Legalists and doubters make me so sad because they try to rule out or over-complicate everything. This song is a beautiful and victorious ode to Mary about her Son and Saviour, Jesus, the focal point of the song. My Christmas wish this season is that everybody focus on Jesus' BIRTH this year and do His bidding to LOVE your neighbor as God loves you. Merry Christmas!

Mary knew she was carrying God's son but didn't fully grasp who Jesus would be. This song is kind of in retrospect. It's a beautiful song and one I love to play over and over again...especially Michael English's version!

I am not sure that Mary could have "fully" understand what all was going to happen. While I am a born again Christain I still do not fully understand what all His birth meant and means and will mean. Of course She knew! She knew more than anyone else that Her Son was the Son of God right from the moment of the Incarnation. This is a beautiful song but it is so wrong in assuming that the Virgin Mary did not know who Jesus was. How could She not know when it was the Holy Spirit who overshadowed Her and she conceived the Son of God (Emmanuel= God among us), who came down from Heaven at the moment of the Incarnation. Mary and Eve are immaculate.

you are takin the song too literally, they know that Mary knew. What the song is about is how marvelous it is that the Son that God gave to her is the Son Of God himself.

Mary must have known that she was carrying God's son. But the impact he would have? I doubt it. Look at Apostle Paul? Did he know how much influence his experience would have? Or look at your own life? How many lives have you had a possitive effect on?

I take this song as my personal question to Mary: did she know all these things - and more - when she chose to accept God's plan for her to bear the Messiah? "did you know fully what you were getting into?" the answer may be "No" but it may very well be "Yes." I intend to ask her that when the time comes... :)

@teresitahdv I'm not sure she knew he would be beaten to a bloody pulp, or made to carry his own cross when he was delirious due to said beatings. I am not sure she knew he would be hung up on a cross to die for all of our sins. their thoughts were of him coming to save them was with his own life. yes Mary knew who and what he was but I don't think even she knew the extent to which he would sacrifice himself for us all. Just because she knew some things didn't mean she knew all things.

@teresitahdv Actually there were some things she couldn't have known. Think back to the time Joseph and Mary had to walk back to the temple when they realized Jesus was not with them. Neither of them knew what He was doing. So there were some aspects to His life she could not have been fully aware of. That doesn't slight her in the least. He was God made flesh, she was still only human. He had access to things of God directly. He KNEW soldiers were coming to Gethsemane God warned Him.

@teresitahdv Its a song. Of course Mark and Buddy knew when they wrote the song that our Blessed Mary knew what she carried. They wrote this song with hopes it would lead those who are lost to our Heavenly father, and that they would repent, and give their hearts to Jesus. We will bow at the feet of Jesus in heaven, spend a million years next to him, and still not know everything about Him. Michael English, I saw you in Concert in Hollywood Fl in 1991 with Out of the Grey. It was after that that you slipped andf fell from grace as we humans tend to do. I'm glad you have reconciled your life and that the Lord has seen to it that you stay true. Bless you my brother, Bless you Mark for writing this song. I also slipped and also renconciled, we are all sinners and fall short of the glory of God, but Jesus is our great Redeemer; in HIM I place my trust. My Rock, My Saviour.

well, it is a hard thing to explain. it's something you feel in your heart. No I dont have any proof I can hand to you, but I choose to believe that he is the son of God. I know he is real because I prayed that he would come into my heart, and he did. There is a difference in me that could not have happened on my own, things have happened to me, that would not happen by themself. It's a decision everyone has to make on their own. Nobody can make for you.

Try reading any of the Gospels to discover who Jesus is, keeping in mind that none else has ever claimed to be God in the flesh and that we are incapable of knowing who God is unless He becomes man and reveals Himself to us. Otherwise, we would have different "opinions" of who God is but we could never know anything for sure. The invisible God made himself visible to us in Jesus Christ.
