also I believe the Master Emeralds only Role in the Sonic World is to balance out and control the power of the Chaos Emeralds. It can negate there power and drain them or increase the power of the 7 jems designed to contain large amounts of energy.
It falls under his "Potential Power", meaning he is more then capable of doing something but is just not doing it and is choosing not to max out on his ability's.
One good reason for this is it is just not good to show his "Maximum Power" game play wise because it would become impossible for the player in the game to keep up with Sonic's Faster then the speed of sound reflexes and speed.
I don't understand WHY everyone seems to diss Tails during this scene. Eggman already KNEW that it was fake! <.< Yes, Tails SHOULD have thought that through a bit more, but in the end he didn't do any harm. What, was Eggman trying to dispel Tails' reliability or something? <.<
Yeah. when I first seen this scene, I cut him slack. He's a lot younger, innocent, and pure than the rest of the cast, so of course he'll spill the beans that easily.
I'm almost certain that the whole "faster than the speed of sound" is just a metaphor. Sonic has never been faster than the speed of sound, and if he is, he has never, ever, ever proven it. Super Sonic is supposedly faster than the speed of light. If this was true, a lot of these things involving super sonic shouldn't happen, or shouldn't be as "hard" as they make it seem to be because he should be able to do what ever needs to be done in an instant.
@TranceCore3 We've never actually seen Sonic at his max speed or him getting to a speed and then actually struggling to go any faster so we don't know that he can't.
Lots of characters can canonically do things that they never bother to do in games. Games are just weird like that.
In either case, because he never showcases this, how are we supposed to believe he can do something like that? At least with mario's case, he has actually proven what he can do, rather than saying he can do something, and then never doing it at all. Hell. Even shadow as a character, is better in that aspect.

When they are about to unleash the final blow, sonic and shadow come close togther, charge at the villain and seconds before striking Shadow throws off his ring and Sonic and Shadow both yell at once CHAOS..........When It hits its targets shadow will do a Chaos Blast, so you will see a flash of red followed quickly by a bright light as both sonic and Shadow say CONTROL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
they then meet up,have less then 10 minutes left so Sonic annd Shadow go Super, Racing around the world to destroy the "Mental Bases" which need to be destroyed before you can even harm the real villain at the central control base of the eggman empire.
after all the bases are destroyed, Sonic and Shadow battle out this new villain in a badass final boss fight.
were he merges with the entire Empire Robot empire(The entire world is covered in robots and has been converted into a machine like planet) so basically this new villain becomes the eggman empire intent on destroying all life on the planet and if now stopped, inb less then 1 hour, every living this will be dead.
So sonic and shadow go out, garther up and steal back the chaos emeralds spread around the world in say, "mental base levels" as everything is trying to kill them.
Sonic goes to combat eggman though a few stages, the eggman pre-final boss battle ends with eggman telling him he can't win after fighting with sonic for abit, then some new villain that eggman has prepared for sonics final destruction destroys eggmans new indestrucable robot,maybe shadow like style,beats up sonic,steakls the chaos emeralds and uses chaos control to teleport to the main control center of the eggman empire
What eggman was badass and had actully good ideas to kill sonic, like holding amy at gun point to get what he wants from sonic.
If we ever get a Sonic adventure 3, I want eggman to be goofy/the badass he is here, a mix between the two basically of old eggman and modern eggman,eggman looks like his plans get foiled, sonic thinks he ruined his plans, all the over storys finish.
Final story, eggman pulls a fast one and completes his plans and takes over the world.

Oh, now it makes sense. In my mind, Tails had the fake emerald the whole time, while Sonic had the REAL one to use Chaos Control. The emerald Eggman stole was the fake one, since the cannon didn't fire.
i think this is the only game where eggman actually sounded evil. even though deem bristow also voiced him in sonic adventure and sonic heroes, this is the only game where he went with a more quiet approach. rather than shouting out most of his lines, he tones it down and gives him a low-pitched snarl. it makes him sound like a villain, which he should.
When i played SA2 first, years ago- I admit i was dum enough to think(i went dark storyline first) that if they gathered the emeralds, thye'd revive sonic or something...

This game gave a huge boost for Tails' character development. From just being Sonic's sidekick listening to Sonic's every command, now taking a bigger role in this game and actually up against the Doctor on his own.

