  • It's unbelievable what idiots end up in politics.

  • the reason that happened id phill grams bill that deregulated banking and the other bills that destroyed us all you a idiot peter Ur just a dick

  • DODD's DUMPED! BLOCK BLUMY. Come see Peter Schiff speak at the TAX DAY RALLY in Greenwich Thursday, April 15th. It runs from 5-7:30.

  • Dodd/Obama know they can not win against Schiff, Simmons, McMann or Alpert..

    Go SCHIFF!!!!

  • So I wonder what Obama promised Dodd to retire? Abasssador to Ireland perhaps?

  • In the spring Connecticuts lawns will be in bloom....not with daffodils, not with dandilions.....but with Dump Dodd yard signs.

  • I am going to work for Dodd's reelection for the first time. He has done an incredible job on Health Care. He has saved many CT jobs. He answered the Republican lies about Health Care today in the Senate. So glad someone is standing up and calling them what they really are.

  • Obama shows his colors (red), again. He invited the labor unions and academia to the "jobs" summit, but he didn't invite the National Chamber of Commerce, -the largest representation of real job creation. The government is full of people who never have operated their own business, in fact Charlie Rangel can't even balance his own checkbook. We can get rid of these idiots starting on the local front. Dump Dodd!

  • Dodd's a fool...showed it again today during his opener with Bernanke

  • Can't take anyone seriously who censors comments. Sorry dude.

  • Who censored? Are you saying Schiff censored Itlblugrl?

It says "Comment removed by AUTHOR"...as in the person who wrote the comment removed it.

    Itlblugrl removed her own comment.

  • doh! you're right.

  • theguru: This isn't the only post that censors..try Obama, Dodd, or any political poster. I am sick of Dodd..an elitist. I'll give Schiff a try and if he doesn't represent US, and if he supports the unions who are fleecing US, I will send his ass packing too. We need good people..not Dodd or Lieberman or any of these hacks who have been in office too long. Term limits for all! Dump Dodd.

  • if anyone has the swine flu,to get 5 days off and not get fired, you have to go to the doctor and pay for your visit,he is wrong on this issue.

No company will not just give you five days(except for vacation) off without any proof of the reason.

  • @MrTabby5000 It really is that easy...especially if the taxpayers will cover the bill.

  • @alex3914

Oh I guess I misunderstood,I dont live in conneticut,It must be a local state thing.

But there must be provision to prove that you are sick, though.

  • They said Rand Paul is leading in the polls in KY... Go Peter!

  • "We need protection from Chris Dodd".. double double LMFAO!!

  • chris "truth squad" dodd-textbook example of a

    P R O S T I T I C I A N

isn't he the prick who denied protecting AIG bonuses on monday, then on tuesday had to backtrack after he was

    busted by a youtube video?

  • go Schiff!!

  • i do, however, listen very closely to what Mr. Schiff says. Good man.

  • thank you for your insights shifty schiff....

  • go and subscribe and become friends and watch my videos

  • These are what I believe in.

    Right to Free Speech

Right to Keep and Bear Arms

    Limited Government

    State's Right to Govern

    Low Taxes

    Individual Rights

Does Peter Schiff believe in any or all of these values?

  • all.

lol @ "we need protection from Dodd!"

Always insightful and entertaining Peter. Thank you.

  • Are you from Connecticut?

  • nah. in hind sight my comment looks sarcastic. it is not.

  • he looks like bill mahers brother. . .

how any ronald mc donalds could that ho possibly have solicited?

  • he's a follower of Ayn Rand. So was Greenspan lol. That's the problem with these guys. They're very logical but they come from a viewpoint that is very self-serving and selfish. The whole problem was the deregulation of the massive derivatives market. Who's fault was it, the followers of free market economics, who believe that things like fraud and risky investing will be handled by the market. Well clearly this didn't work. Basically I feel like Schiff and others like Jim Rogers are wishy washy

  • what's funny is that Schiff and Rogers absolutely love China and Asia in general in terms of economic policy and yet they're against strong government regulation...well that's kind of hypocritical since countries like China have a much bigger central power who regulate everything. To be honest I don't know who to turn to for the right answers. I see problems on every side. Dems, Repubs, Libertarians...the whole world is basically screwed no matter whose in power.

