  • Many thanks for posting these awesome videos!

There is something I don't agree with though:

Contrary to the movie's message, the ego is not "the enemy" - but rather like a cute but scared child. Trying to destroy it or shut it up will never work because it's an integral part of us.

Here's Shinzen Young says about it:

Do a search for "3 Things Shinzen got from Joshu Sasaki Roshi" and watch from 4:04

  • I disagree. I believe the depiction of the ego portrayed in Mr. Green's mind is not a part of his self. Perhaps Sam Gold is better represented as the inflated ego, or damaged ego - but the ego nonetheless. The opinion you gave in this comment may not share the same definitive conception, because you give a spiritual disambiguation. It is also interesting to have discovered Hindu scripture describing the ego as ahamkara; and that the ahamkara must be removed - Young seems to associate with Hindu.

  • @RhythmicMystery Thank you so much for that, I did look it up & it was brilliant, though I found he was explaining how once he got his hit from the zen master he was put into a cold hall/ warm in summer with insects biting etc. & given the experience of allowing him to learn to be in the self awareness / buzz state under these conditions! So I find that in the film above, The character Jake is learning the same process but discovers it himself instead of the instant gift given like Shinzen got.
