We spend on average $45-50 per week on food. Now I'm gonna take the 50 instead of the 45. Now divide the $50 by seven that brings it down to $9 dollars per day. Now divide that by 4 because that is the number of my household that brings is down to $1.80 cents.

OK, so the girls is looking at the CAFETERIA MENU and saying "I can't get anything for $3!!". Well how about going to a grocery store, buying groceries and cooking? You can get a pack of 12 hotdogs for $3. Add a pack of buns for another $3. You now have lunch for the whole week using only 2 days worth. That's an example. Also this is a SUPPLEMENT, you are supposed to, you know WORK as well. So if you get minimum wage at a job, then Food Stamps helps you out. If you are lazy, then starve.
Sorry to burst all your bubbles but most states require that you take a work study class 2 - 3 days a week or you have to report monthly at least 5 job application to prove you are not using food stamps to be lazy and not work. And food stamps pay for food that's it, not rent,utilities,car payments,insurance and other monthly bills. I do not believe that most folks on Foodstamps abuse them. No, I am not on foodstamps. But those I know do not abuse them. They use them for food. The actual name for food stamps is SNAP. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Key word there is Supplement. Food stamps should not cover the recipients entire grocery bill. People need to learn to purchase staple items instead of the crap that this video is suggesting. 10# of potatoes or a large bag of beans or rice will go much further than a can of spam. The program should be intended to assist those in need until they can provide for themselves. Not a handout, a hand up.

In Maryland you do not have to have kids in order to get food stamps. Where I live they are both male and females that are working and are getting food stamps who does not have children. I started getting food stamps when I started working, I was to ashamed to apply for them because I thought I was "too good" for them eventhough I needed them. Now I'm glad I applied and receive my card. It's helps out a lot every month with groceries for my son and I. I get $367.00 and that runs out quickly.

I actually work at the Food Stamp office in ky which is one of the poorest states in the country and the allotment for a household size of one is a hell of a lot more than $90 a month ($3 x 30) this challenge is a load of crap.

OK - I have watched the video and read the comments. I work at a grocery store and I have seen people with as much as $900 on the EBT card. I would say at least 80% of them are not trying to make their food stamps last, they are buying expense steaks, crab legs and other very expense items. One day a lady bought a cake for her boyfriend for their anniversary from our bakery that cost $58 and she had 3 small kids. I watch people buy $30 worth of beer & cigarettes after using their EBT card.
If we're going to have food stamps, it's probably worth it (for society) to pay for healthier foods than just the minimum. And barely anything you buy in bulk passes that test.
The last thing we need, is more people eating is tons of sugar, flour and vegetable oil doused food. Think about the healthcare costs.

On the average 2,000 calorie per day diet that would be enough for 250 days for one person, or 25 days for 10 people, if you do not waste any. With this combination of food besides the daily macaroni and cheese, rice and beans you can make bread, tortillas, pancakes, birthday cakes, muffins, biscuits, pop corn snacks, popcorn ball treats, waffles, cookies, quesadillas, cheese over rice, and etc

That's right. The key is to buy in bulk. Beans and rice cost a third as much or less if you buy them in 25 or 50 pound bags instead of one-pound bags. Fresh produce is a little tougher if you're single but with a large family you can buy ten-pound bags of grapefruit, etc. Add a small food processor like my Cuisinart (cost $30) and you can make ORGANIC peanut butter for less than $2/pound.
Some people go on food stamps, feel embarrassed, and change their ways. And some don't. That's all.

my single mom works at at fed-ex and sometimes my sister and I would have to split a batch of biscuits for dinner and our friends at school would give us their left overs. The food stamp challenge is surviving on foodstamps with three dollars of days worth of food. Ahahahahaha is should be the other way around. That it is how my tax paying family is living on. We spend on average $45-50 per week on food. Now I'm gonna take the 50 instead of the 45. Now divide the $50 by seven that brings it down to $9 dollars per day. Now divide that by 4 because that is the number of my household that brings is down to $1.80 cents.

I do not believe that most folks on Foodstamps abuse them. No, I am not on foodstamps. But those I know do not abuse them. They use them for food. I do agree that family and friends are going to have to go back to basics and start sticking together and helping one another out more though. Alot of people died before and during the depression. This is 2010, almost 2011. It's time to take what we've learned about the depression and apply what we learned with today's helps as well.

My Mother said she always had nice clothes, and food. She saw the depression with the people on the outside. My Grandmother owned Rockerfellar Square originally too. She worked hard, and went gray haired in her 20's. My Dad's Family was very very poor. But all of them were wealthy later in years.

The actual name for food stamps is SNAP. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Key word there is Supplement. Food stamps should not cover the recipients entire grocery bill. People need to learn to purchase staple items instead of the crap that this video is suggesting. 10# of potatoes or a large bag of beans or rice will go much further than a can of spam. The program should be intended to assist those in need until they can provide for themselves. Not a handout, a hand up.