  • lets draft

judge andrew napolitano 2012 . who is with me ?

  • napolitano/schiff 2012

  • LOL, yeah thats the winning ticket you MORON. LOL

  • I liked him better before he was a politician

  • Dodd's the problem - Not the solution. Throw out ALL the BUMS!

  • btw 'lizardgizard', feel free to stay out of American politics you fucking meaningless goddamn Canadian piece of shit.

You don't even have a vote here. How does it feel being so completely fucking meaningless to any discussion?

  • @gawtmeelk That's red blooded American Speak right there! : )

  • I know I am so what are you lol. You do not have to listen to me, I dont really care about dumb rednecks but if anyone has money in gold and only listens to schiff they are doomed eventually. Gold will rise in the short term, I agree. All I am saying is that it will not continue but will drop to its mean of $800 and people will be jumping out windows. Schiff will make his money though as he will sell gold before the crash. That is not politics by the way..it is truth.

  • sorry joe the comment was meant for meathead (gawtmeelk).

  • "By the way, here's where to send my check."

  • The mean for the price of gold is about $800. When the Fed decides that the era of easy money is over, then gold will drop to the mean.

The US dollar can not be devalued as it is not linked, convertable, backed by anything which would allow it to be devalued. Now the government could monitize some debt which would devalue the dollar somewhat, but not to levels indicated by "hyper-inflationists" argue. Chances are that gold will increase in the short term but expect $800 gold in the long term.

  • lizardgizard2002: for something which 'cannot be devalued' the dollar is tanking like a bitch. You're obviously an idiot.

  • Find out what 'devalued' means then you will be able to comment you young video game child. Until then stick to your mind numbing games.

  • I'm likely older than you are, dumb shit. Your comments are clueless. Admit how stupid you are and move along.

  • You should look at the value of the dollar and compare it to when it started.

Obviously you can devalue something when you print something to the point where everyone has a huge number of it.

    Look into Zimbabwe.

Look into the history of fiat currency, the use by Romans and Chinese.

  • Well. You could be right but then again.. the long run might be in 150 years.

"The era of easy money" is the very core of the problem. It wont stop from one day to another so gold is a somewhat safe investment for the moment. The money being printed is what holds USA together right now. It cant be stopped. So with that devaluing the dollar, gold will rise in dollar terms.

  • gold has already risen by alot!! how much more will it rise? You know I bet that Schiff wants to create a Gold bubble burst, and then short gold etfs like there's no tomorrow. That's his main gig by the way, shorting the dollar and American sectors. So once he sees gold get to its peak, he's gonna short. this guy is all about making money, he's no different from the status quo. BTW the dollar is looking very good as a long term investment since its so low right now.

  • Your comments are all over the board... 1. China is trending more free-market while USA is trending less free-market. 2. A "pump and dump" as you describe doesn't fit Peter. 3. USA = $50-60 Trillion in long-term obligations = good long term investment? 4. USA doesn't have a free market, heaps of Government involvement. 5. Greenspan broke from Austrian School economics 6. Jim Rogers = Wishy Washy, we must be talking about different people? 7. There are many different types of Libertarians, etc.

  • "BTW the dollar is looking very good as a long term investment since its so low right now. " If you base your investments on that rule you´ll lose a lot of money. Did you ever consider why monetary values fluctuate? Why, for example, 1 dollar is worth 5 Danish Kroners? ´Cause if you didnt then dont invest in currencies...

  • Yeah , I also foresaw the FC, Mr. Schiff.

But my videos have clean audio!

