It was all post editing. I just took a tiny step, posed, and repeated while recording in real time. At home I extracted each pose frame and strung them together. It was somewhat tedious but still much less so than true stop-motion animation.

This was the Canon HV20. I've since switched to the Canon HF200 and I like it a lot more.
