I think Dusty was one of the three great female singers of the sixties, the others being Aretha and Dionne, all for different things. Aretha was this amazing force, Dionne had a grace that made her the perfect voice of Bacharach and Dusty was the one who could rip your heart out, but this is a Baby Washington video and there's absolutely nothing wrong with the way she does this song. She brings out the strength of the woman in the song where Dusty brings out the hurt. Both approaches work.
@dp500cat Dusty's version came out earlier, in January of 1969. Nobody puts her in the corner, either. Both singers brought different things to the song, so choosing between them is a question of taste, not which one is better.
@BlackMonk66 I stand corrected, No offence against Dusty intended. She was the finest Blue-Eyed Soul singer we ever produced. I almost prefer her version of Jimmy Radcliffe's 'Long After Tonight Is All Over' and coming from someone on the Northern Soul Scene that is praise indeed - KTF
Oh wow! I'm ashamed to say that this is my first time hearing this version. The very first version I heard was by Nicole Kea (aka Nicole Scherzinger of The Pussycat Dolls) off the 100 First Dates Soundtrack! Baby Washington has an amazing voice!
A great talent.

My favourite version. Dusty's was terrific but this hits the soul-spot! Arrangement beautiful and baby's treatment so sensitive. Great stuff! X

Oh this is so great. It can also be found on "Atlantic Soul" box set that appears at the beginning of this video. That's a great one to get!