  • its all done on purpose....GO PETER!!

  • You need to do something to get more headlines. Go back on Cavuto and Fox BN. Get your face out there. Make a trip to Washington and confront Dodd with a camera crew. Get aggressive.

I want to see you on Cavuto and the Saturday talking heads shows. Interrupt Wayne Rodgers and make him pissed. Tell Ben Stein he is the worst predictor of the housing crash ever.

Get out of that office and make some headlines. I like the idea of you confronting Dodd one on one. Move for Gods sake!

  • Did you see that bs news banner on Fox that had your two rivals against Dodd and not you.

You need to get with Fox and have them run a poll with you against Dodd so you get equal time.

  • Dodd makes me sicker than the H1N1 ever could.

  • for politicians to be heaping more burden on buisness right now is beyond belief. It realy inspires fuel for conspiracy theory.

  • hi all send your video resumes

  • Love your video blogs, please keep them coming. I can't help but laugh hysterically at some of your comments. "little thiefdoms", love it.

  • more government ... when has it ever worked?

    more gov gives:

    -no incentive

    -bad roads

    -more taxes

  • Dump the Federal Reserve!

  • Schiff needs to get a boost quick, poll out right now has him in 4th place among Republicans behind Simmons and wrestling bimbo Linda McMahon, and some other guy.

Even if the Simmons guy is a RINO and has on paper a better chance in a NE state, Schiff's a good enough speaker that we should risk putting up a true conservative anyway. Reagan could win in the NE, why not Schiff?

Schiff needs a few million for primary ads fast. His Youtube vids help.

  • We need protection from chris Dodd" haha

    best line of the Day

  • The stock market is a crap shoot.Stock guys like corporations too much...stock market guys no nothing about business.

  • Dump Dodd

  • Dodd is now polling well behind a generic republican contender, and his numbers are falling day to day. This is a real chance to nominate somebody with economic sense like Mr. Schiff to a position of real power.

  • Dump your cult leader Schiff.

  • All hail the Schiff!

For every new member you bring under his glorious influence, you get a free haircut.

  • Wow the cup is always half empty w/ you Schiff...

More damage to the economy??? You know damn well that the Wall Street is a precursor of Main Street, and youre saying that the Job Market isnt going to recover under this administration???

Dude youre on the losing end of the aisle. And who is going to protect us from "the government"??? Another government??? Maybe one you create w/in the United States??

You really sound like a Republican nowadays...full of shit.

  • Actually you are a retard! Schiff is a friggin' genius!! You are nothing more than a treasonous bastard! Go to hell and take Obama and his admin with you!

  • EW,

Before you start pointing fingers you might want to research the facts about what Schiff has been saying for years. Is he the perfect spokesman? No, but wtf has anyone else done for you? Absolutely nothing but f"cked it up more. When you find someone on your side rather than stick him in the eye you might want to research some things before you open your mouth.

  • lol. Nice try but even if the government simply puts people in makework positions, that simply diminishes the resources of the economy and doesn't allocate them in a way that is actually in line with consumer preferences.

If government really could get us out, World War II would've ended the Depression...but it didn't. It simply lowered employment because of the draft.

  • Nice rebuttal. But Ill have to slightly disagree with you using some facts.

Government intervention did stop the depression, but the "make work" positions you are talking about were also met w/ Harvard/Government interaction as well as including other universities to establish programs w/in their schools to produce some of the best Business Managers the world had seen, during that time.

Government intervention + Education is what brought us out of the BANKER INDUCED depression of the 30's.

  • @EmpathyWorks

'Government intervention + Education is what brought us out of the BANKER INDUCED depression of the 30's.'

LOL. Way to tell everyone that you don't have a fucking clue. Even the Fed. recognises that the GD was mainly brought about by Fed policies.

  • Actually, no. The fact is that the central bank created the Depression. Central banks are government-chartered entities. THey have the monopoly over the money supply and don't arise on the market naturally.

