  • @theultimatebohab420 buds gun shop is the cheapest around. I love the p99

  • i want a p99 really bad! wheres a good place to buy one cheap?

  • WALTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Isn't the safety incorporated into the dis-assembly lever right above the trigger?

  • @martinholde No, the disassembly lever only disassembles the gun.

  • Very informative, thanks for the tutorial.

  • i have a p99qa when decock the trigger is not engaged. it will not fire. that the quick action part. with a short pull back of the slid the trigger engages,

  • Greg Kinnear?

  • The "only" thing I dislike like about the gun is no safety.

  • how many bullets can P99 fire before it starts breaking ?

  • @MegaGamerRO Thousands upon thousands.

  • what is diferent P99C and P99AS ?????????

  • @nevimmcconnapsat P99 C is the compact version and AS is the full size, Anti-Stress version.

  • @Speedogg138

    Thx

  • THX

  • @nevimmcconnapsat The P99C is a compact version of the P99.

  • so does it have a decocker?

  • Glad you did this video, I've been trying to figure out if the AS operates as a true double action, thanks!

  • Thumbs up if u learned about this awesome little handgun from watching/playin the james bond games! :D

  • I would add that my Glock 26 seemed to handle the recoil a bit better. I sold it, so I can't do a side by side shootout to compare, but the G26 may have had a compensator rod ( forget the make and terminology). The p99c is a snappy handfull. The only jam issues I have had was due to limp wristing because of trying the isoscoles new stance.

  • I see a lot of negative reviews of the QA trigger. Overblown in my opinion, and I honestly prefer the QA. I find little difference between these triggers and a well tuned S+W revolver trigger. QA is very close to a Glock. Just give me one damn trigger an I'm GTG. These are very under rated handguns. Sexy and accurate. Only downside I see are lack of holsters and expensive mags

  • @ressikanflute Agreed. Accessories are very hard to come by compared to other guns, and more expensive. :/

  • Good vid. I didn't really understand the AS mode until I shot mine. Anyone familiar with a hammer fired pistol such as a beretta, it works the same way, except it doesn't have a hammer. In the military we're trained on the m9 beretta which uses the safety as a decocker. Since p99 doesn't really have a safety, thats what the decocker button does for you. Not a good gun if you have kids in the house, but easily one of the most comfortable grips i've ever handled..

  • What if the P99 (AS) is not coked and there no round in the chamber would it still fire?

  • @orlandogil14 You wont fire a round, but yes it will still act like its going to shoot because no matter what, loaded or not when you pull that trigger its going to engage the firing pin inside. Hope that helps :)

  • @orlandogil14 No, because if there's no round in the chamber... no gun will fire ;).

  • airsoft isn't a toy.

  • @LiamKroes Yes... yes, it is.

  • @thorn115 do people see you as a stubborn little brat??

  • @LiamKroes Erm... not so much, no.

  • @thorn115 Well I do!!!!!

  • @LiamKroes Ok Liam, thanks for your comments. It's probably your bedtime now, so sign off the internet before you wake up too late for school in the morning.

  • guns are bad m'kay

  • Good vid

  • i thought "AS" standed for airsoft then i saw the description and felt dumb

  • This really didn't show how the trigger is reset after firing.

If you could, could you explain how the trigger acts after a shot is fired and you are still fully depressing the trigger? Maybe does it reset to the point you demonstrated where the pull was shortest and lightest?

  • @AngeredKabar It resets to the SA mode. i.e. you have the full pull, but a light pull.

  • @AngeredKabar After you fire the gun the trigger then will stay in the AS mode so that you won't have to deal with that long pull each time. Hope this helps.

  • Helpful. Thanks

  • Dang good video. As I have one of these pistols myself, it comes as a relief to know that someone cares enough to actually make a video explaining the trigger modes. Thanks for taking the time to do it. Straight forward, to the point, and best of all, all factual information. These pistols do not need a "safety". That's what your trigger finger is. In reality, that can be applied to any firearm so long as you follow the basic rules of firearm safety. Thanks again!

  • i have the same question as prodigy. i think it would go to SA because the trigger is already back when u fire. also, why would you release the the trigger all the way if you were firing consecutive shots? ive heard the reset is pretty short if thats what prodigy was looking for.

  • I have a question. When the Gun is in SA mode, after firing and the slide is racked, if you completely release the trigger, will it return to the long easy AS mode or back to the short SA mode?

