Hey man, I am thinking about buying an audio interface with the maschine (specifically the ak1) because I am led to believe that an audio interface/soundcard is needed to connect the maschine to an amp. Is this true? Or is there a cheap alternative way to route the maschine through amps or speakers for live performances? I am joining a band and this will hopefully be played live, and I was just wondering if this is the only way to amplify the maschine.

Hey KOM,

you dont need an AK1 to connect Maschine to an amp. You could use the soundcard of your PC or Mac but still i would recommend a good interface like the AK1 because the sound quality and latency will be way better.

@Krazy0ldMan if you want the best interface for the money you can't beat the new Alesis io2, it's $99, 24 bit, great pre's, 2 XLR/2 mic/line/gtr, phantom power, seperate MON or USB mix output, phones out...it's a steal and sounds as good as my Mackie...

Thanks man! So if I wanted to run the maschine software through an amp with the ak1, it would just be maschine via usb to computer, ak1 via usb to computer and ak1 via patchcord to amp?

@SuicideServer Man, good stuff there, do you use your maschine with any hardware via midi, i am wondering can you sequence outboard gear and then also run the effects on the maschine to the outboard gear to mangle the sound etc etc . Im thinking not but would be a nice surprise if you can, the maschine would then be a much cheaper alternative to a nemo, thanx

You can indeed sequence midi gear with maschine and it works pretty well. But you cant use the fx in realtime for incoming audio. You could sample it and then apply the fx or route the audio from your gear into ableton and use the fx there.

Just press the according pad in step mode and keep it pressed, you can then change the values of the selected fx.

@SuicideServer i meant ,  i want to lets say control the verb decay in steps with the pads on maschine i read somewhere on the NI forum saying how to do that Its not in the manual you can jam with the fx like your doing but in perfect increments in steps they said its like sugar bytes fx plugin but better!!

In which way are the computer, audio kontrol and maschine connected? (Is it like maschine to computer by usb and then maschine to audio kontrol by midi or something?) :P

Good choice of gear ;) you connect both via usb, so thats the AK1 via usb to you computer and the maschine via usb. You can also connect both to a good usb hub if you are on a notebook and need to save som free usb ports.

if not this is not a big deal for me, as i am running maschine within Live, so there is always a way to get things done. After all it seems these days, that people are whining if they dont get 10000 feature, instead of making music, i mean in the early days all it needed was a 808 + 303 and people were banging for hours ;)

Hey Pete,

i really love Maschine so far. Its true that there are some features missing, but i didnt expect a full blown DAW. Its the perfect Drum Machine and especially on stage it comes to live. The sound is amazingly phat and you can remix everything while the sequencer is running. Also with 1.1 we can now sequence external gear, so thats fine. There are also mute and solo since the beginning. Timestretch would be killer, but im pretty confident it will be included in a later update,

It all depends on how you do it. Also with the next OS Update of Maschine you will be able to send midi to any other midi device or plugin, so this should make things a lot easier. Right now i use Maschine wihin Ableton and i do all my drum and fx within maschine. The good thing is that you can also control Ableton from Maschine, so in the end i still control everything from one Sequencer :)

i dont think its acutally an issue, cause most of the kits load in like 1 or 2 seconds on my mac, especially the ones i made by myself. But if you use a lot of fx in the kits they might take a few seconds more to load.

i havent heard 1 sound/video on maschine that sounds phatt or good. that' snot maschine's fault - i tested it - sounded great. just that al these vids are some mini sounds like from a 1990 keyboard, and that includes even NI's own demo vids on it. everyon egets caught up in teh features, but misses, that not 1 has made a phatt beat. this one here gets closer to it though. nice !. i ordered on e, i'm here in LA. they say they ship out of some foreign country, germany. na gut, mann wartet eben .!

Are all these sounds coming from the Maschne, did they come with the maschine?

The Drumsounds are taken from the MPC5000 Factory Library and the FX used are all from Maschine. You get around 15.000 Samples with Maschine so there are lots and lots of amazing sounds.
