@kozmon0t The purpose is to train pilots from the U.S., NATO and other allied countries for real combat situations. This includes the use of "enemy" hardware and live ammunition for bombing exercises within the Nevada Test and Training Range. The "wheelie" creates more drag and slows the aircraft even more.
When NASA first started sending up astronauts, they quickly discovered the ballpoint pens would not work in zero gravity. To combat the problem, NASA scientists spent a decade and $12 Billion to develop a pen that writes in zero gravity, upside down, underwater, on almost any surface including glass and at temperatures ranging from below freezing to 300C.

@kongunatusingam but you forget the second part of the history, americans patented and mass produced that pen, made a worldwide marketing campaing and sold millions around the world, which gave them a lot of profits, and with those profits they keep financing their Space and Military research. Russia keeps manufacturing pencils.
Oh god. One type of fighter to rule against the USAF. Right. Happy for your pride and all. But get real. Sometimes you wish these people were actually in avionics before they spoke. I guess in the end it's good for us.
Everytime Russians and India do something it comes out as success. Russians master engineering and India put in electronics. Combine it with outstanding pilots and you are ready to own USAF and RAF.
@thomaspruzina, The Indian AF boys won't have this kind of success against the Navy's F-14D, with 100-miles -range Phenix missile system. The Tomcatters also knew how to play dirty without AWAC. Too bad, the Tomcats are no more.
@KATAERO Phonix AIM-54 is 50 years old long time outdated missile. Russians do have R-27 with similar range (180km) and it was proven useless against agile fighters or fast mig-25s in Eritrean-Ethiopian war. Even USAF know that so they focus on short range, agile missiles (~20mil range) or longer range AMRAAM (expensive but very efffective and agile). Russian counterpart to AMRAAM is R-77.
@thomaspruzina, well, the Phoenix missiles is still lethal to this day. Once it turns on its homing radar & closing in at Mach 3.5, unloading all the way from 80,000 ft, its target will has little time to react. Once missile warning system begins to sound an alert, it's over.
I heard the Russians came up with their own Phoenixski, but the Tomcat, esp, the latest D-model, is as good as SU-30, range/payload, endurance, agility, plus it can operate from carrier in the middle of the ocean.
@KATAERO Tomcat is gone for 4 years already and I believe it couldn't outperform Su-30MK in just about anyway. Hard to say whether Phoenix missiles are lethal on modern battlefield, but truth is that for almost 50 years of their existence they did very little amount of confirmed hits..
@thomaspruzina, the early Tomcat was kind of underpowered, but with the D-model, Super Tomcat, it is as good as anything else except the Raptors. It could dash out 120 miles & remained on station for several hrs. US Navy found out it's also an excellent bombing platform, with good range/payload. It flew low-level recon in Golf Wars & was shot at so many times with everything Saddam had but without success. It earned a title of fastest jet at sea level.
@thomaspruzina, (con) It's too bad that Super Tomcat & Su-30 never met in exercise. The Russians had such high regard for F-14/Phoenix combo, that they'd never tried anything foolish. I can't say enough about US Navy's fighter pilots for their cunning, resourcefulness & yes, they know how to play dirty, very dirty.
Su-30 has an advantage of being a much newer design but I heard it's a nightmare to maintain it, requiring so many man hrs for each hr of flight time.
@thomaspruzina, (con) Have the Russians master HOTAS yet? I hope they have, otherwise, it will be such a shame to match an aerodynamic masterpiece with prehistoric cockpit design. It is also a beautiful jet to look at in the air.
Mig-35 lacks Stealth capability & still pretty short legged after all that extra fuel load. There so much room on the tiny airframe you can jam extra stuffs in before thrust & wing loading begin to go to hell. F-16 has the same problem being that small, requiring more powerful engine & bigger wings.
We still don't know much about the new Sukhoi's Raptorski or how well Stealth & agility are married, while the Raptor's is well known.
I hope the Russians are able to master HOTAS by now.
@KATAERO Good point, we can only see how this pans out. The Russians have a history of making some pretty damn beautiful birds but they have not been as technologically advanced as western aircraft. It should be interesting.
@thomaspruzina, on the 1stcomment, I meant to say "250 miles & remain on station, not "120 miles & remain on station."
I heard that the Su-30 engines have thirsty appetite & rather shorter TBO, compared with the western standard. Also, it lacks digital fuel control system, otherwise, its range could be much extended. I saw one of them ran out of fuel in the middle of the flight demonstration in Poland, crashed & killing its pilots. It's rare to have both engines quitted cold like that.
@thomaspruzina, (con) Of course, the Raptors made everything else obsolete, at least, until someone can find a way to defeat its Stealth capability. However, its agility is as deadly as its Stealth feature. The only question is how many Raptors the US could afford to build & operate them, given the state of the US Economy right now.
@bfett66 yeah u raped this country of its natural wealth! u cant be saying this..u owe us money & more....alos responsible for death of thoudans because of ur oppression...more diresclt the cause of bengal famine also called massacre bcuz of redirecting grains 2the WW2 fronts caused 4 million deaths u cunt! i dont u learn such things in school..u watch wat u say!go learn more about the famine...u owe us more billions.keep it coming!till we we had enough.colonial buffons talk abt charity!lol

