U can look at Tina's face and tell she didn't want to do this.. at least not this way. especially at 2:40 but of course some bastard made her do it. Not naming any names.
its sad that ike made tina act so slutty... because tina fucking turner has way to much talent and class to be treated like some whore... im a MAN and i feel that way
"CUZ YOU AINT READY TO DIIIIIEEEE!" ~ And some people doubt he made her do this performance? Her face looks all puffy like she just had gotten beat. Sad but she overcame it though.
I used to own this Lp from when they were signed to Liberty records. I like live music better. .... My album was distroyed in 1998 by my ex...I had a wonderful Lp collection that I started as a kid in 1988..until 1998. Darn men...! Some albums were autographed even,,,,well thats life...
Man, this is real hot stuff. We'll never see something alike again. Madonna or Lady Gaga are just so unspontaneous, all calculated. Cartoons of themselves.
Too bad Ike & Tina never actually played at Altamont. the doc. Gimme Shelter includes a rendition of this song at MSG, but even that was a different show.
Anyway, this footage has NOTHING to do with altamont, ike&tina weren't at altamont.
she was not forced she felt this song. Any idiot who thinks different didnt watch her stroke that mic. she was real and genuine. she felt every fuckin note of it. Even Janis would have agreed if she were alive during this performance. Watch her almost orgasm. If you dont feel it your a virghin to sex and music
Definitely SOul To SOul movie ... Ike & Tina sang throughout their What You hear Is What You Get tour in 1971. I saw them here in July 71' here in Philadelphia. I was there too at the Framingham MA country club concert - when they were literally 'dying stars' in the summer 1975. THis IS a definitive Tina performance. The longer vesion is on their Live at Caregie Hall album. Yes - Tina the actress. lol Simply the best!
Seen them in concert in MA at a country club a long time ago when they were not popular. She had black and blue marks on her legs. Knew than and there she was a abused woman even if she didn't at that time. Been there and felt real bad for her. So glad she dumped his ass. She's a great woman and singer who will go down in history on her own.... go Tina.... Your a special kind of Woman....
What I've read in her book I- Tina that Ike cheated on her all the time, even front of her, when she was there seeing what he was doing with other girls. He even beaten her so badly many times, that he even once or more broke her chin on purpose and beating other girl's in the band and outside of the band. He was even mean to his own kids. So that's why I hate that Ike guy. It's good that Tina made it through the years, and running away from him finally. Good Job Tina!
@Beatlesgirl1000 There is a singer named Joshie Jo Armstead, she was famous for a little while. She also starred in the film and broadway musical called "Dont Play Us Cheap" written by Melvin Peebles. Joshie was apart of Ike's etourage at one time. Before Tina. Joshie was his backup singer. I read on Wikipedia that Ike threatened her once with physical violence. She said the threat ws all it took. She left immediately. She didnt wait for him to put his hands on her. She knew he was dangerous.
@Beatlesgirl1000 Ike didn't cheat on Tina. They were never married. They went to Mexico and got a fake wedding certificate. They were friends who slept together occasionally. He never committed to her. Ike admitted slapped her, but he never beat her or broke her chin. Ike may have been violent, but he was a musical genius. Ike is dead. Let it rest.
I was blessed to see Tina Turner live with my dad, when I was younger. She danced her ass off, changed clothing through out the show, all while singing her heart out. Even wearing her fame see through dress. To my young eyes she was the sexiest thing I ever seen live on stage. Truth be told, Tina Turner is the reason why I like older women to this day, lol.~Phurdrick
Ike and Tina at the apex of their career as a team... Jagger and Co. must have looked really, REALLY white-bread to anybody with any taste, after this real kick-you-in-the-chest soul show got finished.
Tina has disavowed this performance, objecting that Ike made her do it... if so, she is one of the greatest actresses, musical or otherwise, in human history.
@tuxguys I think that was her way of saying she was free of Ike, who' been her Svengali for all those years.. I've a feeling, and, please feel free to slap my ears back, if I'm wrong.. I think after Ike, Tina may have been turned off by black men, totally.. If I look at her later vids, I'm nearly convinced the band was all white.. And, I do love her, and, I've heard many of those stories, which I take, wit a proverbial grain of salt..
@tuxguys "Jagger and company looked [implies "sounded"] white-bread?" You should listen to Jagger & Richards doing Robert Johnson's "Love in Vain" from this '69 tour. Otis Redding and Buddy Guy are just two "non-white bread" musicians who cover Stones songs, aside from Tina Turner. These three certainly had taste and obviously didn't consider Mick and Keith white-bread.
Muddy Waters' version of "Let's Spend the Night Together" cuts the Stones' version... anything can be improved.
You make me recall Jagger and the Stones trying to come out and follow James Brown on "The T.A.M.I. Show:" Cuteness and hipness can only carrier you so far, where this music is concerned.
@tuxguys You confirm my point. If the Stones were only cute and hip, then Tina Turner, Otis Redding, Buddy Guy, Muddy Waters, etc. would not have covered their songs or performed with them. As for James Brown, he had been performing since at least 1955 and was a veteran already in 1964. It was the first year the Stones started touring. So, using the 1964 T.A.M.I. show as an example doesn't really prove anything.
@mrShowaddywaddy I say yes, on both of your comments.. Ike did remind me of a pimp, the one slappin' his ho's around.. But, there's no way you can take away what he'd brought to the table.. Sometimes, knowing what went on, can spoil it.. What good is the magic, when you know the secret of the sorcerer..?
@mrShowaddywaddy Tina can look sexual anytime she wants-and even more then this pathetic scene she had to do. IT WAS SO OBVIOUS that the gesture was an imposition, any woman can see it, and no sane woman would go do that on stage specially if the guy that beats her, orders her to do that !
I know the Dscussion of what is better, old or new Music, is growing boring. But this Performance of Tina Turner is unbelievable. No Beyonce, or anyone else will ever reach that class.
so many awesome versions of this Otis Redding song. I wish Hendrix was alive longer, I'm sure that he'd cover this song, with an instrumental bridge and lead vocalls that'd shatter all the other covers. But I guess Ike Turner and his above average guitar playing will do! Lol
