I sang in this choir and I don't even like listening to this piece. It hardly felt like making music as much as making some pathetic attempt to recreate a coronation. We weren't in England, there was no reason to deface Handel's music with contrivance. Poor directing in my opinion.

It was intended to be a celebration of the masses. Since this is sang for coronations, it was supposed to be reminiscent of the commoners rejoicing.

A good intention unfortunately results in mangling of Handel's wonderful anthem.
Not only do the oil drums add anything to the music,the choir singing is so jerky they sound like wind up toys!
As for the timpani it beggars belief.
It might make a nice soundtrack to a Carribean holiday.

Why the bloody hell did they have to give Zadok a Caribbean accent? - Handel would of been very upset, wouldn't he?!
