Just to help clear things up. In this video, when his heel goes down it shifts the power to the front of his foot and then adding a bit of slide technique helps the 2nd tap sound more even. So he does use his heel and this can therefore still be called heel toe. Maybe I'm wrong but that's what it looks like
This is heel-toe WITH constant heel up (see photos and explanation (in french language but you can translate automaticaly with Google: not so bad) on my website)!
Amazing , never saw a single person to do this with the slide technic , yes , that is not heel toe , its slide , to do this with the slide is really dificult , compared to the heel toe , im still practicing and hopefully i achieved what i saw in this vid , truelly fantastic
I'm hestitating on which technic to use on double bass since a few years, this one, heel & toe, or the classic one used by the majority of drummers. I'm much quicker with heel & toe but the result is not steady, some kicks are stronger than others.
Any advice on which one to use ? I'm gonna post some video to show the result
@Chapichap0 If you're a speed demon who doesnt want/can't afford longboard pedals, use this method, if you're a speed demon willing to burn some money on some longboard pedals/have small feet, use the proper heel toe technique, if you are none of the above, and are after more complex beats etc, use the standard technique, it also boils down to what you're more comfortable with, your skill, how you play and what your music demands.
To me, it looks like a combination of the slide technique, and the swivel technique....Im not sure if its angle of the camera, but you can see the left foot make a swivel type motion, and the right more of a straight pedal slide with his right foot.
that is not heel-toe is like swivel in the left foot and slide in the right foot which is wicked jajajajaja and could you hold a certain speed?? cause you were hittin singles then doubles and then singles again but you have talent man :)
I just want to thank all the people that left such FUNNY comments! You read so many negative posts on Youtube that it is just nice to see some lighthearted humor!! Great video, but the comments are KILLER!! Thanks to all for a good laugh!
wow... this is what tim yeung does .. actually slide tech for the right and swivel with left... aahh i have been working so hard on my ankle and heel up motion, but i can never be so consistent, plus slide technique eats all my energy away...
Excellent!!! I wasted over a year of my life tring to play this tempo heels up and never got it. My left played up all the time but once I started using heel toe, the left foot loves it. That was it for me. I can handle higher tempos than 200 bpm with heel toe now. For some strange reason I used to think heel toe was cheating, but not at all. Its so effective and easier to play. Good work man!
I'm getting back into drumming after a 30 year hiatus and some of these things either weren't around at that time, or, if they were around, they were only known by a select few. I saw Bonham, Appice and Buddy Rich - I've heard Bonham used heel-toe, but I never heard anyting like this from any of those guys. Thanks to folks posting these techniques on youtube. If I hadn't seen it with my own eyes, I wouldn't have believed it. I've got to take my old legs down to the basement and practice.
LOL i have to laugh at this, for one you aren't doing the heel toe method at all, and you aren't only doing the sliding method, your left foot is doing an entirely different technique LOL, i do have to give it to you that you got fast at it that way.
i think he uses a combo of this and heel/toe. check out the extras on the killadelphia dvd...he goes into his technique it on that. (truth be told its probably on the youtubes here somewhere.)

Finaly someone on You tube who understand realy heel toe technique (nothing to do with Derrick Pope tap dancing kind of stuff).
Compare just the difference of speed and power (and of course efficiency).
let's put some hands, rhythm and melody within now!
Great job!
