He uses the Randall T2, but I'm not sure if he uses that amp in this particular video. He also uses a BBE boost pedal called the "Green Screamer" to get his lead tones. Hopefully that helps.

Btw, it was just announced at NAMM that Gus now has a signature Randall based on the T2 called "Heaven and Hell". You can see a picture preview of it at Firewind's official website, but not on Randall's website (as of now) for some strange reason.

This exercise is a lot harder if you play it legato. It's harder for the fingers, but it's great to train power, endurance, speed and finger independance at the same time. Though, if you want to train picking speed you can pick the notes. I play Vader instead picking chromatic scales;)
