I read a comic book back in the 70's that was all about Tom Landry's life and it was about telling people how he came to know the lord! In the back of the comic book, was the "sinners prayer" that coach Landry had put in it!! I prayed that prayer!! Thank you deeply and eternally coach Landry! A boy from Bethesda Maryland!!!
I never liked fans who hated dallas (with out reason)...cowboys are a respected class act...the lone ranger of the south and the west..we meatpacker fans mainly use the word "doomsday"...(viewing the cowboys as darth vader)...dallas never pulled a cocky-rooster stunt like 1984-1985 chicago bears superbowl shuffle m-tv video!...dallas is sterling silver class!
@rifleman522 Can you imagine Tony Romo playing for Tom Landry? I think he would clean up his act quickly and you would hear nothing of Jessica Simpson distracting from the team.
Landry was the Cowboys coach when I was born until I was in high school, and I remember when the team used to practice at Cal Lutheran in Thousand Oaks.
I miss Coach Landry, because he's one of the reasons I love football today. God Bless Texas and Coach Landry.
Tom Landry is twice the man that Jimmy Johnson was! Yeah,Jimmy had his 3 Superbowls, but to live out your faith in front of the whole world as Tom Landry did his Christianity takes a real man!
I think when it comes to contributions to the game, Landry was the greatest. Wins are nice, but he changed major parts of the game. Revival of the shotgun, doomsday-defense structure, the list goes on...
landry, in my opinion was a better coach than lombardi, he could win games without having to yell and cuss at his team, he just stood there, arms crossed, with a fedora on his head and all it took was him looking at them for them to win
Genius is a grossly overused term in sports, but Landry really was one. He introduced or re-introduced so much to the game that is commonplace today. The shotgun offense and flex defense come to mind. People forget, also, before he became the Cowboys' coach that he may have been the best-ever player coach while with the Giants
Dungy is a great coach and a great person. He has shown amazing resilence after a such a devastating personal tragedy. He is soft-spoken and always in control on the sidelines. He waited a long time to win the big one. I grew up watching Coach Landry in the late 70's and I'm sure Coach Landry would be very supportive of the man and coach that Tony Dungy has become.
That's amazing, those clips were from back in the 80's but I remember them like it was yesterday. That was a much better era for football back in those years.
I think Tom Landry did for the NFL what Brian Clough did for the English Football (oh alright, soccer..!) League....both giants of the game, great understanders of the game & men motivators.
Great Video. It reveals Tom Landry as a great person as well as coach. You don't hear much about Landry from the media...maybe his religous beliefs are considered a negative. Coach Tony Dungy is the "new" Tom Landry...soft spoken and a real gentleman. But you don't hear that much about Coach Dungy either....same reason? Hmmmm.....
Jerry Jones is gonna rot in hell.

@generationll, wrestler Bobby Duncum Jr. died only two weeks after Landry; ironically, they both played for the same college (University Of Texas).

Tom Landry was one of the classiest, if not the classiest person in the history of the NFL.

I miss Tom Landry.
He was all class and he gave life his all.
Tom put God first and the rest fell into place.
As a coach, he knew football and knew that brains and hard work were what put you on top.
The Dallas Cowboys were on top a lot.
Thank you.

In Texas we have a chain of command
01.) God
02.) Jesus Christ
And last but surely not least...
03.) Tom Landry

I'm no Dallas fan, but Tom ALWAYS had his teams ready to play....and with Staubach, they were never out of a game. RIP, Tom Landry.

Since Landry was so unceremoniously dumped by
Hillbilly Jones, the organization has lacked any class
at all.

tom landry wrote three things on the chalkboard on the first cowboys practice ever.
"The priorities"
1. God
2. Family
3. Footbal
the funny thing is that Bob Lilly later wrote that he told himself right then that "Man, were not gonna win a game"

Don't ever compare Dungy to Landry. Dungy will never be able to be comparable to Tom Landry. Only coach that is comparable is Vince Lombardi.
