I'd love to know who the genius was that told Siembieda to go with Nokia instead of putting a game on the GBA or DS. If this game is as good as most of the reviews say, it could have really helped the franchise expand
@sonruckus Rifts: Promise of Power was developed by a minor software company called Backbone Entertainment, who in turn was fufilling a . Despite Siembieda's hyping, Palladium's only significant contribution to the game was to sign a licensing deal to allow Backbone to develop it, and it's highly unlikely that Palladium had any say in the choice of platform.
I read every book that comes out. Cool Concept, dimensional portals open up all over earth, spewing out all types of alien creatures. From high tech, to barbaric, to magical, and psionic aliens all over the place, from thousands of dimensions. Then its cool how a lot of humanity takes a nazi like stance against the aliens, get of of earth or die.
The Splugorth are serious bznis, alien intelligences with the motives of a mob boss and a roman emperor. Although sadistic, I would say they xcel @ bznis. Blieve me, u dont want 2 b on their bad side. Could be lucrative?
I think the more books you own, the more time it takes to make the character because you pick a little gear out of each book usually. Or is that just me? I actually spent like 3 hours before creating a character. He was disgustingly powerful at level 1 but most of my friends also take 1 to 2 hours to make characters.
old post to reply to but ...i typically counted the value of all the items and let people buy (with some limitations) whatever they wanted upto the credit balence
rifts has always been my fave RPG wish i could find this game somewhere i have seen a few old Ngages for sale but never this game or id have grabbed it
Its a real shame Nokia stuffed the N-Gage platform so badly. Because this is perhaps the N-Gage's best game. I never heard of the whole Rifts genre till after I played this game.
How exactly do you play pen and paper role playing games? I don't get it.
Check Role-Playing Games on wiki. Basicly you have a Gamemaster who is in control of all the monsters/NPCs and set up a story. Each player has their own character and interacts in the story based on what they want to do. The rules and Dice rolls determine outcomes of attacks or success witha skill.
Imagination, good friends, great story, ordered pizza, card table and dice. Those are the ingredients. You need a solid GM (DM if you prefer Ad&D) to keep it fresh, though. And a confirmed schedule of play so no one character is left out because the player couldn't be there. Sadly, card games are destroying pen and paper....
@Pzkfw5 I know you posted this SOOO long ago, but if you're still interested in paper and pen roleplaying games, best bet is to look up local roleplaying groups in your area using Google or something and see if you can go along "just as an observer" or go along for a trial game, and see what you think.
Best way to learn is to see a game in action; it's a bit harder to explain to someone who's never seen one.
It's a group thing one person is the game or master who picks the monsters. You make a character to fight them. You can also use skills like lock picking, or hacking. Most people only know D&D. There is a documentary about it.
Kevin Siembieda itself said that Nokia did come to them about it b/c they were shopping around the idea of putting their game into video game format, and he said they were impressed with the team that wanted to handle it, and considering the final game got very good ratings (some of the best for N-gage and comparable to high ranking GBA/DS titles) its not too hard to understand. Too bad it didnt come out for any other platforms though.
I never got to play it, like 90% of the earths population. Putting Rifts RPG on the N-Gage was a huge mistake. They could have put it on the game boy or something so people could hear about it. Great video though, I've never actually seen the game before.

I'd like to see Bioware or Bethesda make a Rifts game.

@vgmaster9
Same here let's ask palladium books who makes Rifts to talk about a deal with Bioware or Bethesda. Talk about it on facebook and twitter.

Same here that dumb ass. Sony or Microsoft would also be good. But after the movie comes out, more company's will make the game. Just like D&D.

wish they'd make a sequel for it, storyline was epic.

Quite possibily one of the best rpg's there is. DnD isn't bad, but Rifts takes it hands down.

It wasn't so much that Palladium chose to put Rifts on the Ngage as a company came to Palladium and payed to make it into a Ngage game.
