Gimp Tutorial - Text Effects

I'm trying to create text with a stroke effect on an actual image not a color background. How can I get this to work for on an actual picture as well?

hmm dam not what im looking for, Im trying to figure out how to make a text with the side background stickin out on the side of the text, omg i cannot fuckin explain it, but I cant figure out how to doit, i know how to doit it on my pinnacle studio software but fuckin god damn it i cant figure it out in gimp, grrr!!

could i have my website banner as a background image and then, make different cool text like you have here for the page names, that are put on top of that banner pic? to get good quality, make sure you are using Camstudio recording, while on the smallest screen resolution possible, SAVE AS .AVI!!!