And no the government did not get us out of the Depression. Fact is that unemployment didn't go down much until we drafted the unemployed to get killed in a war. That's not exactly a very nice cure for unemployment. And the Depression didn't end till 1946 as Robert Higgs has shown.

  • You know you pretty much made my point while disagreeing w/ it.

Come on now I shouldnt have to spell out every nuance; Who do you think paid our soldiers in WW2?? Not all of the soldiers who went over there died so making a case that "A good portion of our poor DIED in ww2, and thats how we got out of the depression" is not supported by facts.

  • Watch the vid i showed. Type that stuff in the URL bar after "youtube . com" without the space obviously.

Yes, the facts do support that the ONLY good thing the war did was lower unemployment. It used up our capital stock (capital equipment was being wasted because it was being used up faster than it could be replaced), and it wasn't till AFTER the war in 1946 when government CUT both taxes and spending that the private sector expanded greatly. Government jobs COST us wealth, they don't make it

  • (continued)

here's the first part of a video explaining (it's in 5 parts, but it's well worth the watch)

    watch?v=qBrs4c7ayDk

  • Schiff says a lot of smart things but I was also like: "WHAT?!" when he blamed rising educational levels for the problems of the average American today...

  • What´s your saying?

We have "to make the goat the gardener"...

  • wow 5 guaranteed sicks days for h1n1. what a scam

  • Dodd understands human nature perfectly, he can buy himself re-election with stupid gifts to the sheep like 5 days off. They will vote for him forever, nobody cares what the ramifications are, they grab what welfare they can today and who cares about tomorrow..Classic liberalism. Buy elections with welfare.

  • Comment removed

  • Peter always just perfectly tells how it works. Attack more people Peter, so you get some more media attention. :D

If Peter will not win the elections, I will loose all hope in humanity.

  • So Dood is trying to save his political ass by proposing more government!! DAMN-IT, DODD--GET THE HELL OUT.

  • Way to call em Pete.

  • "We need protection from Chris Dodd" Spot on Peter!

  • Remember that democraps lack any logic in their ideas as they are all about pandering to people's emotions, and once people fall it, they pull the rug out and do the opposite of what they promised. Look at Oblama, he's the biggest pandering liar the world has ever seen! Pelousy is a loon, so whatever she says has no meaning to begin with.

  • Schiff will just stomp Dodd - can't wait. Dodd is a crook and very dangerous.

  • lenny380, tried to hit up thumb and accidentally hit down! sorry!! Thumbs up!

  • HAH no problem - hit 4 stars, will have to come back with 5. Peter is just making so much sense; makes the current crop of inept loons look so bad.

  • maybe he should slow down a bit. that lips smacking he keeps doing is just un-nerving

  • dump dodd.... the career politician is fucking shit up

  • RIGHT ON Peter.........I love the campaign slogan "DUMP DODD"

  • A 5 day pay leave plus 2 week ends is 9 days. If many people decide to take it at the same time before a holiday, this could be disastrous!

  • point taken.

how do we break up these too big to fail companies now? If not with government how about people power?

I don't buy the whole h1n1, but you'll need a doctors note to get the 5 days. BTW if you haven't seen anyone with h1n1, It's really a tough illness to fake.

and for those who would try and fake it, kinda confirms what I've been saying here since you started this channel, men are not angels

  • its like our FDA governing the rotten foods out there and then the Health Care reform bill coming to save us...

  • Peter, I love ya but please hire a better videographer. If you want to run for senate you're going to have to look better on screen. Better yet, fly me out and I'll do it for free.

  • The more I listen to Peter Schiff, the more EVERYTHING makes sense!!

