  • i didn't shed a tear

  • I love this song. But I've noticed in recent years that the singer (in the tour that hits Toronto) is putting more and more old drunk into the performance. It's funny, but it really detracts from the emotion. The perfect version is on the Dreams of Hope Unspoken live album.

  • @webarnesca I just happened to catch your comment as I was flipping through videos. The man in this particular video is my favorite. I am on the east coast and he is who we usually have, but last year we had a guy with a more deep and raspy voice and I actually didn't care for him as much.

  • @countrygal0831 Steve Broderick is the man!

  • @Masticore317 He completely blew me away when I saw this back in 2009!

  • this song makes me cry everytime i hear it and when i hear it live it is worse i have seen them tiwce and it cry everytime.......this songi so powerful

  • This is the only song to date that I have caught my step-dad crying to.

  • This such an amazing song. Lyrics, melody.....

  • ....wtf dude?

    Is that Bert McKracken?....

So muchhh hotter of a songgg now that I know what he looks likee<33333

  • that note somewhere around 1:30 was impressive

amazing song.. its no where near christmas but i really wanted to hear this song

  • I miss Savatage

  • Criss was killed by a drunk driver. His wife committed suicide when she realized she couldn't live without him. TSO fans, please remember Criss Oliva. He would be proud that Savatage finally made it huge with TSO.

  • @nytnt4u 11 years later she suicided? doubtful

  • Saw them in Detroit today, it was a much, much, better performance.

But this song is still beautiful. So powerful.

  • Agreed kinkdaddy69!!

I've seen many of these you tube vids and they appear to all be the east coast group -- I MUCH PREFER the West Coast group...seen them in Dallas 5 times!!

  • @colehaus1 i know what you mean, WC TSO is way better, we have been going to the shows in PDX since 2005 every year,

  • I was at that bar once many years ago but this year life and adeat will bring me back God bless you all

  • I've never been to a TSO show before, but boy was I disappointed. The first song they played blew me away, but by the time this song was over, I was ready to leave. The narrator sounded like he was doing a Black William Shatter Impersonation. The songs had an awkward tempo and not one person on stage had a decent singing voice. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that the real singers were being held hostage backstage or something. Worst experience at a concert ever. Awful.

  • @meyer1324 you do relize that the song was suposed to be that way right? because the singers like...drunk... lol... and to sing off like that and still keep time to come in when you need to takes a lotof talent

  • @meyer1324 i will admit though that the performace i saw of them yesterday was much better then this one lol...

  • @iwannacapo Did you see TSO at the Prudential Center? I saw them there last saturday and it was a phenomenal show!!! They played "Old City Bar" and I enjoyed the extended narrative version

  • @klinkdaddy69 I did it was unbelievable

  • @klinkdaddy69 no i saw them at the altel arena in little rock arkansas :P, it was a different cast and i think they did better personaly but anywho

  • @meyer1324 Holy shit how can you say that, I saw them 2 days ago and it was one of the best concert experiences ever, everything about it was great, the performers were all amazing musicians and singers, i loved the narrator, the sound was the best ive ever heard a live concert sound and the whole spectacle of it with the syncronized lights just fucking blew me away, i dont know what you saw but what you're describing is not the Trans Siberian Orchestra I saw

  • This is one of my favorite songs during the concerts. Just saw them last week, but sadly, this wonderful man was not there. A different guy sang this song, and to me, his voice was way too raspy. I didn't like it as much. Still a magical show though!

  • THIS SONG IS ABOUT BELEAVING

  • @anne2756 Beleaving what ??? Do you mean Believing ??

  • My favorite song too. The words that make the hair stand up on the back of my neck,

"if one could be home, they'd be already there........"

  • my countdown continues, now 5 days to go, until I am in row 1, seats 1 & 2 (w/my best friend) in Philly @3pm...for the 4th year in a row!!!

  • TSO always adds majesty to all the Christmas songs they interpret...thank you for posting :-)

  • My dad sang this song last Christmas, there wasn't a dry eye in th church...listen to the words, maybe when you do, your mind will be changed

  • To the people who thought this song was slow, long, bad, not as good as the rest of the show, they need to just LISTEN to the song, the meaning of the song should change your opinion, i hope.

  • Love Savatage. All TSO fans would love them too. Just today I jammed out to Wake of Magellan.

  • I have such mixed feelings about Trans Siberian Orchestra.. I want SAVATAGE back! I know Savatage was never the same after Criss Oliva died, but it feels like the Savatage guys sold out. Still, this is good.. ..It just feels wrong without Criss somehow.

  • I listen to this song all the time. A great acoustic song

  • i think this version of old city bar is thw best ,,,,bart is awesome also

  • totally awesome song!

