What an incredibly powerful voice...exciting song....brings back delicious memories of hearing this as a teenager in 1975. Honey, now I'm on my way I'm on FIRE
@gonkerooney This was before Dr Kiss Kiss. By the time Dr Kiss Kiss was released Tina Charles had left the grouped and was replaced by Linda Kelly as vocalist
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
@bedfordcf Tina Charles was about to have a solo hit and didn't want to front the band so Luan was brought in by the time it was a hit in the UK. On "Top of the pops" you saw Luan singing her version but on the record you always got Tina's version.
@gahctep Yeah, even the superannuated couple (the woman looks like a German Dr Joyce Brothers) look like they are enjoying it. Perhaps when Germans aren't making watches, throwing immigrants out of 5 storey towers, and building form to function they CAN relax a bit. :-)
There were very few white voices like hers in that golden disco era. Lots of good black ones (e. g. Maxine Nightingale, Thelma Houston...) but hardly any white ones to write home about. Plus, hers does even sound as a black lady's voice.
The blonde lady was Luan Peters who performed as the singer for the band when they appeared on Top of the Pops, even though Tina Charles provided the vocals for "I'm on Fire." Tina replaced Luan officially later.
She maybe is "cute" and "great" but the shocking new thing for a 70s' European song were the lyrics bewitching this openly. How many of us did in those days realize what it all was to be about? May God bless you all!
Wow...I never knew that the lead on this underrated song was Tina Charles! Her voice sounds raspier than her traditional hits. I also notice how the older folks in this video waited patiently and acutally liked this performance. Disco music really did cross over generations unlike today's pop music.
what I never understood is that they didn't show or let Tina perform her own song!I mean,if anyone can remember, there was all of a sudden some blond girl in the front with a see-through shirt or blouse on?BUT with TINA's voice,so yeah, playback!PLEASE! I don't know, but even if Tina didn't have size s or m,she looked beautiful and she had 1 HELL of a voice! So please,record-companies,rather an L or xl size please with beauty and a original MEGA voice? Thanks! TIna because you were TOP in every way!
Oh yes, I do remember this one! I heard it on American Top 40, A weekly program that was aired across the USA, & here in Vancouver Canada I picked it up by tuning in KJR seattle on sunday morning. It definetly wasn't played here locally, like a number of other hits I heard. In a couple of cases I went south of the line to pick up on 'em since record were the thing to have back when. As much as I loved this disco song I never picked up on it. Thanks for posting!
Can anyone help me,and tell me what happened to Tina After her solo or 5000 Volts career?Great Lady,Fantastic voice!
And I thought that and think still that way from the first time in the 70's,I saw her on TV!Just wonder what's s'he's doing now??Thanks,to anyone who can help.
Wow!....I soo didn't know they were from Germany (?)!!! ...and that they were white! This's not a problem, they just sounded different than they looked. Igot the 45 record of 'em when the song 1st came out in '74...great song!
Though Charles provided the vocals, she was not at the time publicly acknowledged as the group's singer, and on the band's 1974 appearance on BBC Television's Top Of The Pops, singer/actress Luan Peters fronted the group. However, the publicity surrounding the revelation of Charles' contributions to the group gave her solo career a boost......5,000 Volts are British and Not German LOL
Great song from '75 and wow Tina Charles is smokin hot. I like how she shakes her stuff, love it how her boobs bounce up and down. Lovely. If I am correct, when they went into the studio to make the 5000 Volts album, Tina Charles was no longer with the group and the new singer's name was Linda Kelly. So the album version of I'm On Fire with Linda Kelly is different than the original single version with Tina Charles.
I also have the american release of the single- Look Out I'm Coming. Again, this version is different from the version on the album. The single version is a little faster and uptempo while the album version is not as fast and plods along a bit. So the version on the single is better. It's very confusing, I don't know if they decided to remix the song for the single release or if the single version is sung by Tina Charles and the album version is sung by Linda Kelly.
I don't think the 5000 volts album was ever released in the states, the only version I know of is the British/european release. I think the album might have been released in Canada also. As far as I know, the album has only one version with Linda Kelly as the singer. Tina Charles sings on the single version of I'm On Fire and perhaps some of the other singles also.
Have you noticed how some of those in the audience there look totally disinterested? Or could it also be because they don't understand English? :D DISCO was a German programme.
When 5000 Volts appeared on Top Of The Pops in 1975, Tina Charles was replaced by Luan Peters, because, allegedly, Tina Charles was regarded as being not sufficiently glamorous. In 1979, Luan Peters achieved fame playing the attractive Australian guest in the Fawlty Towers episode "The Psychiatrist".
Sad but after what happened in the 80s & particularly the early 90s (ie Milli Vanilli,Black Box)not surprising.
This clip she looks quite beautiful ... but compare to the clip from "tinas177" ... amazing that different camera angles & top can make such a difference!
When comparing the two clips, you're assessment is absolutely correct! In 1976, when I worked at Harrods, I watched Tina Charles recording a promotional video for "Dance Little Lady Dance". The recording was made in the food halls (which struck me as an unusual location) but the single was a hit, reaching the UK top ten!
another thing to say is that his concert was bugged... the way she sings it is exactly how it sounds on the album. basicly she is lip singing her own song. its not a bad thing tho... artists do this when they are not feeling like their voice is all there.

5000 Volts is the name of a British disco recording act which achieved success throughout Europe during the 1970s.
The group consisted of vocalists Tina Charles and Martin Jay, with a changing group of session musicians.
