East Galway Animal Rescue (EGAR) has said today that the court will allow Bruce to go to their sanctuary in Eire (across the border-he is currenly held in kennels in Northern Ireland) with conditions. More news to follow!

Sorry about the language in the last comment but I'm so against any and every type of BSL, animal abuse, cruelty. Animlas have feelings like the rest of us and there's no reason to judge all dogs or their breeds as the same just because of one dog. Irrespective of wether poor old Bruce is a pitbull or not, he deserves better treatment than he is getting. Perhaps the RSPCA would like to look into how the animals are being kept, Local coucils have a duty to protect the health of the animals in there charge, however this is never upheld because it will be to far down the list of priorities. He`s been inside nearly 2yrs what are they playing at?

In 1994 I had a beautiful loving Brindle Pitty,his demeanor was sweet and he loved kiss's,he once got away from me while in our front yard and ran up the street when he saw another dog,he was so sweet that he actually licked the strange dogs face with his tail wagging,he was never ever aggressive,he is gone from me now but his memory is forever cherished,people,it's the owner that turns this beautiful breed into aggressive dog's,and it's owners like that who should be banned from animals.

However, Bruces owner is appealing this decision and following a brief hearing on the 12th November, the case has been listed for mention on 12th January 2009 at which time a date for the appeal will be fixed. Sadly for Bruce this means hell be spending more months incarcerated in kennels.

Bruce, a dog seized in Northern Ireland as being of the Pit Bull type, is still awaiting the appeal on his death sentence. The case was originally heard at Bangor Magistrates Court on 27th August, where Dr Mugford gave evidence stating that Bruce was merely a friendly Staffordshire Bull Terrier. Unfortunately the Magistrates concluded that Bruce was of the type and ordered his destruction.

Legislators need to use factual information instead of hysteria and media-driven hype in creating laws. Breed Temperament testing is the perfect place to start; it's easily accessible, and tells the facts about breed disposition toward humans. Punish individuals, not every creature that looks similar.

I own a Rottweiler. I have a large fenced area with a locked gate when she's outside so there's never been an issue with neighbors. She can get protective of us, so we have to be careful when we have company. That's the difference, whether or not the owner is responsible. Putting an animal down that has never bitten is wrong I don't care what kind of dog it is. The state he is in now is the real crime why is he covered in sores like that?
