To those who say that my waves are terrible: Well, you're right! This was 3 years ago and honestly, my waves were only ok. My waves are GREAT now because I continued hammering in these steps! Regardless of how good my waves were back then, the steps are correct and following them will lead to great technique! I keep thinking of posting an updated version with a few extra tips/body waves/better waving on my part, but I'm afraid that it won't see many views with this one already so popular! lol
when i pop the elbow part my shoulder always seems to go high so it looks weird when i try to put the elbow into the shoulder and it doesnt really "go" any help?
i arm wave good going inwards towards from my shoulder but i have a problem going outwards from my shoulder any tips? i get the idea of just doing the steps backwards but it doesn't look fluent.

@haleyyyyy01 Unfortunately, what you are going to have to do is train yourself to relax that shoulder on step 2! Don't force it down or it will hurt. Rather, relax it and it should lower. If you are still having trouble with it, try stretching out very well a few times a week for awhile. See if that doesn't make it a bit easier.

@joltcokeeee I know this may sound self-explanatory... but the ONLY way to do it is to practice... A good way to improve one's left arm is to wave from the left fingers to the shoulder... and then back down the same arm over and over. As with most dance moves... One must practice until it becomes so natural that you don't have to think about it anymore.

It takes time to learn and it varies from person to person... This was after a good while of arm waving. You continually get better over time. Even the greatest poppers still improve over time. This is me from a couple of years ago, even though I posted it just some time last year. I will actually be making new tutorials within the next few months. I just got a job at a new dance studio, so I will have access to a studio to tape in.
Elbow bend = no. I don't care about views, but tutorials like this are the reason why no one gets above par. Or even at par for that matter. Missing the fingers, your arms aren't staying in the same place after the fact to give the illusion a wave is passion through. Not hating, but i'm just saying. Your body = not there at all. Actually the reason that no one gets above/at par is because they think that they are going to learn how to become a hip hop dancer by watching youtube tutorials... You learn by taking classes and dancing with other dancers. You DO bend your elbow when you arm wave. That is how you create the illusion of a wave passing through the mid-section of your arm. and the tips section at the end addresses keeping your arms in the same place after the fact.. Don't hate. just love the dance
Hip hop dancers prefer bending the elbow, Poppers roll/twist it creating more of a liquid effect. In the popping community we do use a bend but more favor the twisting technique. The thing is there are a million and one ways to wave. It's up to you how it's done. Check my waving session & you will see my waves are totally different. It's down to the individual what path they take. Experiment & enjoy. Good tutorial. Try to isolate more to create a cleaner effect

For everyone who is having trouble with their shoulders hurting... do your best to stretch before you begin (though I'm sure you've already done this...) In addition... this WILL make your arm sore if you run it 5,000,000 times in a row... however... if you keep your arms very relaxed... you shouldn't have too much difficulty with soreness... hopefully this helps! =)

It takes time to learn and it varies from person to person... This was after a good while of arm waving. You continually get better over time. Even the greatest poppers still improve over time.