  • @prodigy0204

SA Mode, unless you decock it.It also has a very short reset on the trigger"the shortest i have ever seen"

  • I am an owner of this gun, and an IPSC shooter. The problem is that the trigger is always soft, no matter what I do. Double action can be achieved only for the first shot by decocking the hammer.

  • I am an owner of this gun, and an IPSC shooter. The problem is that the trigger is always soft, no matter what I do. Double action can be achieved only for the first shot by decocking the hammer.

  • It seems like the AS trigger system is superior to the QA trigger? I think I've settled on this handgun but there are quite a few trigger options. I imagine it's one of those things I might have to try myself to know for sure.

  • ive heard thats an awesome gun I never knew about the trigger super cool

  • You look like the dude from full metal jacket that is interviewed during the war lol

  • Man thank you so much for a very detailed and very clear spoken review which is very uncommon and hard to find on youtube. I am getting this gun even if i have to trade my Beretta 92fs for it i will do it. I held one today at the range and it fits me like a dream. I hear that it is lethal when comes to accuracy.

    Thanks again.

  • ok cool that was pretty clear. i think i'm gonna go with the xdm. as my first gun I think one with safeties is a better choice.

  • my God, i've wanted one for years... can't wait to pack this bad boy

  • great pistol of beautiful design. thanks for review

  • BB Gun. Obviously.

  • Has this guy ever slept? He looks like crap...

  • Hi!

Is this a 3rd generation P99? Cause I see it has rounded triggerguard.

  • Bulky ? That are 605 gramms? It looks a very little big

  • Thanks a lot dude. This makes it easier to understand for those of us who dont have this particular firearm. Do you know if the same trigger setup is on the Walther p380?

  • cooolooolooolooooooooolll

  • which generation of this gun do you guys prefer???

  • @Spec0pleader For aesthetics, I think the Gen1 is nicer. For practical purposes, the Gen2 (due to the open rail, increased scalloping on the slide and the larger mag release). They're equally accurate and durable.

  • @thorn115 oh ok, good answer thx

  • @thorn115 absolutely right about the aesthetics of the Gen1, that version was pure James Bond. Modern, angular, and Sexy. The newer ones, not so much.

  • Walther at present often flys under the radar, likely due to the hype/mass representation afforded to Sig, Glock, etc. Overrall, how do you rate the Walther?

  • @pukeachu I've owned a Glock 19, and eventually sold it. I prefer the P99. Although I've never owned a Sig, i thought it was a nice enough weapon, but not my preference.

  • Comment removed

  • That gun looks thick and heavy. Too complicated. I'm a Glock man... (GREAT REVIEW)

  • @fkk872 Danke. ;)

  • thers no safty on that gun

  • @emoskater1212

Unless the firearm is going to be sitting around in a drawer, or otherwise unsafe situation, what is your concern about the lack of a safety mechanism?

if your carrying, you decock, and it has strong trigger pull, i would say excessive vs a glock also without a safety other than the trigger...

  • @emoskater1212

There's no lever/switch safety, true enough (although there are internal safeties to prevent malfunction-type discharge). Some shooters prefer this.

  • Great video, excellant explanation.

  • The gun may be safe to carry in "SA" mode if one has trained themselves or has been trained to carry that way. If you measure the trigger pull weight it will vary from 5.5 to 6 lbs of pressure, and the length of pull is appx. the same as the springfield XD, glock or S&W M&P models. LIke I say it all depends on training or personally preference, so know your weapon. Good vid on explaining the trigger mechanism.

  • you look like brad pitt

  • i have one of theese it's very accurate

  • Would this be a good pistol for a concealed weapon? I'm enlisted in the Marine Corps, and plan to work in law enforcement one day. I turn 21 next year so I'm checking out my options.

  • @Proudamerican2000

    .

I know, I found retard here a few days ago. He mumbled some nonsense about air and soft... it was unreadable anyway... Thanks God for retards, they keep us entertained!

  • I own a 1st gen P99, which is da/sa. It was my 1st gun and I love it. Very very reliable. I trust my life with it. I am thinking about trading it toward the P99 AS model. But I like the da/sa of the 1st gen, since it's what I'm used to. In the AS version, once the gun is in SA mode and you fire a round, does it cycle back to the short SA trigger position again or go back to AS mode? Also, could you tell me what you think about gen 1 compared to the newer AS version? Thx.