    Peter Schiff for Senate! 2010

  • HELL YA NO VACCINES

  • While Dodd offering paid sick leave for sick people is absolutely retarded.... its quite obvious why he is doing it... people are morons and will love it

  • I wonder how it is retarded? What is retarded about supporting quarantines? The message is total nonsense put here for political reasons. You can put simple controls in place to prevent a wide-spread fraud, and Peter knows it. Peter also knows that economy will suffer a lot more if a sick person shows up at work and passes virus on to all his colleagues and clients. Paying 1 person off to stay at home is a lot cheaper than having entire factory sick for a week.

  • Ummmmm...so you know how Hitler came to power? Through the rules that governed the land.....if government is limited, so will be the power. Remember, what the government can give you, it can also take away (especially in a crisis).

  • Depending on the intent, there will always be such analogies. What Hitler has to do with that? Oh, yeah, the power of government. I can give you an equally stupid example - Russia in 90s and anarchy, where people began killing each other since there were no government. Should we use it as an example whenever government power is to be reduced? Perhaps, but it will be equality stupid as screaming "Hitler" where government's power increases.

  • Comment removed

  • Russia is not good example. Government was criminal and people were very poor and there is also strict gun control so people couldn't protect themselves.

  • tommy6238..... Russia is a perfect example now, because Oblama is heading us that same way!

  • How is it not a good example?

It is not just a good example, it is valid.

Is there some compelling reason that when the US travels the same path that others have already taken we will come to a different set of outcomes?

Gun control Laws ABOUND among the States.

Socializing costs and mandating participation is the word of the day.

Turning Adm David Farragut's words on their head we now have Damn Liberty! Full speed ahead.

  • And it's funny how people suddenly see government taking over anywhere. During Bush's years, the government was eavesdropping on your Internet and phones, checked your banking accounts as they wished, detained, deported and kidnapped people without any reason for doing so. Everyone was OK with that. However, when a sick leave regulation is proposed now, we all suddenly noticed the expanding government.

  • Comment removed

  • You are talking about the people on both sides that judge merit based on a letter beside a politicians name. The good news is that people can change. While some will continue the left/right paradigm, a lot of folks are waking up. Keep educating the people, Liberty is worth it. I woke up, but I was once ignorant ...as ignorant as the rest, and now I seek independence from the central planners in both parties. I had already started waking up, but Ron Paul helped open my eyes in 2007.

  • Comment removed

  • Many of not only noticed these intrusions of government during the Bush years, we lamented quite loudly over them.

Were you sleeping? Or are you just trolling for attention.

  • Absolutely brilliant analysis!!! Been watching this guy from Ireland he is awesome. He understands economics baby!!!

  • The H1N1 message doesn't make sense. A person who knows that he will lose paycheck for not coming to work will show up sick, passing the virus around to co-workers and customers. Sick people should be quarantined and kept away from any interactions with others. Do you want to be served at a fast-food joint by a person with a sever case of H1N1 or spend an hour or two in a small meeting room with him? The management of sick-leaves can be achieved by proper documentation from doctors.

  • I agree productivity will decrease if folks come to work ill. We are not allowed to work if we have a temp, but no one plays sick police. We did that before H1N1. With all the sanitation and knowledge, gvmt quarantine is not necessary. People should know better & stay home if they are sick else they risk being sent home. I know some folks that have had their children stay with relatives while they were contagious. Protocols have always been in place if you get so sick that you get hospitalized.

  • In every civilized country people are entitled to sick leaves. However, you don't see Canadians, Germans or British skipping work just because they can. What Peter describes is nonsense. Entire county will not call in sick, and there are simple measures that can help minimize fraud. However, if people will lose money because of their absence from work, they will drag themselves there as soon as they can half-walk, spreading germs around. Peter's message defies logic and reason.

  • I think the right to sick leave is a contract between you and your employer, and most jobs already have leave. The point is gvmt is inefficient, and they seem to have got folks brainwashed to the irony that the gvmt is the solution to the problems they created. I was tempted to have a knee jerk reaction, but I watched it again and he just got on a roll, and is likely reading these comments for feedback. It is the gvmts place to regulate the private contracts, not mandate things that hurt growth.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh please.