Eggman seemed to have turned good, Rouge gave up on her jewel obsession, Shadow learned that he was created to save humanity, became good and lost all his hatred and Amy was actually usefu. It's as if the next games pretended SA2 never happened.
Still my favorite scene in SA2:B along with the awesome super transformation in the Last Story , all the Shadow Maria scenes & Knuckles saving Rouge scene

Why is it that so many great voice actors/portrayers of a popular character died recently? I mean, think about it...
Long John Baldry (Dr. Eggman in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog), Deem Bristow, Heath Ledger, Jim Varney (Slinky in TS1/TS2), etc.
All of these guys were amazing. BTW, I don't really get why the voice actors for video game characters always change (specifically Sonic). Can't they just keep the voice actors they have?! The changes are usually worse, not better...

@CrimsonVermillioneye I know. I kind of enjoyed that, even if it seemed out of place and cheesy. The thing is, that if a game doesn't have enough of an involving story, then once the actual game-play becomes something of a chore, (and I've never played a single video game where that didn't happen) then I'll lose interest. If a game has an emphasis on story, then I'll have something to keep me interested.
When playing video games, yes, I do have something of a short attention span. And by chore, I don't mean that I can't finish the game to save my life, just that every game has something annoying about it, and if I'm not going to get anything out of completing it. And when I said "a chore," I meant only for brief periods of the game. Still, If the game has an emphasis on story, then there's still something that I'll get out of finishing the game.
the storyline and gameplay are still the best from this game better than all 3D sonic games that came out they lack actual good story, the only one that I really liked apart from SA2 was Sonic unleashed, that was pretty good. other than that they all suck, heroes was too colourful and corny, sonic 06 tried to be too "epic" and was way too long with crappy load times, all in all I say Sonic Adventure 2 did it best
I thought that Sonic's survival via chaos control with a FAKE emerald was a good plot twist. The dark story makes it more dramatic because you don't really know it's sonic until the last boss battle.
this is one of my favorite cutscenes because it shows just how cool/evil of a villan he really is and that he knows what he's doing i mean really useing the girl as bait leading the hero into a trap for his death!classic villan qualaties

sa2b is a port for the game cube. also, they removed big the cat from 2 player and replaced him with dark chao walker. they redid some of the cutscenes as well.
slightly enhanced graphics, big is replaced with dark chao walker in 2p mode, some of the lines in the script are worded differently, but u must b paying attention 2 note the differences.

Why is it that so many great voice actors/portrayers of a popular character died recently? I mean, think about it...
Long John Baldry (Dr. Eggman in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog), Deem Bristow, Heath Ledger, Jim Varney (Slinky in TS1/TS2), etc.
All of these guys were amazing. BTW, I don't really get why the voice actors for video game characters always change (specifically Sonic). Can't they just keep the voice actors they have?! The changes are usually worse, not better...

@CrimsonVermillioneye I know. I kind of enjoyed that, even if it seemed out of place and cheesy. The thing is, that if a game doesn't have enough of an involving story, then once the actual game-play becomes something of a chore, (and I've never played a single video game where that didn't happen) then I'll lose interest. If a game has an emphasis on story, then I'll have something to keep me interested.

When playing video games, yes, I do have something of a short attention span. And by chore, I don't mean that I can't finish the game to save my life, just that every game has something annoying about it, and if I'm not going to get anything out of completing it. And when I said "a chore," I meant only for brief periods of the game. Still, If the game has an emphasis on story, then there's still something that I'll get out of finishing the game.

the storyline and gameplay are still the best from this game better than all 3D sonic games that came out they lack actual good story, the only one that I really liked apart from SA2 was Sonic unleashed, that was pretty good. other than that they all suck, heroes was too colourful and corny, sonic 06 tried to be too "epic" and was way too long with crappy load times, all in all I say Sonic Adventure 2 did it best

I thought that Sonic's survival via chaos control with a FAKE emerald was a good plot twist. The dark story makes it more dramatic because you don't really know it's sonic until the last boss battle.

sa2b is a port for the game cube. also, they removed big the cat from 2 player and replaced him with dark chao walker. they redid some of the cutscenes as well.

Lol Eggman was a pretty hard boss, but one time I beat him in less than 30 seconds without getting hit, i just went crazy and fired everywhere.
