  • beautiful

  • that is the weirdest looking subway station i've ever seen

  • pretty stations! and the glowing arriving lights are cool.

  • cool train, cool station. I only know the post apocalyptic Fallout version, with the ghouls, 'n' that.

  • if there are many overwhelming numbers of black youths (the ones that have long hair and don't care) then just back away slowly

  • i have 2 questions. One- what was the station in this video? Two- what were the 2 lines in this video?

  • I would go back to d.c. just to ride the metro again

  • i had great memories in D.C. i am gonna head back there one day and do things i used to do back in 06'

  • i miss that sound.

most of the stations in dc look identical lol

  • Worst metro system in the world. Most likely because it is run by chimps.

  • @SASAussie it is the worst system, but that doesn't mean that they are run by so-called "Chimps."

  • @marylandman12 Only blacks run the system, that should tell you something. It's not that hard to drive a cart, seriously.

  • @SASAussie Thats true, but I have been riding metro for a very long time. I have seen terrible sevice today. Back then, it did run very good, but I believe that since the whole accidental situation in 2009, it has been worst since.

  • @marylandman12 Yes, with all the precautions and free passes going around the black VA/DC/MD community, there must not be any motivation to provide an efficient transportation service.

  • @Baron2yahoo Learn to make statements without including your liberal bias? Mkay?

  • Comment removed

  • @Baron2yahoo Interesting, why remove your comment? I belong to no political affiliation if that makes you feel better, there are some people that hold their own opinions. It is immature to hold a political party accountable for the words of a single person, especially when I don't give two shits about politics. But what your actions are common among liberals. Sad.

  • @SASAussie I was waiting on your reply, so I thought if I did something a little irregular it would provoke an immediate response. It worked right??? :) But I too am independent with affiliation, although I may seem more liberal, but from my first comment you automatically assumed I was. People with radical views for one side, greatly oppose the other in this fashion. You claim no political affiliation, yet demonstrate what's common for a conservative agenda. I just didn't like your train rants.

  • @Baron2yahoo I replied 16 hours later, not very immediate if you ask me. I'm entitled to say what I think about the metro system. When I stayed in DC for work it's highly inefficient, there are always delays and the elevators/escalators/stairs always have some kind of "maintenance" that needs tending during usage hours, not very smart. Things came to reason when I saw that ALL Metro employees were black. Black = Inefficient "muh dik" at work while I drink a 40oz on the job.

  • @SASAussie It's true, your actual response time will vary, but since you based your opening statement on it; it was one of the first things that provoked your response. General speaking, I don't believe there is a perfect system currently in America. I'm ok with some delay, but I agree with you as far as handling the maintenance. I don't believe all of the metro employees were necessarily black though. Including board members??? Even so, inefficiency can occur in every race regardless of origin.

  • The absolute only reason I'm here is because of Fallout 3. Awesome game.

  • thats a creep fucking station omg.....

  • the subway system in Philadelphia (where i live) is ancient. it was built in the teens. unlike construction now where they bore a our system was built 110ft at a time. they ripped up 110ft of the stream laid the tracks and built the station then covered it up. it was slow

  • @howardkevinm Try the trains on the London Underground- I was on there and it kept stopping before the driver said tersely: "Please stop leaning on the doors. This train is over 40 years of age and is very old, and leaning on the doors is not only dangerous but makes it stop too."

  • I WAS THERE

I LIKE THOSE LIGHTS ON THE FLOOR

  • @dicf21 the lights blink when the train is within 1 minute of the station

  • @howardkevinm i know, i was there in 2008. Im from santiago de chile.. we have a great and modern subway...

  • metro trains sound like they're spaceships in hyperspace...

  • Every Washington metro station looks like that in Fallout 3 game, so is this station like 50 years old or something, or does the roof have same style like old stations?

  • @isokessu its the standard station worldwide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i was there

  • I love the underground) It's good offloads traffic, less congestion, and ride the subway cool)

P.S.V Washington Metro, I was only in Fallout 3:)

  • i was there. im from chile but i have family in Washington dc. Well, DC subway is well, but i prefer chilean subway in santiago de chile

  • You should've heard the SILENCE back when they had asbestos brakepads. It was eerily quiet.

Metro, when it works, is a great way to get around.

  • This station is Ballston-MU for those you don't know, and its the Orange line.

  • I dont want the rohrs to go. There too cool. The rehabs sound nowhere near as cool as the classic trains.