A virus who's vectors of distribution include the standard flu vaccine that has been advised for the most vulnerable for years.

Save your histrionics for the family or others who have little choice in listening to you.

  • Peter has absolutely no ulterior motive to be in politics. Why would any sane, successful person want to enter the world of politics? Well, I can tell you it is not to pursue a career in public service. More likely, he has a son whom he probably would like to preserve the same American liberties most of us enjoy. Big government makes it much easier for government to usurp power in a time of crisis. Peter simply sees the crisis coming and is doing what he can to protect our freedom.

  • dylan14570, neither you nor I know his motives, and I rather not speculate on what they are. Peter may see the crisis coming. Initially, I was excited to see him running for Senate. Now, after listening to his recent post like on education and H1N1 today, I started getting a sense that he will be just a right-wing hawk, who will bend the reality for political gains (why else these messages appeared in a form they did). So personally, I am treating his candidacy with caution now.

  • Well, fortunately, we still have the freedom to express our opinion. By the way, I think I heard he has hardly voted before and is more of a libertarian running on a Republican ticket, totally not a right winger.

  • Agreed on the freedom part.

My impression of Peter was the same - a libertarian running on a Republican ticket. His recent posts changed it.

  • Comment removed

  • As stated in an earlier post, this idea of separation is incorrect; fascism is a form of socialism. That being said, fascism is the combination of the extremes of our each of our parties. Fascism has to have socialism in place to come into power; there is a symbiotic relationship. It is imperative both parties defend limited government in order to protect our freedom. Everything else is right and left.

  • He is trying to win the Republican primary, and I also noticed his tone change, but not to compromise anything. He simply believes in self responsibility and is starting to engage the public.

  • If the tone change is to appeal to Republicans, then I can understand his goal. However, it compromises his integrity, as logic and reason are dismissed in the name of politics. If Peter can freely lean in different direction just to appeal to the mood of electorate, then he is the same as every other politician.

  • I don't see compromised integrity. He understands that the Republican nomination is going to be more difficult than debating Dodd. Rather than compromise or change direction, it seems to me he is trying to appeal to the Republicans in his state and win on his logic and reason. While the neocons use rhetoric to get elected and do what they want, I hear Schiff simply saying that gvmt mandates are not the rout. The most important thing we can do is provide constructive criticism as he is reading.

  • I see no change in the aim, as he correctly pointed out these regulations and mandates are why less new business startup, and big corporations buy everybody, or we have to send manufacturing elsewhere where the work environment is worse. He is still pointing out the irony of the logic behind these regulations. At any rate, he is not a politician, and any help we can give him helps.

  • GREAT point about the hn1n

  • In Norway we have paid sickleave, lawfully up to 3 days in a row (without need to visit doctor), we can do this 4 times a year (12 days).

But many bigger firms have far better deals, such as for instance 30 days sickleave without doctor (but no more than 3 in a row without doctor visit).

In little Norway we have 340 000 (paid) which are 50% not capable of working or not working at all. And we are 4,5 million people... so it's a huge number for us and a big problem.

  • When I was in Poland visited my family, they said when they visited Norway, a loaf of bread was around 2 dollars if I remember correctly. That was 3 or 4 years ago, can you verify the accuracy of this statement? I know Europe in general is VERY overpriced. Is it the burdensome taxation, and I guess another cost of sick leave?

  • Well, I think a regular price for bread in Norway is about 16-20 NOK (2.8-3.6 dollars).

I myself often buy bread which costs 20-30 NOK, but you can as well achieve to get a bread for 4 NOK (depends on which store chain and focus they have).

If Europe is overpriced, we in Norway are luxury priced, hehe... but we do have wages that's ok, I think ...

We have a high cost system (high salaries makes high costs of course and high living)...

I think we are in a way America 2, hehe...

