you just create a transparency layer and pull it over it with a video editing program (like after effects or sony vegas)

That's what I guessed... But your buttons didn't become transparent as a side-effect. Strange.

Well, maybe I'm just imagining it :-)

Yeah, this is because the layer is made in photoshop :) or similar program, where you select which part is transparent. So for example he took a screenshot and placed the buttons on a different layer and made the the bar transparent.

well that is how i would do it, not sure if that is what he did.