  • Skolnick rules! This song not so much so. The rest of their stuff is freakin amazing though.

  • @tomm120 I agree with you. This song was 15 minutes for when i saw them last saturday. It put everyone to sleep!

  • no no not at all tomm120. I agree 150%. I will be there next year, but damn was I disappointed. They seemed to completely change the tempo and even melodies for the concert. Some of the songs I didn't even recognize. But having said that, I enjoyed the hell out of it. BB next year.

  • Plus I didn't understand their flow. they played Holy Night/O Come All Ye Faithful and XMAS Eve Sareyevo midway through the 1st set. After that, THEN what do you have to look forward to. I dunno. I just think they had a bad day on 12/5 at Orlando.

  • The second half has most of the classical pieces...which are the best!

  • i agree with you. i saw them in chicago on the 26th, and this was the only part i didnt love. a little too long for my taste. everything else pwned though.

  • i was at the same show. second half was the best

  • True that the west coast is better because it has the original artists. However, this video is from 2005. They have all come a long way in showmanship.

  • Pretty good but Al Pitrelli and Bart Shato of the west tour do it better!!!!!!!

  • Bart Shatto is INCREDIBLE!!!

  • just saw them last night. it was amazing

  • yes the best ever im going friday and i cant wait

  • By far one of the best live acts around this song is incredible live seen em twice and will definitely going to be going many more times! thanks guys!

  • Such an amazing live show. I saw it two years in a row, and I'd love to see it again...

  • I swear......I get teary eyed everytime I hear this.

  • I know me too

  • I hear ya Scott...........Same here !

  • favorite song in the whole show. everytime i hear it i just love it more and more.

  • @rustnpiece88 aaamen wait the whole show to hear it.

  • i saw them last night here in mass

    and it was sick

it was an amazing show..the lights and everything

and they did this exact thing

  • I saw them two nights ago in RI. I've seen them the past four years. It's my favorite Christmas tradition. They are AWESOME!!

  • This song makes me want to carry out random acts of kindness....*sniff*...no one should be away from home, especially on Christmas Eve dammit!!! *sob*

  • Thank You for posting this...This is my Favorite part of the show.

  • Definitely my favorite song, it's such a beautiful story and it paints such a vivid picture in my mind. I keep looking for tabs but I've yet to find an arrangement that decently matches the original :-\

  • Beautiful, doesn't get much better than this.

  • Potty break, brb.

  • I'm seeing them Thursday. This will be my sixth time. They never fail to deliver the goods.

  • just saw them tonight.. first time.. great show. AMAZING Light show

  • If one could be home they would already be there. Utterly classic.

  • This song NEVER fails to make me sob.

  • me neither

  • i love these guys....the best live show i ever seen. this is one of my fav songs all time, cant wait to see them for the 6 time

  • sadly do to work issues this will be the first time i have not seen them in six years. This is a fave for me

  • I Really can not wait to see them this December for the 5th time in a row!!!!! These are song that you can lesson to even if its not Christmas!!!!

  • The Trans-Siberian Orchestra are one of my favourite bands. I love them, Christmas Eve and Other Stories is my favourite album. I am also in love with their live show, I just think they slow down their stuff live a little too much.

  • Chriss Oliva would have been a star in TSO. Him and Alex togethewr would have been the best duo ever. Instead he was killed by a drunk driver who had 6 previous DWI's. People please call a cab when you have had too much.

  • ive gone to their pgh show the past 8 years. they sold out every year. so now they are doing 2 shows.

  • i went to see them 2 years in a row and this song is soo amazing live. Although the whole show is awsome live but this one is neat

  • If i close my eyes and listen to this song, there are growing pictures from a nice little smoky pub and i wish i could be there. Thank you for the great song.

  • The people who insist on clapping throughout the song are kind of annoying. However, this song is great, and the only gripe that I have is that the guitar doesn't have as consistent of a dynamic as on the CD, and the voice is a tad loud at the beginning. Other than that, 4.5/5 for this performance, 6/5 for the CD recording, and 95/5 for the note at 1:24.

  • 1:28 what a note!

  • Definitely one of my favs! What a voice! Alex on guitar... awesome!

  • Alex of TESTAMENT...is awesome! Too bad not the "real".. T.S.O. guitarist.. Who never got to play with them... The old original T.S.O. also known as my Favorite metal band from the mid 80's Through the late 90's... The mighty... SAVATAGE!... CRISS OLIVA....was such a classy man... And such a KILLER guitarist... In the "Tage"... In case you do not know... Please check out SAVATAGE... From 1984-1998 at least... Criss perished in a car accident in 1993..
  • u know ur stuff. lol

  • Awesome, awesome song....one of their best.

