Here's some historical facts. After much diplomatic envoys to plea the King of Spain to liberate PR into an autonomous nation the King agreed. As the transition to Spanish colony to nation was smoothly switching the Cubans hated and had a revolution. This rebellion got the USA involved which sold PUERTO RICO to USA in Treaty of Paris of 1898.
And now we here with broken promises and a lot of irony.

The USA is so terrible that in the last election the people of Puerto Rico voted 98.5% to either keep their associated status with the USA or become a State of the USA. The anti American pro independence party of Puerto Rico did not even get enough votes to qualify....Why is that????
@lakazev That is due to the COLONIZED mentality that many Puerto Ricans have. They have been told for so long that if they were to become independent it would be even worse of economically. And that it would be like Dominican Republic, or Cuba, or worse. Independence is seen as the most radical idea in Puerto Rico. If you want Independence, the majority of Puerto Ricans think your CRAZY or a "Communist" and that scares the crap out of them. Most Puerto Ricans don't know their own history.
Plz liberate Puerto Rico. Spain promised our freedom from their hold but sold us to USA thanks to Cuba's coup'd tat; which lead to the Spainsh-American war.
Nothing but hell has been associated with USA involvement worldwide but P.R has suffered worse than Iraq and anywhere else for the longest. They send their assassins [law enforcement] to murder the innocent and reward the guilty.
Worse is the fact how they train our men and women to kill each other as "cops".
@hanzotk You can't blame the Cubans for FIGHTING for their INDEPENDENCE, but you can blame Puerto Ricans for NOT fighting and welcoming the invading U.S. Marines when they landed in Guanica during the Spanish-American War which was REALLY the CUBAN-SPANISH War for Cuban INDEPENDENCE. The U.S. WANTED To get involved so that they can acquire both Cuba and Puerto Rico, BUT because CUBA fought (armed struggle) they had to treat Cuba different - Platt Amendment.

@BXGUY73 That's about the stupidest thing i heard today so far. The fucking bastards, aka Cubans, didn't fought their independence alone. Matter in fact, it was a planned rebellion that Puerto Rico independents INSTIGUED on behalf the Cubans. There's not enough text privilege to explain the whole thing, but Cubans BACKSTAB us you ignorant bastard.
@hanzotk I did not insult you JERK! The ACTUAL fighting was done more in Cuba. The U.S. Marines invaded Puerto Rico, so why didn't the Puerto Ricans try to REPEL them? Common Sense is that if an army is landing on your shore and you don't try to resist them by force you are ALLOWING them to come in and take over. AND if they were going to get liberty from Spain why didn't they try to fight to DEFEND the POSSIBILITY of independence? Most P.R.'s vote for the POPULARES (statehood) anyway.
See how retard your stupidity is? You see, I insult faggot gringos like you who do not read my people's history and just add bullshit with no proof. That's why I insult people who insult Puerto Rico's history and replaces it with stupid white bitch ignorance.
You're fucking wrong
First off, Puerto Rico didn't need to fight a war since it wasn't technically their problem, but they did fought in a serious of theatres called the Puerto Rico campaign because USA wanted to PR colony.
@hanzotk Well "Senor know-it all," YOU STILL DID NOT ANSWER why the Marines were allowed to land in Guanica and take control of the island without much if any resistance by Puerto Rico. STOP HATING on the Cubans for FIGHTING a.k.a ARMED STRUGGLE to gain independence from Spain and NOT wait till the Spaniards felt like giving them independence you ASSHOLE! THAT'S WHY PUERTO RICO IS A "Commonwealth" OR "COLONY" whichever you prefer. FACT REMAINS P.R. IS NOT independent, so keep WAITING Bitch!!!
@BXGUY73 Hey bud, you got your facts wrong. Puerto Rico DID fight alongside Spain against the US. Puerto Rico had actually attained full sovereignty and independence one week prior to the treaty in Paris (1898). Now wether by force from the US or sneaky back door negotiations of Spain, Puerto Rico was handed over like the slave that it was and is. Unfortunately my own generations hasnt helped in fueling patriotism. Im keeping this respectful, so I'd appreciate the same courtesy if you reply.
@presidente006 Yes, they fought as Spanish troops in the Spanish army, not as a separate Puerto Rican revolutionary army like the Cubans who had rebels fighting against Spain. Puerto Ricans did not fight against Spain like the Cubans did. And when P.R. had it's independence that week prior to the treaty, why didn't they go into an uproar at how can a sovereign nation be handed over by one nation to another. perhaps if P.R. fought against Spain at the time it may have been different.
@TheNanobori Puerto Ricans need to LIBERATE themselves and as long as the MAJORITY want to be the 51st STATE or want to remain a COLONY or "Commonwealth" it WILL NOT HAPPEN. "SE LO SIGUEN MAMANDO A LOS GRINGOS" Y TIENEN TEMOR DE SER INDEPENDIENTE. As long as that MENTALITY is the majority it will always be the SAME.
all because they were Puerto Rican officers doesn't mean the USA wasn't also involved with the massacre. It was USA's colozination to this day that lead to those events. IT was USA training our men and women to "Police" us with violence and treachery. It was the USA who funded these law enforcement.
And it's the USA best of interests for this event to occur. Peace rallies would no longer exist in PR ever again.
@hanzotk Those Puerto Rican Officers in the Ponce Massacre would be the SAME kind of Puerto RICANS that kiss the U.S. ASS. AND THAT is the SAME mentality of people who want to become the 51st State. In the last Puerto Rican Plebiscite, the majority of Puerto Ricans living on the island wanted STATEHOOD. THAT is FUCKING SAD!!! The POPULARES slogan of "PAN, TIERRA, Y LIBERTAD" still has NOT reached the "LIBERTAD" stage, and as long as the majority favor "Palmas" o azules Libertad wont happen.
@BXGUY73 No you are wrong Statehood has never wrong. But it is true that the last one was very closed. Sadly most puertoricans dont no their history. But this is be design the education system is designed to keep you ignorant.
@gino07770 Their something you are not understanding though. The long history of national repression in the island. Some people here dont even no the meaning of what is a Nation. The difference it has with citizenship, etc. I think Luis Munoz Marin has hurt us more then help us. In terms of defining our own identity.

If you don't like it...***#&
Viva Puerto Rico!!!!
