John McRae was truly inspired to write this poem. Unless I'm mistaken he was a doctor, very affected treating the dead and the dying in Belgium.
He was himself killed not long after. A truly great sacrifice.

Yes, John McRea was a field surgeon. He was killed in battle not long after composing his famous poem.

i really appreciate this tribute to the most sacreficial 4 years of all time
but the choice of music has too many connotations with vietnam, a war which was chosen to be fought by a western power
where as the First world war was one which was unavoidable, its just a shame that there isnt other music more appropriate for a war tribute
'and at the going down of the sun and in the morning, we WILL REMEMBER THEM!'

I try not to think of vietnam as a war. It was more of an ongoing mistake

How are you associating this music with Vietnam?

They used this music for the film Platoon. It was not written for that purpose and was also used in the film Elephant Man. Think it's called Adagio in C strings or something similar.
The bunker where John McCrae wrote him poem is still there. You can visit it.