@azandhind4eva How easily your forget that Sadam possessed the fourth largest military in the world. And most of the pilots in his air force were battle hardened vets. But hey, lets just forget about that. And the fact is insurgents hide within the civilian populous by choice. And its okay that they plant IEDs in civilian towns. After all, they're trying to kill the troops. And because the US troops are forced to pursue them into towns that means the US troops are hiding. Get real jackass.
@AeroSharkTech by choice?its their country.they cant hide in their country?AMERICANs need 2 get real.cause ur the jackasses.im not saying US troops r hiding!u misinterpreted me.isaid 'can' we assume theyr using civilan cover.not saying they r!its cat & mouse game, one hides other chases.militias r small.both move around in society.militias got2 hide.just like US militias did against the british.they dont operate openly.so U get real.most ppl in iraq oppose US occupation.Iraqi frnds told me!
@AeroSharkTech militias hide in forests & also within society in this cause cause its a desert.in afghanistan in the hills.u dont even seem 2 understand wat purpose of militias are.they dont move freely in in open challegning the big/better armed armies.so it shows ur arguing just 4rm US perspecitve cause ur nations in Iraq.many in USA now oppose this war.all these wars 2 bring democracy wer always a sham.so u can bask in ur ingonorance.we'l c wer the US gets in some time!end of topic.
@azandhind4eva Pussy, I've been to Afghanistan twice. I've lived mother fucking Afghanistan. Don't try to tell me what the fuck goes on in combat. Cowards like you always have a lot to say, but don't have the balls to back it up. If you hate the US so fucking much man up and join your towelhead buddies in the fight and prove yourself. Then and only then will what you think you know about war and the middle east mean anything. Until then SHUT THE FUCK UP. From the USMC with love.
Brilliant machine only lower to the f22. It should considered at the SU35 .. clearly far better than the ordinary su30. Russian hardware with Indian, French avionics!
Pitty. Indians give a possibility to americans learn more and more about the Russian planes by taking part in these exercises. I hope they won't be stupid enough to demonstrate Indian version of PAK FA. But who knows.
@BorshCaen ATM Eastern designs trail behind western tech, nothing to hide really, accept perhaps tactics which in this case favors the Indians in that sense.
@adobo777 not at a single time did US have a correct asumption about the state of Soviet/Russian technology. They have a habit of constantly either under- or overestimating (the number of T-72 vs T-55, and MiG-25 being some examples respectevly).
@code123ns That's a true statement perhaps during cold war (60s-70s) back when Soviet Russia was a superpower, not so today. The United States' technological advantage over Russia specially in avionics is quite difficult to deny.
@thuga101 Not even close dude. The Russians didn't use TV until the Su-37 in 1996. By then we had already tested it on 9 different aircraft starting with the HIMAT in 1972. We put TV and canards on the F-15 ACTIVE back in 1988. We put thrust vectoring on the F-18HARV, F-16VISTA, F-15ACTIVE, and the X-31, just to name a few. And keep in mind the F-22 was the first combat aircraft to use thrust vectoring. It first flew in 1990. The Su-37 never entered service and only two were made. Peace
@strizhi I would guess that it depends on the individual pilots, Some guys are really good, some are fair etc. I saw in a documentary once that for a few years the best TOP GUN pilot was a CANADIAN in a CAF-18!!! So anything is possible I guess.
@lst1195 You're 100% correct. A plane is as good as the pilot same goes for anything. You can train a pilot with more hours and brag about it but there are those with lesser hours and are far superior. Just look at the Russians. They have less hours per year but come out to be one of the best in the world. Flying has to be in your blood not forced. Push your plane to the limit and wonders happen.
@strizhi Probably not because Red Flag is not a competition just training the pilots to learn how to cope with the disorganisation and surprise of warfare. Pilots who have survived their first 10 combat missions have a much higher chance of surviving in their whole career. Red flag was designed to give that first 10 missions. Nothing about competition, because the playing ground was never intended to be fair, it was intended to show pilots what real warfare is going to be like.
@1ohtaf1 Ok thanks for the info...I can tell you this though, the Su-30 MKI sure showed its true colors. Tallies were stil taken whether competition or not and the Indian media claimed it came out on top. It doesn't matter, as long as they learned a few things and taught us too thats what matters. Trade of knowledge is the most powerful weapon.
@strizhi I do not see why people are comparing the planes because you will not be able to get any accurate results from it. If the other countries were flying Sukois and the indians were flying F15s the results would be exactly the same. The plane has nothing to do with it because it was designed to be an uneven playing field from the beginning.
@1ohtaf1 I was a tanker in the army and planes and tanks the same as well as the pilot and driver make all the difference reguardless of playing fields. I'm assuming you weren't totally serious? This was staged for war and pilots were at the mercy of their own choices. Those planes they flew have certain upgraded characters that others don't. Su-30 is a faster more powerful jet with bigger armament and better maneuverability then an F-15, put a good pilot and you have a kill on every mission.
@strizhi Whats your point? Mine is that alot of beginning pilots who first attend red flag wants to prove themself and get as much kills as possible and think their plane is the best. But when the are doing the missions they realise that is is not about that, it is about working together and seeing through the fog of real combat. Will not make a difference the planes if you switch them around in red flag. F18s and F1s shot down F15s in red flag and vice versa. It has NOTHING to do with the plane