  • @xo3rg I have both a first gen p99, and a newer 2nd gen - both AS style. The 1st gen DA/SA is the same trigger as the gen2 AS; the differences are in the frame (mag release) and scalloping on the slide.

  • @Proudamerican2000

Me too, the other day I was looking for real P99, but bumped into airsoft PIECE OF SHIT. gtfo.

    .

But then I found the real Walther P99, not the shitty airsoft garbage. Thanks God for the Second Amendment.

  • dear Thorn

I have bought the P99 QA. I have not fired it as yet. I am finding it a bit difficult to rack the slide. Actually, its a bit hard.

  • @vik1 Hi. There are a couple of ways to rack the slide, but it's not easy to describe in text... but basically, the idea is to grip the slide tightly with one hand and PULL, and with the other hand PUSH at the same time. IE, both hands should move in opposite directions.

  • @vik1 One way I suggest to some people is to (remember to always point the pistol in a safe direction) grip the pistol with your firing hand and hold it sideways as if you are looking at the side of the pistol rather than down the sights. Place the palm of your non-firing hand on top of the slide near the rear sight and pinch it with your fingers. Then hold it tightly with your non-firing hand bring it up to your chest and holding it firmly there push the lower half with your firing hand.

  • i have a question,im not american but,is it true that many american military men and police uses walther guns?

  • No, the U.S. marine's standard pistol is the M92FS.

Police officers usually tend to use Glocks, but the pistol type will likely differ because each city may have their individual standard firearms.

  • isn't the sig pistols use the same method? Such as when you insert a new mag, and the first pull seems to be the lightest and then others are pulled more toughly?

  • Ive been doing research on the P99 for my first gun and this really helped out a lot. Thanks!

  • @Traxx109 Enjoy your new gun and shoot safe. :)

  • They Thorn do you know where I can find a 3rd generation or a Ambidextrous slide release P99 version in the United States?

I posted in this video couple times before I think and talked to you on Glocktalk, love your information and videos. =)

  • @Forgoten214

    Hi -

Smith & Wesson doesn't import the ambi version. I've been told that the version the Canadian importer brings in DOES have the ambi slide, but you would have to import a P99 from a Canadian gun exporter/retailer. I've never done this, but sounds like a hassle.

Earl's may have ambi versions for sale here in the USA, but you're going to pay a premium if he does indeed have them. His markup is legendary.

    Good luck. :)

  • Oh I see, If I was able to find one I wouldn't mind spending extra for it. As I think it would be a cool addition and I am left handed.

How reliable has your P99 been so far?

    I might just get a HK P30.

  • @Forgoten214

I've put around 6-7K rounds through it, and it has been 100% reliable since day one. NO failures to fire nor eject properly.

The only failures I've ever had were when developing new rounds (I reload my own ammo), but those failures are to be expected... it's part of the process in working up the powder charge levels within a safe margin.

But with "normal" rounds - FMJ, JHP, etc - completely reliable.

  • thanks for the vid, very informative!

  • you looks like at an actor in STOP-LOSS

  • awsome vid. way better fit to my hand over the glock...

  • i still dont believ u saftey checked :p

  • @gokillurself57

YOU are the safety. Remember your Jeff Cooper Rules :-)

  • @merlot679 Agreed. The lack of a manual safety is one of the things I like about it.

  • @mangopoop123

Well, I don't have any fake guns to show...

  • LOL great answer.

  • i have the p99 40 love this gun. do you roll with on in the chamber. i have a great holster it protects the trigger it is the same as most cops carry. A fobus i roll with one in the chamber and have it decocked i think it is safer what do you think. i believe it is good to have one in the chamber when out and about, one of my friends believes it is better to cock it when he draws as less chance of one going of bye mistake., but it can be all about that few second and you life.

  • @yearightnignog

When mine is holstered, there is always a round in the chamber.

  • OK just to clarify, at 5:00 you said that if you press the decocker that the weapon can not be fired. then right after you said there is no safety. wouldn't that be a safety? i'm shopping for a hand gun and the p99 is on the list along with the h and k usp compact...

  • At ~5:00, I mentioned (and was referring to) the QA variety of the P99. However, the gun in this video is an AS; the decocker does not behave in the same manner as the QA.

You could consider the QA decocker a "sort" of safety, but I would not. It doesn't act as a switch that you can flick on/off, as a traditional safety does. Rather, it deactivates the entire gun until it's cocked again. The purpose is for field-stripping, not to act as a realtime safety.

  • does it come chambered in .45?

