Turns out that the boss was the owner. He seemed unaware of the conflicts of interest. Maybe he'll pay the price for this when the next CFO comes in.
To be honest, I suspect that, given the business's size, the owner has a good 'reality check' on what profit should be. But then again, I've heard of so many people 'who should know better' being defrauded by their accountants...
It is interesting though....yes, I watch YouTube for my thoughts to be provoked and not just juicy gossip, funny dogs or free music....perhaps the boss was also paid a bonus based on profit, so he thought he could indirectly manipulate profit by paying the accountant a bonus based on profit...and that accountant may cop the blame if anything went wrong and the boss could play ignorant.