@strizhi Yes. But thats ok. We are friendly countries. There are several exercises happening between US and India these days because we foresee future scenarios where we have to fight China or Pakistan together. In the 40 years after independance and before India opened the economy, everyone learned to do more with less and found ingenious ways. So the pilots who trained with less facilities and luxury performed better.
@strizhi, yes, Aviation Week & Space Tech reported this bunch of Indian AF boys did track & launch missiles before our Eagle boys did in BVR air combat exercise without helps from AWAC. However, our boys did catch up with them real quick & came out slightly ahead at the end of the exercise. They were initially surprised by the superb quality of the Indian pilots. At the end, it was a good wake-up call for them proving the value of dissimilar air combat training. Kudos to Indian AF!
@bbender1986 Well DUH LMAO - I was with 81st I know first hand. I was curious 7 months ago bout it. Turns out they did pretty good but our pilots stil get more hours and have far more experience.
@strizhi That was in 2004 exercises jet-fighters in their factory capabilities. The Su-Israeli systems own us showing superior aircraft. Im just wandered how Su-russian systems can kick us. In 2008 we own them due to IAF fratricides during exercises. We use AWACS but IAF planes cant because their are Russian AWACS only and noob IAF pilots too.
@xtasytube This is not true. The IAF lost every 1v1 engagement for three days straight. 1v1 did not involve BVR and were restricted to guns only. The F-15Cs were carrying centerline tanks and 4 missiles whereas the Su-30s were flying clean. Only three InAF pilots participated in the 1v1s because they were the most experienced and were equal TFO as the F-15 pilots. In 2004 the InAF were flying 3v1 and the F-15s were restricted from BVR. Get your story straight.
@AeroSharkTech >"The F-15Cs were carrying centerline tanks and 4 missiles"
Excuse me, but these F-15Cs haven't been allowed to mount tanks on their centerline for years now. Too much stress on the airframe under G-loads. They always fly with two tanks on the inboard stations these days. I made that observation while I was at Nellis for 3 years, including during this Red Flag.
@RingSight91 Okay, I guess Col. Terrance Fornhof (aggressor squadron leader of that exercise) doesn't know what he's talking about. And yes, the F-15s still do carry centerline tanks. They also can carry several weapons on their centerline such as up to 2 to 4 GBU-39s. Also T-6Bs are not trainers, they are ALCA. And name one squadron that operates T-36s. For an Air Force guy you sure know very little about the equipment you supposedly operate. Nice try though.
@AeroSharkTech Not one F-15C with the tail flash of WA on it carries centerline tanks and that's by Nellis AFB regulation as stated in 57th Wing publications. Don't lecture me about GBUs on those birds what would Aggressors be doing armed with bombs numbnuts?! Their job is to simulate Flankers you wanker.
@RingSight91 You are FUCKING DENSE. I didn't say, "the aggressors were carrying bombs on their centerline tanks" you fucking clown. I was responding to your comment stating that F-15Cs in general would not carry anything on their centerline hard point due to g loading. I took that silly comment of yours and wiped my ass with it when I told you that not only could they carry tanks, but bombs as well. Pay fucking attention to detail dipshit!! I know the F-15s fucking role in DAT.
@AeroSharkTech Second. Col. Fornhof stated in his debrief that the aircraft in his four aircraft flight were carrying centerline tanks. I wonder who I should believe here. The the man who was leading the Aggressors against the InAF...or some youtube scholar with a masters in talking out of his ass and then forgetting his own comments? Hmmm...that's a tough one. Either they broke your sacred "Nellis AFB regulation", or you're just another youtube assclown. That's a tough one too.
@AeroSharkTech >"The the man who was leading the Aggressors against the InAF"
You've got your effing "Aggressors" all mixed-up. Unless it's an F-15C painted in Kola Peninsula camouflage with a WA tailflash and its pilot reports to the 65 AGRS, it is NOT a USAF Aggressor unit. Last time I checked that squadron NEVER went to Cope India as they DID NOT EXIST at the time.
This is a Red Flag 2008 video not Cope India 2004, learn to stay on point.
@RingSight91 I wasn't talking about Cope numbnuts. Col. Fornhof lead the flight of F-15s against the InAF in 2008. He gave a written debrief of the 1v1 exercises they participated in over a three day period. He also gave a quick debrief within three hours of the final Red Flag 2008 exercises. This was recorded and can be seen on youtube, although it is not as detailed as the written one. He clearly stated he did not fly in Cope 2004, although he did compare the results to his in 2008.
@AeroSharkTech I don't know who the fuck is this "Col. Fornhof" you keep prattling about as the "aggressor squadron leader of that exercise" is, but there was only ONE 65th Aggressor Squadron COMMANDER (65 AGRS/CC) flying F-15s in Nellis AFB during Red Flag 08-4 and that was Lt. Col. Thomas Bouley (RIP)! Guess what, he couldn't have given a "debrief" after it all because he DIED in the middle of it on Jul 30 in an F-15D.
@RingSight91 I never said Col. Fornhof was the commander of the 56th dumbass. You know so much about Nelles but you don't know Fornhof? WTF? He was the Director of R&T at the USAF Warfare Center at Nellis that year. And part of his R&T duties was to lead a group of F-15Cs against the InAF Su-30s and record and contrast the data with exercises his wing had conducted against the F-22. You don't know shit. I'm fucking sick of you. If you want the last word then have it. Laterz pussy.
@AeroSharkTech Damn you're getting spazmatic lol. Getting your 5s and 6s switched in your hurry to bitch back? Lemme pull-out my Nellis phone directory and see if there's anything like an "R&T" office below USAFWC. Ummm, Nope!