Some recipients qualify for just a few dollars and I've personally seen others qualify for over 500+ which is over 16 dollars a day. Way more that it reasonably costs to support a families need. @sklldindivz I have worked retail and other places that take food stamps, for every one person that uses it the right way, there are 10 that drag there kids into convenience stores at 3 am, buy themselves junk food, beg people to let them buy there shit in exchange for cash so they can buy there cigarettes. Then theres most of them who use there foodstamps to buy food(mostly junk) then use cash to buy there dutch masters or other blunts which are used to roll weed with.. good use of tax money

i get no food stamps so i am forced to live on zero dollars a day budgeted for food, somehow i manage to survive, i wish i could get 3 dollars a day for food, why would anyone complain about getting something for nothing?? it just doesnt make sense. basically what i'm saying is that i don't know how ppl can't make ends meet on 3 free extra dollars worth of food per day when i get nothing. why isn't anyone helping me and ppl like me? boo hoo, i only got 3 dollars a day for food.... In Maryland you do not have to have kids in order to get food stamps. Where I live they are both male and females that are working and are getting food stamps who does not have children. I started getting food stamps when I started working, I was to ashamed to apply for them because I thought I was "too good" for them eventhough I needed them. Now I'm glad I applied and receive my card. It's helps out a lot every month with groceries for my son and I. I get $367.00 and that runs out quickly.

I have always wondered why the people I see using food stamps are by and large either waddling their fat asses up and down the aisle, or are riding their fat asses on a cart. I actually work at the Food Stamp office in ky which is one of the poorest states in the country and the allotment for a household size of one is a hell of a lot more than $90 a month ($3 x 30) this challenge is a load of crap.

This is because the poor who do not have the time and money to prepare nutritious meals go for quick solutions like pasta, ramen noodles, and white rice. All of that starch fills you up, cooks quickly, and is affordable. Unfortunately it also makes you obese and possibly diabetic.
When poor it is a struggle to afford things like fruit and vegetables.

OK - I have watched the video and read the comments. I work at a grocery store and I have seen people with as much as $900 on the EBT card. I would say at least 80% of them are not trying to make their food stamps last, they are buying expense steaks, crab legs and other very expense items. One day a lady bought a cake for her boyfriend for their anniversary from our bakery that cost $58 and she had 3 small kids. I watch people buy $30 worth of beer & cigarettes after using their EBT card.

If we're going to have food stamps, it's probably worth it (for society) to pay for healthier foods than just the minimum. And barely anything you buy in bulk passes that test.
The last thing we need, is more people eating is tons of sugar, flour and vegetable oil doused food. Think about the healthcare costs.
But even if you gave incentives for healthy food, you'd have to use the gov't's definition.

U can not just give someone $3 & expect them to do any quality volume buying.
For the price $6.50 I can buy 25lbs of flour. The key is volume. If you are claming stupidity on the part of the Food Stamp people as the reason they can not make it then perhaps you are right. But I already commented with a list of 350 lbs of food for $219 just below. The next month you could buy other things. LIKE 80oz. peanut butter $7.88, 64 oz jam $5.25, 6 lb Spaghetti $5.64 etc

By-the-way there are over one half million calories within the food items listed below from Sams. On the average 2,000 calorie per day diet that would be enough for 250 days for one person, or 25 days for 10 people, if you do not waste any. With this combination of food besides the daily macaroni and cheese, rice and beans you can make bread, tortillas, pancakes, birthday cakes, muffins, biscuits, pop corn snacks, popcorn ball treats, waffles, cookies, quesadillas, cheese over rice, and etc

This is why the "progressives" are trying to change the terminology from "hunger" to "food insecurity" to maintain the drama of economic disparity. Guess what? In the real world, MOST people shop wisely and economize while MANY people on Food Stamps buy convenience foods. I am a cashier and Wal-Mart and at least 65% of my customers use food stamps. I make only $800 a month and live alone. I don't qualify for food stamps because I have a job. Food stamps should only go to college students, single mothers, and the elderly. Everyone else can kiss my ass.

Sure you can live on $3 a day for food. Make your own bread for about 10 cents a loaf. It's 15 cents after electricity.
Buy in bulk. Rice, beans, wheat. Make your stuff from scratch. I can feed my family of 7 on $3 a day. I do it all the time (but not on food stamps). Just with healthy nutrient rich home made food.

That's right. The key is to buy in bulk. Beans and rice cost a third as much or less if you buy them in 25 or 50 pound bags instead of one-pound bags. Fresh produce is a little tougher if you're single but with a large family you can buy ten-pound bags of grapefruit, etc. Add a small food processor like my Cuisinart (cost $30) and you can make ORGANIC peanut butter for less than $2/pound.
Some people go on food stamps, feel embarrassed, and change their ways. And some don't. That's all.

my single mom works at at fed-ex and sometimes my sister and I would have to split a batch of biscuits for dinner and our friends at school would give us their left overs. Even at that point my mom made a little too much to qualify for food stamps. especially when children are involved- such programs are extremely important and necessary.
