His company (they have contractors from different companies on the rigs) contacted BP and warned them pressure spikes were occurring. They told them to cap the well and redrill. BP refused because it would cost millions to do and the lost production would also lose them millions. My friend's company airlifted their guys out. The last crew they got off of there was removed only 30 minutes before the rig blew.

I was not endorsing the movie, only referencing its portrayal of the phenomena of young attractive local girls near NAS Stations, seeking to escape their small town limitations by marrying Navy pilots. These girls are often from lower middle class backgrounds as depicted in the movie, which (I believe) is set at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island - Whidbey Island, Washington.
One thing you can say for the movie, it benefitted Naval Aviators by giving women the impression that Navy pilots either look like Richard Gere or David Keith. Same for TopGun vis-à-vis Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer; anybody that has barhopped in an NAS town knows the truth is Navy pilots vary in appearance between ugly and fugly, especially those A-7 guys. @bjphysics You don't understand... at Navy OCS there is no liberty (maybe a few hours on weekends toward the end of the program), there's no going out in town and meeting women...it's 12 weeks minimum of hell. And...Plan 9 from outer space may have been humorously poorly done, but it was more based in reality...
I think there is some miscommunication on my part here and you might be doing a Mr. Spock. In my original post I was referring to pilots training at P’Cola NAS hooking up with local girls but I used a movie about Navy OCS in referring to this phenomenon.
I assume you have to finish OCS first then you go on to specialize; be it surface, air, supply, etc. Is that right? I do not really know because I have never been in the military; I work with the military and came from P'Cola.

But they did first use it and for this form of verb the noun form is derived by adding “er” or “ber” to the end, hence “teabagger”. @anonymoustruther1 No. I had a friend on that rig (Deepwater Horizon). His company (they have contractors from different companies on the rigs) contacted BP and warned them pressure spikes were occurring. They told them to cap the well and redrill. BP refused because it would cost millions to do and the lost production would also lose them millions. My friend's company airlifted their guys out. The last crew they got off of there was removed only 30 minutes before the rig blew.

@bjphysics That is the most DISGUSTING movie ever made. They called the program in that movie Navy OCS....whoever made that movie has no clue what goes on in Navy OCS. That movie is an insult to those of us who went through the REAL Navy OCS (it's actually in Newport, RI now, not Pensacola, it moved in 2007.)

I was not endorsing the movie, only referencing its portrayal of the phenomena of young attractive local girls near NAS Stations, seeking to escape their small town limitations by marrying Navy pilots. These girls are often from lower middle class backgrounds as depicted in the movie, which (I believe) is set at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island - Whidbey Island, Washington.

One thing you can say for the movie, it benefitted Naval Aviators by giving women the impression that Navy pilots either look like Richard Gere or David Keith. Same for TopGun vis-à-vis Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer; anybody that has barhopped in an NAS town knows the truth is Navy pilots vary in appearance between ugly and fugly, especially those A-7 guys. Most could not get laid in Thai whorehouse.

@bjphysics You don't understand... at Navy OCS there is no liberty (maybe a few hours on weekends toward the end of the program), there's no going out in town and meeting women...it's 12 weeks minimum of hell. You don't go out on weekends, you don't meet women, other than the ones that are in your class (your hair doesn't grow out an inch at any point, except maybe in the last 20 days). And...Plan 9 from outer space may have been humorously poorly done, but it was more based in reality...

I think there is some miscommunication on my part here and you might be doing a Mr. Spock. In my original post I was referring to pilots training at P’Cola NAS hooking up with local girls but I used a movie about Navy OCS in referring to this phenomenon.
I assume you have to finish OCS first then you go on to specialize; be it surface, air, supply, etc. Is that right? I do not really know because I have never been in the military; I work with the military and came from P'Cola.

I wasn't trying to attack you or anything, I just thought you might have believe that 'An Officer and a Gentleman' was somehow credible. I was only pointing out that it's not realistic, and Plan 9 From Outer Space is more based in reality (ok...maybe not...but still, that doesn't make it real).
