The low level of culture in the Middle East shows the lingering effects of the utter destruction wrought by the invasions of the Monghols 800 years ago. They destroyed libraries and other centres of culture, but also destroyed the agricultural irrigation system upon which their food supplies depended. You should know why the Ottoman Empire was doomed to fall: When the West discovered new trade routes to the Far East and colonized the so called "New World" and Sub-Saharan Africa, the muslim world was inevitably more expensive to trade with. So it was actually the economy that led to the muslim world's inevitable downfall. Not religion. Not politics.

Muslim societies are backward also because of the rules that oppose the Quran. In it, stoning is not a punihsment for any crime, homosexuality is discouraged, but not criminalized, a woman truly guilty of adultery cannot be punished at all when protesting innocence 5 times, let alone stoned. 24:1-10. Science is encouraged in the Quran.

Being a Muslim I have no problem people thrashing Islam. That is certainly their right. But they should thrash it it for the right reasons.

@ISMASHYOUBRO Read the Quran. Stoning is not it it for any crime, nor are many of the punishments implemented today in the 3 Islamic countries. I'd call them anti-Quranic countries.

Anti-Quranic hadith and policies are the cancer of Muslim societies and one of the reasons for the retardation of Muslim societies.

If Muslims ditched anti-Quranic hadith and truly implemented the Quran, they would be an advanced, economically progressive society.

@beameout Do you forget the fact that these 'anti-Quranic' hadith are indeed Sahih hadith? Have you read the story of the women admitted to have committed zina resulting in her pregnancy? She then asked the Prophet if the baby be safe and asked for her punishment. She was allowed to give the baby a safe birth and was then stoned.

You don't just dismiss hadith saying there 'anti-Quranic'.

And the cancer of those Muslim societies are the people in them and the cultures prevalent there.
