wow this woman would get death threats for beating justin biebers stupid pre pubescent ass. his stupid illiterate fans would be mad that they cant understand any music thats the smallest bit challenging
This song is one of my favorites of Esperanza's work. She is an incredible artist and I can't wait to see her at the Gem Theater in Kansas City, MO on October 21, 2011. I haven't enjoyed listening to an artist with her genius in a long time. There aren't that many musicians with her caliber around these days. Jazz is an awesome genre of music to listen to. Go Esperanza!
Dame la esperanza de sentirme entre tus manos, marcame con el compas ,ocultame entre semicorcheas de pasion, desnudame como desnudas a tu instrumento, besame con tus cantos, enamorate de mis besos.
@8dionysus8 This is no discovery of jazz but it is the discovery of a unique sound ...Please don't steal my joy.. I love Jazz and listen to Much Jazz, Esperanza is not the average Jazz singer.. and you would be right about Not listening to Bossa Nova.. I haven't.. and she is that refreshing mix both..
I am 17... and this song is showing me to treat my body as a temple. And look out for those who want to darken my temple. I am a young man as well. I get laughed at cause i want to save myself from marriage. Lol, sorry that was the message i got from the song and it was heavy on my mind. :)
@09barack That is great! Stay true to yourself! Don't worry about what other people may say or think about you. More young men should look to you as an example of someone who does not falter nor is not swayed by others and truly stands for what they believe in. I think you are someone who doesnt let society define you as a man, and more young boys and young men need to break free of those gender stereotypes, and be themselves. So continue being you and staying true! Peace and blessings =D
On top of which she attended the Berklee school of music at 16 and by 20 not only graduated with highest honors but was also asked to join the staff, making her the youngest faculty member in the history of Berklee. Trust me Esperanza's doin just fine, even against mainstream artists. To say she's talented is an understatement.

@sdidovich1 jazzz is not unfortunate, jazz has longevity and is not a fad, they silently make millions of dollars and participate in humanitarian works.. beibers is great in his musical category.. and Esperanza is great in hers.
@777argentina Really, man? This woman has great talent. She makes her own music, Bieber just sings cheezy crap. Only reason he's famous is because he has connections with -who was it...- Usher?
not sure who Deedler is.. where can I find his music? Did he write this one? I just think Esperanza has a unique spin to Jazz in general.. her own style
were can I find out about more jazz artists like this? I found out artists like clara hill, viktor duplaix, jazzanova by typing in acid jazz on youtube but when I type in jazz it comes up with the old 1930's jazz
@casio3991 I would say to maybe make a Esperanza Spalding station on Pandora, and it'll play music similiar to her's. I think I'm about to make one, cause I want to find more jazz artist like this too!!!! And I love Clara Hill and Vikter Duplaix too!!! I have a Vikter Duplaix station right now on Pandora too, and I love it, so try that one too :)
This musical artist..Esperanza Spalding.. has created a new Genre in music.. the music industry should really consider not categorizing her just yet.. she definitely has a mixture of sounds..loaded within her.. and she sounds like soo many artists all bottled up into one.. she is that sparkling ball of energy.. that hovers over our heads.. because she is ahead of her time and we won't catch up until years to come. She is a musical artist she paints with her music and voice..and it's wonderful!
@usrawesome: I get a feeling that this is the first jazz musician you have really listened to. I am happy that through Esperanza Spalding you have have discovered the most artistic genere of music, jazz. Esperanza was categorized as jazz years ago. This may be her first album but she has been performing at the best jazz halls for several years now. Glad to see your all excited about your new discovery but this is jazz! Some of her songs are Bossa Nova which is a mixture of samba and jazz.
If you look at the video statistics for any Esperanza video, the view count shoots up right after the Grammy's. Even though many of those views are probably Justin Bieber fans, at least more people have been exposed to this great music.
This young woman is talented beyound her years. Esperanza is simply amazing & awesome. Wow! Im loving jazz more & more. I think she has more huge things coming in her future. Such a young powerhouse of pure & raw talent.
its funny she gets alot of comparisons to amel. But That makes me wonder why hasnt amel gotten this much love out of the blue.Songs like For eal and get up was ahead of its time.Well im glad that atleast this type of artist gets appreciated.
I absolutely love this girl. So amazing, shes the total package, and is greater than any of the contemporaries out. Forget rihanna, forget beyonce, forget keri hilson. This is real music and this is what great music is made of.
@noblesiner Yay! I feel you. Have you heard of my favorite artist, Amel Larrieux? She is even more underrated than Esparanza. This isn't spam! Just replying to a real music lover.
@AftonEpicMusic Even if it was spam its still an appreciated comment. I just Checked out Amel Larrieux and I can dig it. I can't wait to listen to more stuff by her. Its good to come across people on the internet who still appreciate creative music. Music that have the positive elements of its heritage with in it but at the same time is progressive and contains a contemporary feel.
@MaeSlay Because the awards are voted on by a variety of industry executives, producers, and other high powered moguls with a seasoned palate for all artists of all genres. It is not based on popularity, thank goodness.