  • Smith&Wesson used to produce a licensed clone of this gun, marketed as the "SW99". It looks a bit different than the Walther, but the internal design was the same as the P99 (same magazines, too.)

I don't believe they are produced any longer, though you could probably find one used (gunbroker, gun show, etc).

The SW99 was available in 45 ACP.

  • the SW P99 clones are about half the price, plus it looks really cheap.

  • Is it normal that my P99 only takes 12 shots?I watched all sites and theres always 15 shots...But on my papers it says only 12 shots...

  • @SuperUnbekannter

I'm guessing you have a .40 version - if so, then 12 shots is normal.

  • This gun doesn't have any safety switch?

  • @JumboshrmpXS

There's no safety switch or lever, no.

  • My first P99 was the .40 QA...didn't like the heavy Glock trigger at all. Traded it in for a 9mm AS and haven't complained ever since. Has to be one of the best shooting 9mms out there, Walther makes one heckuva gun.

  • no i meant if u liv in a bad neighborhood or somthing

  • good video

  • To the poster who asked about cleaning: Sorry I deleted your comment/question.

If you look at my "full" page here on youtube, you'll find a link to my blog. Go to my blog, and click on the Gunpowder Treason Videos button. That will take you to a site with a vid on stripping the gun down.

I'd post a direct link here, but YouTube's comment system filters it out. ;)

  • y do u keep a gun with u

  • Because I can't fit a policeman in my back pocket...

  • im gonna trade a pistol to get one. love the look and feel of it. taurus is my fav but ill stick with the .50 for home protection.

  • I hope you are joking...

  • stick with a 12 gauge for home defense. A 50 is overkill for the badguy and you house's foundation... not to mention your neighbor's foundation.

  • My brother is getting the p99 on saturday FTW

  • Hello thorn

Maybe you can answer me a question?

Should i use 9mm ammo 115 gr or 124 gr in my P99?

I use 124 but some people have advised me not to use it, only 115, they say that 124 gr can diminish my gun's life or even break it. Can you help in this? Thanks!

  • 115 has been shown as a good round. GO get some quality Ammo (Hydroshock, Horandy, ect) and make sure you Pistol Feeds it correctly (I'm talking shooting 1000 Rounds through it, make sure ti shoots well Clean and Dirty)

  • So you advice me to feed it 115grains. Thanks, ill do that

  • I use 124gr rounds in both standard and +P. Either is perfectly safe to use, and won't lessen your gun's life any significant amount at all.

Note that +P+ or ++P is a different matter altogether; I don't use such rounds nor recommend them.

115gr is a fine choice, so long as it's a quality round. (Marksiwel's comments are spot on). Personally I use 124gr because it's more available where i shop, and the same weight as the rounds I reload.

  • Thanks for your advice. The thing is that i use a P38 9mm and i feed it with 115gr. It is highly advised not to use it with 124gr because of the metal piece that arms the hammer (i dont know the name of it in inglish) usualy breaks. So i was wondering if the same thing was going to happen with the P99. Thanks again for your advice

  • Thanks for the very informative video. I'm trying to decide between the AS and the QA and this will help me alot.

  • I am gettig ready to purchase a handgun and really looking into a Walther P99 QA in .40. Does anyone own one that may give me their own reviews and opinions? Is there much difference between a AS and a QA?

  • i have one and i love it. the only real downside to the gun is this: the whole gun except for the slide and barrel is made of some kind of carbon fiber material. when you shoot it it jerks. the heavy slide over the light handle makes for an off-balance gun. once you get used to the weight its a baddass pistol! so get one!!!

i keep mine next to my bed.....

  • At 4:20 he says "AS mode", but he meant "SA mode".

  • Thanks for the correction, you're quite right. :)

  • Thanks - that was the best explanation I've seen of the AS trigger system.

  • Hey Thorn, I'm trying to find the AS in a .40 cal, but it keeps coming up in 9 mm. Does the AS model even exist in a .40 cal, or do I have to buy the 9 mm to get this feature?

  • Hi there. It comes in both .40 and 9mm; it's 2 different guns however - not just a barrel swap. The .40 has a heavier slide (and a couple minor differences internally).

If you can't find one locally, try the various auctions sites or gun forum classifieds. I actually see more .40s for sale than 9mm. Good luck. :)

  • Hi, My friend have a Walter p99 and he let me try to shot it, if I buy a Walther P99, it brings with it the manual (explaining how to change the modes, and important things)?

