  • Alright, I get the whole "debate is good, it shows all sides of an issue" argument. But I was at this event live, and have to say I think it lost something by being in a panel discussion format. I felt like all the panel members were trying to be polite to each other, rather than just being able to say what each thought. I would have preferred Pollen just being allowed to speak solo, then have all the discussion and debate people wanted afterwords in the classrooms and in the school paper.

  • In any debate, both sides should have a place at the table. Unfortunately, the academic environment widely allows undebated opinions. This is a good model for future discussion. Public and private citizens should have a say in the doctrine being taught under their funding contribution.

  • It means something that big ag is finally representing itself in this debate! It means something that they're not just hiding behind the curtain like in Food Inc. and many other farming related documentaries.

That said, I'm so glad a thoughtful person like Pollan is representing me! Wahoo!

  • Thanks for sharing this great information, would've preferred to have Pollan speak solo, but of course the meat packing companies who fund the school's ag research threatened to withdraw their contributions!