@mhattwick the point of the best new artist category wuz 2 pit all the best new artists against each other and compare their audience response against each other. sooo, this category gives any1 a chance 2 win unlike other categories wich nomin8 only mainstream artists. so obviously they can put jb against esperanza bcuz they both have a fan base.
I had no idea she won a grammy until I saw it commented in here, awesome, I can only laugh at the way some people react, anyway, she is a beautiful and talented woman and deserves every bit of recognition

@lamamessenger wow are you serious you are extremely ignorant, justin beiber makes music that will only last for about 1 year 2 years maxx and when he's no longer relevant he'll be on those where are they now reality tv shows just liked all the other washed up pop stars before him. She actually makes music that will last for generations so please keep your horribly childish comments to yourself
We do. Just because you don't have the heart to listen to another genre does not give you the right to bash her. Too bad. She won the Grammy anyway and there's nothing you can do about it, you uncultured hater.
@01trueloveneverdies don't hate! if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all. if you don't like it dislike the vid and move on. there is no need to spread negativity.
yup im one of the loosers that handt heard this before! i appreciate it and enjoy it nonetheless awesome music is timeless its never too late to take the time to get to know real artistic work
all of u ppl need to cool the fuck down, do u guys realize the psycho intensity of your words. its ridiculous and the only point your proving is that your crazy.
man, kids have violent imaginations on these message boards. maybe it's the video games, cause so many of you people need to cool down and watch what youre saying, youre talking about human beings, about music, which is a beautiful medium, and so many of these posts take it down to nothing but silly kids talking tough about musical artists, it's ridiculous. Can't you just recognize this woman for the talent she is? That's all that's going on. She's not in a race with Justin Bieber.
@mhattwick she is crazy talented. honestly, justin bieber looks like a joke compared to her and other seriously talented artists like her. 90% of the artists nowadays don't even have real talent. this is why i like the music from our parents and grandparents' time, because thats when there was genuine talent.
@mhattwick terrible at bass!? How can she be terrible at bass when she taught at Berkley at the young age of 20 on how to play bass and be a musician. I wonder what's your definition of a good bass.
@mhattwick The category was not based on GENRE...it was for Best new artist; and she fits the bill 100% even though Esperanza actually had an album out before JB. JB would not be in a Jazz category, and Esperanza obviously is not pop. He didn't win in that category either.
@NegraBendita Even more awesome is that a very deserving artist now gets attention from a much wider demographic. She can spread her passion and soul farther than ever before...also a plus; potentially selling that many more albums. =]
this is deffinatly better than jb, i read how fans are leaving abusive messages. doing that just disgusts me, but a lovely song and artist, she really desserved the award 8)
For those of you who really like this song, be sure to check out the video where she appeared on Tavis Smiley. It's just ES and a drummer playing brushes on a snare - suh-weeeet!!!! Best version of this song, IMO.
Shes Afrocentric....if you like her do yourself a favour check out lira nad claire phillips and south african jazz...then you'll understand me when i say...this aint nothing new...and nothing special....but i do appreciate her...Jazz needs to stay alive...the western world needs to expand their listening...the radio doesn't control your music taste...you do
Thing is she isn't new, she's been in the game for a MINUTE and she's BEEN talented. But we let whatever is on the radio waves in heavy rotation and the Grammy's dictate to us what talent is and even dare to call it music. No, this girl was already talented way before she won that Grammy. I think they got a new committee and they bout to stop giving recognition to all this foolishness and start giving these awards to the true talents that deserve them and if so, BOUT TIME and KUDOS to them!
Her winning the Grammy has restored some of my faith in the awards committee. Her talent is so far beyond any of the other nominees....and I have nothing against any of them but lets be honest here....it's TRUE. Talented AND beautiful...I think her winning was the highlight of the show....and she deserved to win.
Ralynnandme1 exactly thank u vary much rely people need to stop this hating for Justin and esparanza ok leave them alone ok u can like them or not just keep it to ur self
I loved her answer to Frost in an interview. He asked more or lesS "how come president Obama chose you to perform in the White House?". She replied... well, actually I was invited by Stevie Wonder"...STEVIE WONDER!!!!!!
i was wondering what the fuss was about ppl kept saying some random nobody won best new artist..when i found out it was Esperanza i was like tf u mean nobody! i got offended a little lol...i been jammin her for a min.