  • dreylos, you guys are doing great, i heard ireland is too. Even though your country is very socialist already, I bet the socialists will try to restrict economic freedom even more, hopefully you can stop them and keep the good times going. Fingers crossed that we in the US will be back on top per capita soon, it's hard with a huge population!

  • yah but I would still take the five days off...I mean c'mon. You give people a break and you think they arent going to take it?

  • Chris Dodd will retire a wealthy man and guess what do you think he'll care when he's living "somewhere nice"with his coffers full of cash..Please listen to Peter it has to be the greater good for the greater number !!

  • great vid!

  • faithnotneeded, I'll disregard your wonderful nickname and scold you for being so naive and having religious faith in a vague concept like the "free market". HMOs are an unnecessary middle man, but they're not the only reason health care is so expensive. Most of the cost comes from expensive hospitals and expensive drugs. No middle men - just unregulated businesses charging whatever they want from patients who are too sick and immobile to look for cheaper alternatives.

  • So the government will make everything cheap - like it always does, right? Like the famous Iraq $3000 hammers. Please. Wherever government is involved costs sky-rocket - why? The government has no accountability as it is the one setting laws and controlling the means of repression. You can't do much to it. Competition is ALWAYS the only reason prices fall and choice grows.

  • In a regulated market competition is sin (Rockeffeler's quote) and monopolies are always created and kept up by governments, whether they be private or "public" monopolies.

  • How incredible that a slimy monopoly holder like Rockefeller, from a dynasty of slimy monopoly holders would say something so slimy. This is a quote from J.M. Keynes: "Capitalism is the astounding belief that the most wickedest of men will do the most wickedest of things for the greatest good of everyone."

  • He was only slimy because he was enabled in his monopoly by the government. Research your history, instead of being a brain dead repeater drone. I am afraid you take waaaaay too many "ideas" you regurgitate for granted. It is curious you quote Keynes - the most brain dead "economist" and statist of all times.

  • grumpone, think for a moment. Monopolies become monopolies regardless of government help. Competition will eventually end in dominance of one company, or a gang of companies over all the rest. In fact, corporations spend tons of money lobbying the government NOT to regulate them, in order to sustain or gain a monopoly. So if you think regulation makes a monopoly, you've got the whole world upside down, my friend.

  • What do you think motivates politicians? Are they free from the greed that drives the rest of the citizenry?

  • Wrong. You are the one upside down. Come join the right-side uppers!

  • juu, you have no idea how regulation and competition work or how monopolies and corporations form. Regulation always benefits the largest and most well funded, and kills off the smaller competitors. Real competition always has new players. Corporations form because of government interference in the market, like Government contracts and loans. Favorable rights granted to corporations by the government form monopolies, because they inhibit or kill competition.

  • I love when people bring up Keynes, I mean, his economic philosophy was discredited over 30 years ago. People still follow it though for some reason.

  • They bring it up and it continues is because it allows government to step in the economy. In a free market approach they wouldnt be able to regulate and push socialist programs. Keynes gives them the air of "creditability" to be able to feed these nonsensical programs on the public.

  • When Nixon abandoned Gold standard in 71 he said 'we're all Keynesians now' It has been discredited in recent years (rightly) but who do you say stood up and discredited it 30 years ago other than the great Ron Paul?

  • Fortunately JM Keynes economic theory was discredited in the 1970's

  • The Great Depression and Japan's own "Great Depression" disproved Keynes before he was even popular, lol.

  • Comment removed

  • juu, you forgot the one ingredient that makes all that price gouging and profiteering possible. Government intervention and interference in the form of Medicare and Medicaid. The treatments that they prescribe and for which they will pay drive these businesses to pay attention to the government rules, not healthcare. Easy government money means the government is the real customer, not the patient. Medicare and Medicaid say keep the paper work in order and the money keeps flowing. Government yea!

