I've been at Al Udaid for few months in 2006... Guys, you really know how to fight a war in style! :) I was working for the company involved in the work for expanding the base, great place, great colleagues an a good liason officer from the AF unit... A7?
in my freshman year of AF JROTC, i sat jump seat in the cockpit on landing. it was fun. im hoping to get the boom operator position when i go air force
If you want to be a pilot, I don't recommend the recruiter. He'll sweet talk you into enlisting and then maybe 5 years later when you learn the truth, you can cross over. You have to be an officer to be a pilot. That requires a bachelor's degree and a commission... either the AF Academy, ROTC, or OTS. You can go active duty, guard, or reserves.
Just the boom operator. Pilots and navigators (for those few remaining planes that have them) are officers. Other enlisted aircrew jobs on other planes include load masters, flight engineers, sensor operators, etc.
Personally, that looks like a fun job. Currently, I'm hoping to go that route as a boom Op apprentice. I'm brushing up on my math and doing about an hour of cardio a day, watching my eat.
Also, if for some reason you get DQ'd from flight duty, then being a crew chief is the next best thing. We go with the bird every time it goes somewhere and unlike a pilot in the heavy world, my name is on the side of my bird.
i got to go in one of those in real life. i got to use the yoke and use the throttles but the engines were off and we were parked. it was a field trip :)
I love working on these tanks! BOOM suckers! Boeing San Antonio will keep them in the air and our boys in the fight!USA will take your best shot........
I have this on CD too from that deployment. I'm the one tanking the AWACS at the 1:00 mark. I'm a C5 Engineer now. I miss doing AR but I don't miss the Deid or flying around in circles for hours on end.
I remember getting this off the morale drive at the Deid when I was there at the end of '04! I always wondered who had made it, too. BTW I'm a crew chief from Fairchild...

Long road but hopefully it'll be worth it.

Sorry... Yeah, I did the Deid 4 times... in my first year as a co! I remember putting it on the drive there, but it was about 700MB at the time.