@01trueloveneverdies don't hate! if you don't have anything good to say, don't say anything at all. if you don't like it dislike the vid and move on. there is no need to spread negativity.

man, kids have violent imaginations on these message boards. maybe it's the video games, cause so many of you people need to cool down and watch what youre saying, youre talking about human beings, about music, which is a beautiful medium, and so many of these posts take it down to nothing but silly kids talking tough about musical artists, it's ridiculous. Can't you just recognize this woman for the talent she is? That's all that's going on. She's not in a race with Justin Bieber.
Phidian 11 months ago 15
@mhattwick You're a moron. Justin Bieber is a no-talent hack with a faggoty haircut. He should be cut up into pieces and used to make a hearty stew.

@mhattwick she is crazy talented. honestly, justin bieber looks like a joke compared to her and other seriously talented artists like her. 90% of the artists nowadays don't even have real talent. this is why i like the music from our parents and grandparents' time, because thats when there was genuine talent.

@MirandaLynn1223 yea she did and her music is beyond amazing, and justin beiber music is garbage compared to her :)
QueenVicky20299 11 months ago
@mhattwick terrible at bass!? How can she be terrible at bass when she taught at Berkley at the young age of 20 on how to play bass and be a musician. I wonder what's your definition of a good bass.

If this song was 25 years old, Cliff and Claire would have been dancing to this on the Cosby Show. gotta love jazz :)
sabersgrrl 1 year ago 5
@sabersgrrl lol omg that wouldve been amazing! bill cosby loves jazz
eritreangurrl 1 year ago 2
@mhattwick The category was not based on GENRE...it was for Best new artist; and she fits the bill 100% even though Esperanza actually had an album out before JB. JB would not be in a Jazz category, and Esperanza obviously is not pop. He didn't win in that category either.

@NegraBendita Even more awesome is that a very deserving artist now gets attention from a much wider demographic. She can spread her passion and soul farther than ever before...also a plus; potentially selling that many more albums. =]

@anglebaby33 me too! just for a few weeks, though. Nevertheless, it was nice to know she won a Grammy

Dear idiots who think she didn't deserve the Grammy, it was "Best New Artist" not "Most Popular in the Shortest Period of TIme" x2 (RSRS)
Concordo plenamente !!!!!
midiaBmaluf 1 year ago
Thing is she isn't new, she's been in the game for a MINUTE and she's BEEN talented. But we let whatever is on the radio waves in heavy rotation and the Grammy's dictate to us what talent is and even dare to call it music. No, this girl was already talented way before she won that Grammy. I think they got a new committee and they bout to stop giving recognition to all this foolishness and start giving these awards to the true talents that deserve them and if so, BOUT TIME and KUDOS to them!

I've been a fan of Esperanza's for a while now and I'm so glad she's getting more attention..she's amazingly talented <3 :)
TheOpalrain 1 year ago 2
Her winning the Grammy has restored some of my faith in the awards committee. Her talent is so far beyond any of the other nominees....and I have nothing against any of them but lets be honest here....it's TRUE. Talented AND beautiful...I think her winning was the highlight of the show....and she deserved to win.
