Tivo will not know that you opened up the box anyway in this case.
Hey, do you know how I can connect my canadian HD shaw box to my tivo3? Shaw box is a cheap pieace of hardware terrible is painful. Id like to connect to my tivo I could change the channel on shaw but watch and record on tivo.Cos its faster more beautufl and had more functions! PLEASE! I dont care getting the HD channels I just want to use tivo which I have a lifetime and I HATE shaw box.!
NEVER EVER USE THIS METHOD ON A TIVO PREMIERE ...EVER...I TRIED IT AND IT BLOW OUT THE BOOTLOADER ON THE ORIGINAL TIVO DRIVE !

Could you use any regular 3.5" internal sata drive instead of opening an external?

cable comes from wall to shaw box
from shaw box to tivo
from tivo to TV
tivo has 2 IR senders that sit in front of shaw box to change channels
you use the tivo remote, the tivo sends signals with the senders to the shaw box to change channels
I hope this helps
If you hate shaw bozx so much you could get rid of it and only have channels up to 58. I am in vancouver and have shaw.