I love the AS mode because I can shoot it at 15/20m up,and the SA mode just for precision(head shoot or target center),and shoot about 10/15m.

  • If you purchase new, it should have a manual, cleaning rod, spare magazine, the 2 extra grips, etc.

  • Thanks for the video. It is a very nice gun i have one

  • sexy gun

  • I have a .40 QA model but I'm tempted to trading it in for an AS. I keep hearing endless praise about the SA pull of the AS while everyone says the QA's pull is very heavy. Must explain why I keep jerking the gun every time I fire it.

  • try not to anticipate the recoil.....usually ppl that havent fired guns on a regular basis seem to make this mistake

  • About how much does a P99 cost?

  • Depends on used vs new, where you shop, etc. Expect to pay around $550-700.

  • Cool thanks

  • about 799 in the box

  • looks vagley like sting

  • doesent sa mode mean semi aouto? anyways. thx for the vid

  • it means single action.

  • No. This isn't an AK47, MP5 or M249.

It's a pistol. It's supposed to be Semi-auto. Very, very, very, VERY few pistols have anything but Semi-auto. The only exceptions I can think of are the Beretta 93R and the Glock 19.

  • If i understand correct, with the AS mode is the most handy if i want to deliver quick shots, after that comes singel-shot, then double action?

  • Comment removed

  • Please know I was joking.

  • thank you very much for this video. i was wanting one of these pistols and could not find barely any videos on here that were not air soft videos. thanks to your video its made me more confident in my choice. i have since boughten this pistol and could not be happier with it. recoil is very manageable and shot placement even with shots fired in rapid succession are very close. this is by far my favorite pistol i have ever owned, just above the p22. and that is fun and very cheap to shoot.

  • Having a umarexusa P99 (air pistol) is a great training gun; it has a great weight and works very much like a real P99, mine has a blowback slide, and uses several kinds of 'pellets'

NOTE: IT IS NOT a Toy by any means.

  • where can i find this gun?

  • i dunno

    a gunbroker? xP

    lol

if your local gunbroker doens't have it, try looking for it online

  • I bought both of mine in gun shops.

  • Two quick questions:

    1) What happens if you hit the decocker when the gun is in SA mode (trigger halfway back)?

    2) If you set the gun to SA mode and fire a round (slide cycles) will it then be in AS mode (trigger in the full front position) or will it still be in SA mode (trigger halfway back)?

  • 1. It goes back to DA mode.

    2. SA (halfway back)

  • this video is very informative a well done on reminding everyone to be cafeful with fire arms well done again i know alot about weapons but you showed me a few diffrent firing modes i didnt know about well done

  • I have to own this pistol!

  • available in 9mm and .40 S&W

  • that was actually very informative I wasn't sure if I had a safety on mine or not but it makes sence ot to have one because you sould always treat guns like they are loaded

  • This is a great gun, but I have the Smith and Wesson version of it, The SW99 .40 caliber. It's nice how you can pull the slide back and cock it, then have the ability to click the trigger and bring it into a fast draw trigger pull mode. (this reduces the trigger pull distance by half and also reduces the pressure required to pull the trigger) Then of course if you don't want to have a shortened trigger pull you can push the decocker and release everything. Overall very easy to use.

  • Hey thorn great review. i have a question i have the p99 with the titanium coated slider havent touched it in a while and when i took it out one day i found spots of rust like thing on the titanium part. how do i deal with this and prevent it from happening? thanks

  • The "striker" is the firing pin

  • The striker is actually a second piece behind the firing pin. Think of the Striker as a hammer it has the exact same function, but for simplicty sake one could think of the striker as the firing pin

  • Pan troche zna sie na tej broni, ale po co ręka zwalnia zamek po sprawdzeniu czy w komorze jest nabój P-99 posiada przycisk zwalniajacy zamek. Poprostu mało obycia z ta bronią

  • Thanks for the video.

  • So all secondary shots are in AS mode?

  • yup

  • all secondary shots are not in AS mode, but just single action in which the trigger is in the reward and shorter pull position

AS=Anti Stress in which the trigger is fully forward and single action secondary shots are on a shorter pull

  • It's a 4" Barrel. And no I ahve not had a problem with my gun.

  • Jeeze...complex little thing!! I'll stick to my

1943 PP....but it is a very interesting piece!

    thanks for posting.

  • Thanks, this vid was very informative

  • is the p99 legal in Canada?