  • Milwaukee passed a law that gave between 5 and 10 days off of sick days WITH PAY if you do business in Milwaukee. A judge has put an injunction as a Constitutional violation, but this Dodd thing is crazy.

  • Sweeden has a labor workforce of aprox 5 million and 75% work in service sector jobs. Their state-welfare system relies on their small productive sector. They import most of their goods from a market economy.

America is screwed because we are turning into sweeden: service economy welfare state, high taxes, highly regulated, make nothing, rely on other market economies.

    Great go sweeden

  • Dodd & Lieberman = Liar, slime-ball, con-artist!!!

    End the Fed!!!

  • Juujuuuujj, you sound like a junior-camper economic ignoramus. The free market is a "vauge ideal" and a "religous dream"? LOL

Let me educate you: the "free market" is merely the matrix of free exchanges entered into by individuals. So to you voluntary exchange is a "vauge ideal"? You deserve a roundhouse kick to the face from Peter Schiff.

  • Peter has a good chance of winning if he actually put any serious effort into the campaign. Reach out to Campaign for Liberty to get some commited grass roots volunteers. Keep in touch with them, they need guidance or at least weekly reminders they are volunteers along with some helpful tips on what to do. Capisci?

  • didn't he mention like 5 campaign events in this video?

so I guess he does put some serious efforts into the campaign.

  • capitalism is getting strangled by retard regulation. Do you think our founding fathers would have foreseen the giant banks and corporations hijacking legislative control through fear? Too big to fail = bullshit. I'll open up a bank and become a Fed. Res. depositor. I will supply the money. There, now let them fail.

  • well, to be fair privateers and mercenaries were always an integral part of war in history. Even in the Revolution and Civil War here in America they were used. So I'm pretty sure they knew about that, at the least.

  • the free market is not "free" to the degree that it is regulated. Either you believe that people should be left free to deal with each other without coercion; or you don't. The only proper role of government is to use FORCE to bar force, fraud... coercion & to seek justice after the fact.

  • Corporations and large companies cannot exist in the free market, because they are inherently inefficient. It is only with government help and intervention that they can form and grow. The free market was the source of the industrial revolution, which was about innovation, invention and exploration. The free market died in the US in the 1800's and we have had an increasingly government controlled economy since then. Learn what the free market really is before you whine about it.

  • America is not supposed to go to "war" unless there is a DECLARATION of WAR by the Congress. The military actions taken by Bush and Obama are not authorized by the US Constitution, so don't blame it on the Founders. Letters of Marque and Reprisal ARE authorized by Congress in the case of terrorism, like the Barbary Pirates ... Happy Birthday US Marines, who were called to KILL the Muslim Pirates of Tripoli 200+ years ago... the Constitutional way.

  • Oh, war is just a bonus, a giant boondoggle for companies like Halliburton and Blackwater, in their spare time they'll make money in any disaster, like Katrina. If you can't see how the profit incentive in a private army, or a private jail, is detrimental to society, I can't help you.

  • Who pays Haliburton and Blackwater? Who is giving them contracts? And to do what? If you want to get rid of war profiteers then get rid of the organizations causing wars. That would be your govt. Only Govts need armies. During Katrina, While your incompetent govt that you love so much was being its useless self private co.s getting water to the citizens. If you cant see why govt interference is detrimental to society then nobody can help you.

  • juu: Americans are still stuck with the war on drug and over two million prisoners, but it's the gov't bad policies that create that thriving outsourcing industry, not the other way around.

Likewise for the military. I remember there was a featured article on the outsourcing of US military in the Economists many years back in 90's when Clinton was in power. The main motivation behind the outsourcing had little to do with corporatism (at least initially), but more to do with the fall of Berlin

  • Wall - the cold war was now over, so was the need over 1m US military servicemen. They were supposed to take over secondary roles like logistics, security, medical, etc, to reduce the overhead. By mid-90, it was, however, becoming clear that the contractors also served very well in clandestine missions all over the world - especiall
