Oh piles. What has happened to my tiny but menacing prisoner-of-war camp? All the animals are getting away! Scrotum, pass me my pistol and I'll see if i can bring the blighters down....
Bonkers. Love it, remember them from Do Not Adjust Your Set on British TV years ago, this one, Mr. Slaters Parrot and My Pink Half of the Drainpipe are particular favourites. Thanks.
Family Guy actually borrowed the name from this song...although there's no real connection to the song whatsoever (albeit a man in a suit wearing a pig suit's head)...
I miss the Bonzos. Viv died in a horrible house fire. Him and kieth Moon were crazy together! neil Innes still tours with a small band playing his and Bonzo tunes. There is a 40th Anniversary dvd of the reuniting with all the old group and special guest Stephen Frye and others playing all the old tunes. It is excellent and worth looking for if your a fan. Much of the old hijinks on stage will bring back memories if your a fan. Stuff it up your jumper bododio!
@leushy Leslie Sarony, the man who wrote this song back in 1930, also wrote "Don't be Cruel to a Vegetabuel". So he was also concerned about plant rights. Of course, he might have been kidding around. ;)
@schuller51 You're dead right - I wouldn't want to be 16 again now - not in these times. I find this to be a form of escapism, which is very welcome. Thanks for your comment.
@Derwentcub --- not at all! A gracious answer is always worth waiting for, and thank you. I only wish I owned a television station because I've toyed with some ideas for a "Jollity Farm" show.
I love this 30's sound the Bonzos recreated. If you like this, try you tubing the gorgeous 'Anyone for Tennis' by Stackridge. Great lyrics and Jim 'Warren's beautiful voice. First formed in 1969, they're still going strong and he can still reach those incredible high notes! Stackridge at their most whimsical would definitely appeal to Bonzo fans. Latest album 'A Victory for Common Sense' is a joy. Check out Stackridge, you won't be sorry you did. I love them!!!
@madjulie100 Thanks for the info on Stackridge. I saw them many years ago at the King's Hall in Derby, England, and was very impressed back then. Would like to hear some of their newer stuff.
Brilliant as always.First heard this at a ' Stereo ' demonstration at Bletchley Park Mansion in the library whilst on a PO engineering training course in 1967.The Gorilla LP was and still is one of my all time favourites, an bloody masterpiece !.
I saw the Bonzos at the "Albert Hall" in London in 1969 I believe. On the same bill was Peter Sarstedt, Joe Cocker, and Tiny Tim, plus a few others I cant remember their names, what a night. Tiny Tim actually had a good singing voice when he wanted, but he was ugly, I hate to say that really , but he was. It was still quite inexpensive right up until the eighties to go and see live groups and artists, not like today's costs..
@inisk Sounds like a great night. You're right about prices, too. I used to go to concerts at the King's Hall in Derby, and I could have a full night out for under £10.
@homemoviescolorado Quality comedy music is hard to pull off, I'd say we do have Flight of the Conchords and Mr B the Gentleman Rhymer these days, although perhaps not as avant garde as the Bonzo's, Mr B is certainly as eccentric.
Yes let's all wish and do the best for everyone else. If we did so I'm sure there would be significantly less misery in the world!
And by the way, my sincere thanks to the creator(s) of this video. Great video - combined with this cheerful and fun song you can't help feeling a little better. Everyone should have this one on a playlist.
I likes this! I remember seeing them at City University. That's when the band came on a sang for half an hour - twice - then went home. Money for old roap!
Ah..! Memories. This was a favourite of mine when I was little, and er, still is. <3