  • @saveus444 The Rohrs sound cool, but they are rolling death traps. I wouldn't ride in one ever again, except on track that has been CERTIFIED to have no other trains anywhere!

  • I love the sound when the train stops

  • those are the coolest damn subway sounds i've ever heard

  • @mfastx

The ones in Los Angeles sound the same I think they use the GE Motors

  • crap

  • i want to go back to washington!

    from japan

  • whoa station ceiling is just like on fallout 3!

  • @zakspureshotgun of course they made sure they used the actual tunnels

  • I can never shake off the feeling that I'm being watched when i got on the metro. When i was in dc for a week, I seen cameras everywhere. I noticed on the metro, I think it serves as a bunker if theres an attack, that concret is probably 6ft thick in my opinion

  • I've been there!

  • the train looks exactly the same as the Montreal metro. no difference except the colour.

  • wat station?

  • i rode this when i was a kid

    it was cool

  • i miss metro!

  • me too

  • Back when I use to live in Northern Virginia I would ride the metro train to DC Zoo and Ballston Mall.

  • youre mean i have to drive to dc

  • last year i rode the metro for the 1st time it started going i fell down it was funny

  • fatboy after you visit dc once it gets annoyin after a while see i live in maryland

  • I agree I live in northern Virginia and it does get boring if you go more then once. Its more interesting if you are a tourist.

  • @PATTON36015 i live in maryland too and i only go on metro once or twice a year but i NEVER get annoyed by it and i was on it just a couple of days ago that was the day when they found the body at Farragut North.

  • @PATTON36015 OMG I live in MD also

  • Comment removed

  • @PATTON36015 well, I would certainly like to visit at least once

  • Sounds like LACMTA Red Line. Creepily Similar Sound...

  • we get the same sound in ny

  • no.almost the same.

  • what station

  • I miss riding the metro. except getting on @ the pentagon from 4 to 6 pm sucked becuase it was packed like a slave ship in there

  • i bet

  • I bet it was...

  • Damn I love that sound.. gotta visit DC again.

  • me too. gotta go there

  • the arriving metro is an old Rohr car train

  • Be careful of the ghouls.

  • which station was it & which line?

  • It's either Pentagon City or Crystal City.

  • How do you know if the arriving train is the right line that you want and is going in the direction that you want?

  • DC METRO IS A FUCKING SEXMACHINE

  • DC Metro! i took it so many times when i visited there in 97... seems like the cars are still the same since then....

  • be careful of ghouls xD

  • that must be roslynn dkfbhdskf cant spell. i was there yesterday

  • are these the ole Rohr cars? i love that sound!

  • its wheaten

  • dude that is not wheaton

  • don't go in there after the apocalypse. it's full of gouls

  • I'd never get tired of riding that, even though I have before.

  • Why is it that your more likely to see hot chicks on the DC subways than on the buses?

Only see wierdos on the bus.

  • Because people who ride the metro have a college degree and work in the government. People who ride the bus are either kids or people who are too poor to have cars.

  • What are you? Stupid? I see everyone riding both. Like you need to have a degree to ride the rails. The buses go into more neighborhoods, that's why you see more kids on the bus. And yeah it's cheaper. Bus I see your college education people on buses too. Your stupid.

  • But, not bus

  • @Inmate527 that is a fucking lie

  • Vote Barack Obama for President! We need a change!

  • We already have! He's already won.

  • @born2bewild100 we also dont need our guns taken away

  • @zakspureshotgun agreed .

  • Awesome train system. Jacksonville, Florida could sure use one like this because it's the biggest city in Florida. But all we have is a people mover that just goes around downtown. People say it goes from nowhere to nowhere.

  • I love the unique architecture of the DC metro stations.

  • silver spring rocks........!!!!!!!!

  • what station was this?

  • I saw this already. But nice video, though :)

  • okay thanx

  • Based on the lack of platform pylons and a quick glance at the shape of the wording on the wall sign where you can see it, I'm going to guess that this is Ballston-MU station.

  • i think it is Silver Spring

  • It's definitely not Silver Spring. Silver Spring is an above-ground station.

  • Haha yeah Silver Spring is an outdoor station.

  • wow GOOD times on that metro, hahah seriously.

  • I love the smell of the Metro (seriously).

    Bethesda all day!