All you know is what you supposedly read about. What I know is what I saw day in and day out. Eagles coming and going. Always with TWO tanks.
@RingSight91 R&T=Requirements and Training. Now go fuck off. There is no way on earth somebody who has such a hard time paying attention to detail and reading between the lines is in the Air Force. Go back to playing your video games poser. Why don't you just look up Terrance Fornhof on youtube and learn a little something about reality. In the mean time, go fuck off somewhere.
@AeroSharkTech >"and reading between the lines is in the Air Force"
No, posers like you like to "read between the lines". Airmen know to stay within the lines, like in Technical Orders and AF publications. I know about Requirements and I know about Training. There's still not this fictitious R&T department of which you think you know of. Give me its ORG/OFC symbol if you're so clued-in or GTFO.
@RingSight91 Better yet, look at the bottom of this page. Watch the video titled, "Indian Anger Grows Over Offensive USAF Comments. This will help you get a clue.
@AeroSharkTech LOL, getting your information from Indian TV, are we now? So, Fornhoff is both the DO for some sort of R&T office at the USAFWC, AND he's also in the NV ANG? So is he Guard or is he Active Duty as of that video? Last time I checked, you can't be Guard and serve as the DO of an Active Duty billet.
Yeah I smell something from you and it rhymes with bull pit.
@RingSight91 OMG. Dude, you are an ass clown. I didn't get my information from that Indian video. I told you days ago that both his written and video debriefs were released to the public, you forgetful jackass. I just happened to see the thumbnail on the page and figured it would help your clueless ass figure out who one of the top officials involved in the 2008 Red Flag was, beings that you seem to know so little about the officers in command of your own air base. Now, please fuck off.
@AeroSharkTech Just because he's a Colonel (supposedly) doesn't mean he was "in command" of anything in Nellis AFB. It's the freaking Air Force where officers are abundance not the Army! And I'm telling you, nobody who was "in charge" of anything in Red Flag would do that sort of "debrief" let alone let themselves be filmed talking like that.
All you came-upon and know of is second-hand trash. Congratulations on your supposed research.
@AeroSharkTech F-15Cs in general DO NOT in FACT carry centerline tanks TODAY regardless of their original design capability and that is by Command Decision. That is the REALITY so how is that a "silly comment"? The damned birds are OLD so the top brass don't want their airframes to get stressed any more than absolutely necessary. And speaking of wiping asses with silly comments, how about I wipe mine with yours on that GBU-39 silliness? SDB delivery is an E-model mission, MORON!
@RingSight91 Yep, once again, Col. Fornhof doesn't know anything about the aircraft he flies. That's sad to see. Oh, and 167 of the AIS flight tests with the GBU-39 were performed by an F-15C (SN 30-0143) of the 46th Test Wing, based at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. The reason for this is because the pentagon is considering hardwiring over 200 F-15Cs (by 2015) with TAS mission capability in effort to make up for the pushbacks of the F-35. You should catch up on modern times, asshole.
@RingSight91 And another thing. You're putting the implication on "TODAY". As if its a new thing. So it would have to have been with the last 2 years as Fornhof's debrief was in 2008, and 2009. Think back and remember that your original comment stated that Eagles haven 't carried centerline "for YEARS". Also, since 1998, Boeing put out a SB that states they must undergo an AF overhaul every 500 FH, which the USAF has kept up. So much for getting overstressed.
@AeroSharkTech >"You're putting the implication on "TODAY". As if its a new thing."
I was at Nellis from 2005 to 2008, and I left shortly after the time of this video. Three years. Always F-15s with no centerline tanks in favor of two inboard ones. Happy now?
>"So much for getting overstressed."
In November 2007 a Missouri ANG F-15C suffered catastrophic longeron failure during a 3G turn. Forward section snapped-off. Pilot ejected. Aircraft lost. Feel stupid yet?
@strizhi False, India lost every 1v1 against the F-15s for three days in a row. Plus they could not meet roll/TO minimums because their engines were getting FODed out.
@strizhi The irony is most Su30MKI pilots had only recently transitioned from the MiG21; a quantum leap in new, but as yet not fully-learned, performance capabilities. Simply put, the Indian pilots in the Su30MKI were about as green as you could get at flying this machine and yet were "still" a force to be reckoned with in the sky. "Once they learn how to pilot the airplane, the Indians will be able to out-perform the F15 and F16 on a consistent basis" - Col. Terrence Fornof (USAF F15 pilot).
@l2el3eLLi0uS That's not irony. And this whole exercise is for rookies to practice simulated combat on a large scale with other allied forces. That's why I always laugh when random people think its a contest and go "India owned US" its like.. um India was on same team as other US jets plus all the awacs and stuff.. the aggressors are US too but its not one country vs another..
@azandhind4eva lol you are the type of person I am talking about exactly. We send new pilots in red flag to get practice not veterans so we can brag about "winning" our own damn exercise.
@OlderG0ds theres a winner in everything.not sayin we got a rolling sheild or trophy.certainly not sending only veterans.there are veterans who travelthese planes r not cheap.they are front line aircraft ''rookies'' cant have all the responsiblty!in a dogfight someone wins.doesnt have to be officially recognised!its not like in training or in our schools we dont get acknowlegemnts.hope our nations get to fight each other id like to see ur imperilist ass whopped!...u & ur ''lol''!

