The main ingredient is labor, I make it in the summer time when onions are cheaper, and then freeze single servings for later in the year. I don't want to even see any onion soup when I get through with my summer batch, but I do start looking for it when it starts getting cold.
@Antiks72 Don't get me wrong, I adore garlic in most things but the flavour in French Onion Soup comes from the onions. But like I said "each to their own" :-)
Mind you, how about fresh cracked black pepper on sorbet, phwoar. Particularly mango or raspbury sorbet.
