This was only a couple of years after the Leafs upset the Isles in the playoffs, so before this series, Leafs owner Harold Ballard said the Isles were "Chumps, not champs", which is why the Isles laid it so heavy on the Leafs. The most one sided series I ever saw.
Wow!! barry melrose footage! anyone ever see the open ice hit he laid on gretzky when he played on the Jets? gretzky was out cold. had his head down. never saw old Barry shortly after that. What a great and legal hit! Would love tio see again
@Love4SK Isles sold out every playoff game back then and it wasn't easy to get a regular season ticket either. Check your facts. That "dump" of an arena has seen four more cup winners than Maple Leaf Gardens has seen since the last time Hubert Humphrey was a serious presidential contender.
@mrceebees14 minor correction, Leafs lost that '81 series by scores of 9-2, and 5-1 at Nassau Coliseum, and then lost the 3rd game at home in Maple Leaf Gardens 6-1 to get swept 3-straight. Total goals were 20-4 for the Islanders. Your scores made the Leafs look worse defensively, but also made their offense or the Isles D look worse by giving the Leafs 5 goals for that series even though they just had 4..lol
20 years ago when I lived in NJ Garry would frequently go to Mennen Arena and play in the pick up games. Nicest guy you'd ever meet. Very down to earth. I was a goalie and hated facing him. He'd skate in at will and sent the slowest, easiest to stop shot that he would perfectly place in any part of the net behind me! Frustrating! He was just toying with me! :-)~ Would have hated to face his slap shot!
Howatt always scared me when I watched him as a kid. He seemed like some pyscho biker dude that would be in jail for murder if he wasnt playing hockey.
busterbudd44 - when I was a kid I saw Saleski tune up Gilles, and I've seen Shultzie end up on top of Nystrom (though there weren't a lotta tags in that one).
So with the Barry thing - I had to keep on reminding myself that IT WAS THE 70's, which was why I couldn't spot a mullet anywhere.
no, you certainly DIDNT see that big nosed clown, saleski tune up gilles and you certainly didn't see schultz "end up on top of nystrom" LOL have another drink buddy you're either drunk or dreamin...
@bustballz You took the words out of my mouth..Saleski did not have the coordination to beat his own shadow let alone take Gillies. To believe that, he must of heard the audio announcing of that fight on a Flyers radio broadcast.

Good to see Melrose with normal looking hair--unlike the freaky, greasy shit he has now.

When did Gillies ever fight Saleski?????? And when did Schultz fight Nystrom?????
Those fights never happened. Saleski would never have beaten Gillies. Bird was a horrible fighter...just horrible.
Nice try.