@azandhind4eva >"No one needs 6yrs 2 learn 2 ''pilot an airplane''..naive as 1 can get"
Who says it takes that long to "learn" ONE airplane?
USAF crews take 6 years to be COMBAT QUALIFIED in at least THREE different aircraft, each progressively more complex than the other. From the prop-driven AT-6B and jet-driven T-36A Trainers, to their Falcons or Eagles and even the Raptor if need be. 6 years = about 3 airplanes. What's wrong with that?
@azandhind4eva Hey have you ever been to Iraq or Afghanistan? Consider this. When we drop bombs our goal is to hit the combatants. When were dropping them in the battlefields were hit nothing but tanks and military vehicles. The reason civilians get bombed is because those coward insurgents like to post up peoples' homes and use the civilians as human shields. Plus they love to detonate high explosive IEDs in the middle of the street. You want to blame somebody for that, blame them.
@AeroSharkTech drones killed children.ppl gather 4 meetings.its easy for u 2 consider all cases as extremists using ppl as humanshield.not saying it doesnt happen!.wat is happening as a result of war is unacceptble.100000 dead.mili.chopper killed those reuters crew.anygathering ukill them?US troops use the streets used by ppl,so can it b said,US patrols use civilians shields when they go past in armoured convoys?LEDs target US troops& ppl die.US target miltants meeting ppl & ppl die here2!
Bush created deficit which we cant even afford to have more f22 and wasted all the money in iraq without any positive results. With Bush your more likely to go broke. Well we already are with 8 years of him in service.
Su's are my favorite looking fighters. I wish US would purchase a dozen of the advanced versions just to test out and train our pilots to fly against it. I wonder why they don't do it? they flew in coupe de india exercise and lost to the indian Flankers, but I heard that day American F-15's were not allowed to use their BVR missles. Anyone knows any thing about that exercise?
Correct and also at the Indian's request the Americans flew outnumbered 3:1 against the Indians planes including SU-30, which is a given those should win against F-16 lol
can't wait for the republicans to take over and build another 100 or so of the f-22. we need them. obama is assuming we'll not need them in 10-20 years in the future. that's the mistake we made in the past and almost cost us pearl harbor
The strengh of the Su- amd MiG- planes are not only in their design, but the fact that they use HMS / AA-11 combination. When German airforce went up against ex- East German MiG-29 west did a big doo doo... :o)
do all pilots at red flag compete to see who can do the best landing with the most wheelie time?
kozmon0t 2 months ago
@kozmon0t The purpose is to train pilots from the U.S., NATO and other allied countries for real combat situations. This includes the use of "enemy" hardware and live ammunition for bombing exercises within the Nevada Test and Training Range. The "wheelie" creates more drag and slows the aircraft even more.

