Night of full moon, arrange some cut pampas grass in a tall vase, eat dango and tell kids a story that there's a rabbit on the moon pounding a mochi.
There's no commercialism involved in this event (as far as I know) unlike Tanabata. People just spend a quiet evening appreciate the beauty of the nature.
Hmm before you did a close up on the dolls they didn't seam like much, but after seeing the omg incredible detail and realizing that it's done with paper, it's just stunning :)
Wow! The folding of the paper is so intricate, that's one of the neatest things I've seen you have, such a beautiful work of art! I wonder what kind of paper it was, or if it was made with starch water or glue.
Emily is so cute, such a good assistant! And translator, too. Can she read English as well?
Kurt those dolls are just lovely! I have one that is three inches tall and its made of fabric. Its depicts a geisha doing a dance with a hat and is very colorful! Thank you for showing us these dolls :)
Hello XlabX123, You are certainly welcome to visit if you plan to come to Shizuoka. Perhaps we can meet for a day of exploring in our area? Just let me know ahead of time. I'm typically free on Sundays. -Kurt :-)
Very cool softy. I have my 9 yr old son help my from time to time. Always makes an interesting video to edit. I always find clips I didn't know he shot.
Typical Otsukimi (moon sighting) goes like this.
Night of full moon, arrange some cut pampas grass in a tall vase, eat dango and tell kids a story that there's a rabbit on the moon pounding a mochi.

When I see things like that that were made by hand I always think of the person who made it and all the attention and detail they put into it.
Things like that have a sort "karma" (for lack of a better word) to them that mass produced items never have.