  • Steve Broderick is one of the all time great rock vocalists.

  • youre right about the bathroom break. my family went to the bathroom and i stayed back and i started crying by myself.

  • ah, i also think this is one of broderick's weaker performances, if any of you use torrents, find the hershey 06 or 07 show, amazing

  • i think this is the best song of their set. everyone uses it as a bathroom break but i love it

i love the way broderick sings it, i hated the west coast version at first but it grew on me. I still prefer broderick but ill listen to both with a huge smile on my face

  • I too prefer the CD version, the voice the song was conceived with.

  • yay hobos!!!!

    TSO rocks

  • johnswencki, have you even heard Bart sing it?

  • okay then people... thanks alot for taking my previous comment as an insult

-the guy sings it well, but his voice just isn't the right one for the song

the person that they have singing with the West Coast tour couldn't make the recording because he was in NYC in a broadway show

  • I beg ti differ with you on that. Steve Broderick has the best voice for this song. He's the one they should have used on the CD.

  • I got to go see these guys for the first time in Hamilton this year. We started off with awful seats but then a couple ushers came up and moved us all the way down to the front row right infront of the stage. and when they played this song.. not a single person was making the slightest noise. I was completely captivated and mesmerized by the song. Truely was a fantastic show and will definitely be seeing them next year.

  • This song is the heart of Christmas Eve and Other Stories. It's an opera, so you need to know the whole story. If you haven't visit the TSO website and find the story for the opera.

  • Quite a matter of opinion (better musicians). If you don't believe that a group that finds its roots in NYC wouldn't offer "The Garden" the cream of the crop, you just don't get it.

  • check it out, Alex S. i saw his trio open up for Rodrigo Y Gabriela. the trio isnt as good as testament or tso. they did jazzy versions of popular metal songs, it was pretty kick ass though.

  • Great song!

  • thanks this is a grate song

  • umm... sorry all you vocally declined people, but i have to agree with this one

  • No, Tommy Farese does't sing it on the CD. He's the dad of the girl who's standing outside the bar. Therefore...he can't be the drunk in the bar watching this story unfold.

  • that is him singing this song on the cd. the first tso concert I went to , he did it in the concert

  • Saw them this year in Sacramento,CA ,this is our second year seeing them. I will see them every year until the day i die. Rich Alexander

  • Gives me goosebumps. Steve Broderick has the most amazing voice. I can't wait to see TSO on January 5. I love going to see them every year; the show is just unbelievable.

  • best christmas song EVER! i ♥ this song!!!

  • i saw them for the first time yesterday. i LOVED them. ive been to many concerts for being my age, and i can say that this is a close first to the best. it was way better than what i was expecting to hear. if you have not seen them yet i suggest you see them the next time they come to your city.

    INCREDIBLE

    -claudia

  • best song ever

  • hey.. you need to get Bart Shatto singin this song... broadway actors tend to pull off the drunk bum angel very well...

hope to see one of him on her soon!

    -friend or Bart

  • TSOvids can u plz make the song that they have on the trans siberian orchestra commercial

  • my favorite song of theirs

SteveBroderick hits every note so well that it delivers the message every time...

Always help one another and it will turn out for the better

  • DEC 19! greensboro, NC! i cant wait. see you guys there!

  • I've gone to their show every year for the past three years, but I can't this year because I am out of the country. I am so sad about it, I love the TSO.

  • Saw them in Dayton Nov.14 2007. Unbelievable! Have seen many concerts in my years. Absolutely ranks at the top of performances I have seen. Well worth the time.

  • I can't even hear the first line before I am crying like a baby! What a show!!!!!

  • Every year when I see them, this song always make me cry.

  • I'm with you on that one. This song makes me cry every year. My absolute favorite.

  • Steve Broderick is brilliant. This guy just nails this song each and every year.

  • I went and saw them last night, (Sunday Nov 4th 2007) in Sunrise Fl/. This was one great show. this guy has some voice and was funny too during this song.

If you can go see this act, It was worth the price, and the Tickets were withen reason too.

  • heh i was there too. i went last year and will go next year. they put on one hell of a show. i actually like the way they sang it this year. his voice was more scratchy and bum-like than in this video lol TSO rules they can make it christmas in july

  • It was the first time I got to see them. I had the video and saw them on TV a few times and said to myself I got to go. I will now go every year

  • absolutely amazing, no words can accurately express how much these guys amaze me

  • beautiful song.

  • hey amboulard,

ur village they're missing their idiot!!! TSO has talent standing up you don't!

  • Steve and Alex are such great guys!!!!!

  • dude, what did they do, boot you out of the band? any one who likes music knows that this stuff is incredible

  • Incredibly AWESOME !!!