a small story i heared long back..
Subject: NASA's Zero Gravity Pen

Everytime Russians and India do something it comes out as success. Russians master engineering and India put in electronics. Combine it with outstanding pilots and you are ready to own USAF and RAF.
thomaspruzina 1 year ago 16
@thomaspruzina, The Indian AF boys won't have this kind of success against the Navy's F-14D, with 100-miles -range Phenix missile system. The Tomcatters also knew how to play dirty without AWAC. Too bad, the Tomcats are no more.
KATAERO 1 year ago
@KATAERO Phonix AIM-54 is 50 years old long time outdated missile. Russians do have R-27 with similar range (180km) and it was proven useless against agile fighters or fast mig-25s in Eritrean-Ethiopian war. Even USAF know that so they focus on short range, agile missiles (~20mil range) or longer range AMRAAM (expensive but very efffective and agile). Russian counterpart to AMRAAM is R-77.
thomaspruzina 1 year ago
@thomaspruzina, well, the Phoenix missiles is still lethal to this day. Once it turns on its homing radar & closing in at Mach 3.5, unloading all the way from 80,000 ft, its target will has little time to react. Once missile warning system begins to sound an alert, it's over.
I heard the Russians came up with their own Phoenixski, but the Tomcat, esp, the latest D-model, is as good as SU-30, range/payload, endurance, agility, plus it can operate from carrier in the middle of the ocean.
KATAERO 1 year ago
@KATAERO Tomcat is gone for 4 years already and I believe it couldn't outperform Su-30MK in just about anyway. Hard to say whether Phoenix missiles are lethal on modern battlefield, but truth is that for almost 50 years of their existence they did very little amount of confirmed hits..
thomaspruzina 1 year ago
@thomaspruzina, the early Tomcat was kind of underpowered, but with the D-model, Super Tomcat, it is as good as anything else except the Raptors. It could dash out 120 miles & remained on station for several hrs. US Navy found out it's also an excellent bombing platform, with good range/payload. It flew low-level recon in Golf Wars & was shot at so many times with everything Saddam had but without success. It earned a title of fastest jet at sea level.
KATAERO 1 year ago
@thomaspruzina, (con) It's too bad that Super Tomcat & Su-30 never met in exercise. The Russians had such high regard for F-14/Phoenix combo, that they'd never tried anything foolish. I can't say enough about US Navy's fighter pilots for their cunning, resourcefulness & yes, they know how to play dirty, very dirty.
Su-30 has an advantage of being a much newer design but I heard it's a nightmare to maintain it, requiring so many man hrs for each hr of flight time.
KATAERO 1 year ago
@thomaspruzina, (con) Have the Russians master HOTAS yet? I hope they have, otherwise, it will be such a shame to match an aerodynamic masterpiece with prehistoric cockpit design. It is also a beautiful jet to look at in the air.
Nice chatting with you.
KATAERO 1 year ago
@KATAERO The only planes that I know of that are pretty damn close or already have is the Mig-35 and the new Sukhoi PAK fifth generation prototype.
oxyman10 1 year ago
Mig-35 lacks Stealth capability & still pretty short legged after all that extra fuel load. There so much room on the tiny airframe you can jam extra stuffs in before thrust & wing loading begin to go to hell. F-16 has the same problem being that small, requiring more powerful engine & bigger wings.
We still don't know much about the new Sukhoi's Raptorski or how well Stealth & agility are married, while the Raptor's is well known.
I hope the Russians are able to master HOTAS by now.
KATAERO 1 year ago
@KATAERO Good point, we can only see how this pans out. The Russians have a history of making some pretty damn beautiful birds but they have not been as technologically advanced as western aircraft. It should be interesting.
oxyman10 1 year ago
@thomaspruzina, on the 1stcomment, I meant to say "250 miles & remain on station, not "120 miles & remain on station."
I heard that the Su-30 engines have thirsty appetite & rather shorter TBO, compared with the western standard. Also, it lacks digital fuel control system, otherwise, its range could be much extended. I saw one of them ran out of fuel in the middle of the flight demonstration in Poland, crashed & killing its pilots. It's rare to have both engines quitted cold like that.
KATAERO 1 year ago
@thomaspruzina, (con) Of course, the Raptors made everything else obsolete, at least, until someone can find a way to defeat its Stealth capability. However, its agility is as deadly as its Stealth feature. The only question is how many Raptors the US could afford to build & operate them, given the state of the US Economy right now.
Nice chatting with you.
God Bless

So anything is possible I guess.
lst1195 1 year ago
@lst1195 You're 100% correct. A plane is as good as the pilot same goes for anything. You can train a pilot with more hours and brag about it but there are those with lesser hours and are far superior. Just look at the Russians. They have less hours per year but come out to be one of the best in the world. Flying has to be in your blood not forced. Push your plane to the limit and wonders happen.
strizhi 1 year ago
@strizhi Probably not because Red Flag is not a competition just training the pilots to learn how to cope with the disorganisation and surprise of warfare. Pilots who have survived their first 10 combat missions have a much higher chance of surviving in their whole career. Red flag was designed to give that first 10 missions. Nothing about competition, because the playing ground was never intended to be fair, it was intended to show pilots what real warfare is going to be like.
1ohtaf1 1 year ago
@1ohtaf1 Ok thanks for the info...I can tell you this though, the Su-30 MKI sure showed its true colors. Tallies were stil taken whether competition or not and the Indian media claimed it came out on top. It doesn't matter, as long as they learned a few things and taught us too thats what matters. Trade of knowledge is the most powerful weapon.
strizhi 1 year ago
@strizhi I do not see why people are comparing the planes because you will not be able to get any accurate results from it. If the other countries were flying Sukois and the indians were flying F15s the results would be exactly the same. The plane has nothing to do with it because it was designed to be an uneven playing field from the beginning.
1ohtaf1 1 year ago
@1ohtaf1 I was a tanker in the army and planes and tanks the same as well as the pilot and driver make all the difference reguardless of playing fields. I'm assuming you weren't totally serious? This was staged for war and pilots were at the mercy of their own choices. Those planes they flew have certain upgraded characters that others don't. Su-30 is a faster more powerful jet with bigger armament and better maneuverability then an F-15, put a good pilot and you have a kill on every mission.
strizhi 1 year ago
@strizhi Whats your point? Mine is that alot of beginning pilots who first attend red flag wants to prove themself and get as much kills as possible and think their plane is the best. But when the are doing the missions they realise that is is not about that, it is about working together and seeing through the fog of real combat. Will not make a difference the planes if you switch them around in red flag. F18s and F1s shot down F15s in red flag and vice versa. It has NOTHING to do with the plane
1ohtaf1 1 year ago
@1ohtaf1 Ahh I see...perhaps I don't know too much about Red Flag. If thats the case then you're right.
strizhi 1 year ago
@strizhi Yes. But thats ok. We are friendly countries. There are several exercises happening between US and India these days because we foresee future scenarios where we have to fight China or Pakistan together. In the 40 years after independance and before India opened the economy, everyone learned to do more with less and found ingenious ways. So the pilots who trained with less facilities and luxury performed better.
donjuan4you 1 year ago
@strizhi, yes, Aviation Week & Space Tech reported this bunch of Indian AF boys did track & launch missiles before our Eagle boys did in BVR air combat exercise without helps from AWAC. However, our boys did catch up with them real quick & came out slightly ahead at the end of the exercise. They were initially surprised by the superb quality of the Indian pilots. At the end, it was a good wake-up call for them proving the value of dissimilar air combat training. Kudos to Indian AF!