  • Bethesda to Fargaut North all day

  • haha bethesda all the way go red line (as long as its not past union station) I saw a concept design of the new trains for the dulles silver line. sic

  • I love riding metro but sound in the station creeps me out

  • Nice, question: how long is a one car of this train, in mm please?! ThX

  • it depends, on rush hour time the train is 6-8 cars long. on slow hours its like 4 cars long

  • it depends, on rush hour time the train is 6-8 cars long. on slow hours its like 4 cars long

  • @SimmeringGrazPauker each car is 75 feet long. trains run in 6 and 8 car consists.

  • OMG for some reason I just love the sound of the DC Metro Subways...lol

  • @alh2k09.....YES I LOVE IT TOO! I'm living in Atlanta, Georgia and it's the same sound for MARTA

  • @alh2k09 i do too

  • Sweet, I live bout 15 minutes from DC, rarely ride the Metro, but I still do from time to time. Great video

  • i live in springfield but im a bus ride away from the franconia springfield station. i usually get the blue line and ride up to alexandria king street to get the yellow up to china town and then ride the red out to brookland catholic university and ride the G8 metro bus to my dads house

    i

  • i miss dc.

  • Those trains create the coolest sounds in the subway industry.

  • BART makes some sick sound effects too when accelerating/decelerating.

  • yeah...dc metro was based off of BART

  • boo were not alking how great is bart were talking how great is wmata

  • Its actually a lot better than some of the other subways ive been in

  • You are complaining that it's crowded during Rush Hour? LOL. What metro heavy rail train system ISN'T croweded during Rush hour. And if you think DC's is smelly, than you need to visit other cities.

  • like new york. dc metro is much cleaner and nicer than Ny

  • kimioko get the fuck out here and go to mumbai or chicago or boston u ugly fucker wmata is the best subway system in tha world

  • Comment removed

  • I concur or agree for all you morons who did not go to college. Washington Metro is the best subway in the world. Chicago's is old, slow and ugly and New York's is dirty, old, slow and ugly. New York's subways have too many rats!!!!!

  • i heard the DC metro is notoriously dangerous

  • You heard wrong. Washington Metro is very safe. I rode it all of the time when I lived in DC three years ago and I never heard about any safety problems. Washington Metro is the best subway system in the world!!!!

  • I will repeat that you heard wrong. Hell, Metro is probably the safest place to be in the entire metro area.

  • well there were like 2 accidents but very rare

  • I live in Chicago, and I, surprisingly, concur also.

  • briang2008 and StylistecS: It is VERY dangerous. 2 trains collided June 21, 2009 killing at least 9 and injuring over 70.

Just about all metros/subways are dangerous.

  • You mean June 22.

  • Yeah. Hit the wrong number, i was rushing typing.

  • Whats that flashing ornage light on the side of the car for ? I see that all the time, I just never known what its was for

  • The flashing orange lights indicate the presence of dynamic braking (see my comment from a previous response).

  • Yeah it wasn't a whistle.....they are much louder

  • I don't think that's a whistle, it sounds sort of like just the gears in the transmissions downshifting as the train comes to a stop.

  • i believe the sounds come from devices called GTO thyristors, which feed pulses of current to the traction motors.

according to wikipedia: "the noise is produced by the oxygen in the air vibrating as the magnetic field changes (oxygen is magnetic whereas nitrogen is not)."

  • The sounds come from the dynamic braking system. This system turns the electric motors into giant resistors that send current back into the power grid and at the same time provide braking without the need for pneumatic brakes and pads on the wheel trucks.

  • i stand corrected

  • I'm from NYC and first rode the DC metro two years ago. It seemed much more sophistcated, visually (I love the platform lights) and fuctionally. NYC could benefit from the mechanism that keeps your card upon completion. It would eliminate the metrocard "drop" that covers the floor near the turnstile with "insufficient fund" cards.

  • Yeah, we have an awesome subway system, don't we?

  • Tron.

  • Besides it has those really cool sounds when the train arrives. I believe that it's a whistle.

  • The sounds you hear when a train is decelerating are the sounds of the dynamic braking system on each truck of the rail cars.

  • that is best subway system ever not crowded airconditioned it beautiful

  • Ballston

  • What station is that?

  • I love the washington dc metro it is a lot faster and cleaner than the Paris Metro and many other metros-if you go i would deffinatly reccamend riding it~!

  • Depends on where you get on/off. If it's anywhere downtown, you might wind up standing!