xtasytube 1 year ago
@xtasytube Now try that in English - really can't understand you bud.
strizhi 1 year ago

RingSight91 9 months ago
@RingSight91 Okay, I guess Col. Terrance Fornhof (aggressor squadron leader of that exercise) doesn't know what he's talking about. And yes, the F-15s still do carry centerline tanks. They also can carry several weapons on their centerline such as up to 2 to 4 GBU-39s. Also T-6Bs are not trainers, they are ALCA. And name one squadron that operates T-36s. For an Air Force guy you sure know very little about the equipment you supposedly operate. Nice try though.
AeroSharkTech 9 months ago
@AeroSharkTech Not one F-15C with the tail flash of WA on it carries centerline tanks and that's by Nellis AFB regulation as stated in 57th Wing publications. @RingSight91 You are FUCKING DENSE. I didn't say, "the aggressors were carrying bombs on their centerline tanks" you fucking clown. I took that silly comment of yours and wiped my ass with it when I told you that not only could they carry tanks, but bombs as well. Pay fucking attention to detail dipshit!! I know the F-15s fucking role in DAT.
AeroSharkTech 4 months ago
@AeroSharkTech Second. Col. Fornhof stated in his debrief that the aircraft in his four aircraft flight were carrying centerline tanks. I wonder who I should believe here. The the man who was leading the Aggressors against the InAF...or some youtube scholar with a masters in talking out of his ass and then forgetting his own comments? Hmmm...that's a tough one. Either they broke your sacred "Nellis AFB regulation", or you're just another youtube assclown. That's a tough one too.
AeroSharkTech 4 months ago
@AeroSharkTech >"The the man who was leading the Aggressors against the InAF"
You've got your effing "Aggressors" all mixed-up. Unless it's an F-15C painted in Kola Peninsula camouflage with a WA tailflash and its pilot reports to the 65 AGRS, it is NOT a USAF Aggressor unit. Last time I checked that squadron NEVER went to Cope India as they DID NOT EXIST at the time.
This is a Red Flag 2008 video not Cope India 2004, learn to stay on point.
RingSight91 4 months ago
@RingSight91 I wasn't talking about Cope numbnuts. Col. Fornhof lead the flight of F-15s against the InAF in 2008. He gave a written debrief of the 1v1 exercises they participated in over a three day period. He also gave a quick debrief within three hours of the final Red Flag 2008 exercises. This was recorded and can be seen on youtube, although it is not as detailed as the written one. He clearly stated he did not fly in Cope 2004, although he did compare the results to his in 2008.
AeroSharkTech 4 months ago
@AeroSharkTech I don't know who the fuck is this "Col. Fornhof" you keep prattling about as the "aggressor squadron leader of that exercise" is, but there was only ONE 65th Aggressor Squadron COMMANDER (65 AGRS/CC) flying F-15s in Nellis AFB during Red Flag 08-4 and that was Lt. Col. Thomas Bouley (RIP)! Guess what, he couldn't have given a "debrief" after it all because he DIED in the middle of it on Jul 30 in an F-15D.
And they don't carry GBU-39s either so toss off.
RingSight91 4 months ago
@RingSight91 I never said Col. Fornhof was the commander of the 56th dumbass. You know so much about Nelles but you don't know Fornhof? WTF? He was the Director of R&T at the USAF Warfare Center at Nellis that year. And part of his R&T duties was to lead a group of F-15Cs against the InAF Su-30s and record and contrast the data with exercises his wing had conducted against the F-22. You don't know shit. I'm fucking sick of you. If you want the last word then have it. Laterz pussy.

Yeah I smell something from you and it rhymes with bull pit.

@RingSight91 OMG. Dude, you are an ass clown. I didn't get my information from that Indian video. Now, please fuck off.
AeroSharkTech 4 months ago
@AeroSharkTech Just because he's a Colonel (supposedly) doesn't mean he was "in command" of anything in Nellis AFB. It's the freaking Air Force where officers are abundance not the Army! And I'm telling you, nobody who was "in charge" of anything in Red Flag would do that sort of "debrief" let alone let themselves be filmed talking like that.
All you came-upon and know of is second-hand trash. Congratulations on your supposed research.
RingSight91 4 months ago
@AeroSharkTech F-15Cs in general DO NOT in FACT carry centerline tanks TODAY regardless of their original design capability and that is by Command Decision. That is the REALITY so how is that a "silly comment"? The damned birds are OLD so the top brass don't want their airframes to get stressed any more than absolutely necessary. And speaking of wiping asses with silly comments, how about I wipe mine with yours on that GBU-39 silliness? SDB delivery is an E-model mission, MORON!
RingSight91 4 months ago
@RingSight91 Yep, once again, Col. Fornhof doesn't know anything about the aircraft he flies. That's sad to see. Oh, and 167 of the AIS flight tests with the GBU-39 were performed by an F-15C (SN 30-0143) of the 46th Test Wing, based at Eglin Air Force Base, Florida. The reason for this is because the pentagon is considering hardwiring over 200 F-15Cs (by 2015) with TAS mission capability in effort to make up for the pushbacks of the F-35. You should catch up on modern times, asshole.
AeroSharkTech 4 months ago

@AeroSharkTech >"Pay fucking attention to detail dipshit!"
LOL you first!
Re-read please: "F-15Cs haven't been ALLOWED to mount tanks on their centerline for years now."
That's what I said. I didn't say they could not do that BY DESIGN. They can't do that BY MANDATE. It's a damned SAFETY RULE you airhead.

Terrence Fornof (USAF F15 pilot).
l2el3eLLi0uS 10 months ago
@l2el3eLLi0uS That's not irony. And this whole exercise is for rookies to practice simulated combat on a large scale with other allied forces. That's why I always laugh when random people think its a contest and go "India owned US" its like.. um India was on same team as other US jets plus all the awacs and stuff.. the aggressors are US too but its not one country vs another..
OlderG0ds 9 months ago
@OlderG0ds it s certailn no place for rookies!....maybe ur media wud like to put it that way to dispel doubts & reports of us being better...
azandhind4eva 9 months ago
@azandhind4eva lol you are the type of person I am talking about exactly. We send new pilots in red flag to get practice not veterans so we can brag about "winning" our own damn exercise.

azandhind4eva 9 months ago
@azandhind4eva >"No one needs 6yrs 2 learn 2 ''pilot an airplane''..naive as 1 can get"
Who says it takes that long to "learn" ONE airplane?
USAF crews take 6 years to be COMBAT QUALIFIED in at least THREE different aircraft, each progressively more complex than the other. From the prop-driven AT-6B and jet-driven T-36A Trainers, to their Falcons or Eagles and even the Raptor if need be. 6 years = about 3 airplanes. What's wrong with that?
RingSight91 9 months ago
@azandhind4eva Hey have you ever been to Iraq or Afghanistan? Consider this. When we drop bombs our goal is to hit the combatants. When were dropping them in the battlefields were hit nothing but tanks and military vehicles. The reason civilians get bombed is because those coward insurgents like to post up peoples' homes and use the civilians as human shields. Plus they love to detonate high explosive IEDs in the middle of the street. You want to blame somebody for that, blame them.
AeroSharkTech 9 months ago
@AeroSharkTech drones killed children.ppl gather 4 meetings.its easy for u 2 consider all cases as extremists using ppl as humanshield.not saying it doesnt happen!.wat is happening as a result of war is unacceptble.100000 dead.mili.chopper killed those reuters crew.anygathering ukill them?US troops use the streets used by ppl,so can it b said,US patrols use civilians shields when they go past in armoured convoys?LEDs target US troops& ppl die.US target miltants meeting ppl & ppl die here2!

why do they roll with their tail wheels for such a long distance?
boobyboob69 2 years ago
This is called 'aerobraking'. By pitching the nose up the pilots use the additional drag by exposing more of the airfoil to the airflow.
Helochut 2 years ago
Err yes and they slow down because of the additional drag without using brakes and wearing down tires
Helochut 2 years ago
@boobyboob69,
Using air resistance to the body for braking and slowing. Reduces wear and tear of brakes and don't have to replace them sooner. Cost saving.

Bush created deficit which we cant even afford to have more f22 and wasted all the money in iraq without any positive results. With Bush your more likely to go broke. Well we already are with 8 years of him in service.
djsal510 2 years ago
Su's are my favorite looking fighters. I wish US would purchase a dozen of the advanced versions just to test out and train our pilots to fly against it. I wonder why they don't do it? they flew in coupe de india exercise and lost to the indian Flankers, but I heard that day American F-15's were not allowed to use their BVR missles. Anyone knows any thing about that exercise?
Edwooooful 2 years ago
Correct and also at the Indian's request the Americans flew outnumbered 3:1 against the Indians planes including SU-30, which is a given those should win against F-16 lol
OlderG0ds 2 years ago
can't wait for the republicans to take over and build another 100 or so of the f-22. we need them. obama is assuming we'll not need them in 10-20 years in the future. that's the mistake we made in the past and almost cost us pearl harbor

Yup, I am sure..Lol!, It is so easy to lie on the internet, isnt it! Idiot.

The strengh of the Su- amd MiG- planes are not only in their design, but the fact that they use HMS / AA-11 combination. When German airforce went up against ex- East German MiG-29 west did a big doo doo... :o)
