so...in the hopefully near future, im looking to get this and the xiosynth 25, with hopes to do some cool techno stuff..i dont have a lot of money and stuff...and im just starting...would this be decent enough to make some cool techno stuff?
The Xio will work well for techno.., but I'm not too sure about the StreetBoxx. The Streetboxx is s great machine.., but its intended purpose is for Rap, Hip Hop, and R&B. There are a few kits that may work for techno..., but you'd probably have to do some tweeking of the presets to get more techno orientated kits though.
You can make the money needed to buy the MPC..., if you're dedicated and you get a solid base of customers who return.., and refer you to friends. That's how I did it. I was using two pro workstations (of the day) too. Did good beats.., my name got around campus and the surrounding area. You could do the same thing :)
as far as i can tell, FL studio, an MPC and a microkorg is what most popular rap songs these days use anyway. couple of VST's and (with hope) a juno Di and i probably could. there are a group of maybe 10-15 people in my school, who i know are into rap music, and go as far as making rhymes, so i feel i may have a market, just gotta get working on my producer skills LOL!
FL Studio is very popular for making beats.., but as usual with any software app.., you're going to have fanboys of other companies talking trash on FL. I see that a lot here on the Tube. It's a good program too and I don't understand why haters bash it (other than just to be assholes). Your MK, the Di, the MPC and some 3rd party samples would be all you'll need really. Many people sell beats made off of one keyboard workstation.
yeah man i know what you're saying. fanboyism seems to only be there to reinforce the fanboys perception of his decision. you really can't go wrong with any DAW anymore.
the MK/DI/MPC thing really is proof of point that you don't need a complicated studio full of crap. i sure as hell wouldn't want one.
Oh man , Sir Squeak where is cd at? Why don't you have a production deal? Man your beats are on fo' sho'.......ddddaaaannnnnggg they are tight.... I've heard some others but, man you are light years ahead of them......keep'um coming
Thanks man! I actually used to sell beats when I was in college :) Had several workstations in my dorm room and I had traffic in and out of my room daily making beats for students on campus. Proceeds from those beats paid for all the pizza, beer, cigarettes, jimmy hats, and other essentials throughout my college years. In those days I was bangin beats out on a Roland XP-60 and a Yamaha EX-7.
Sweet. Must have been fun selling beats. I've never managed to use any of my work for anything other than my own personal use. One day I'd like to generate a bit of beer money from it. Of course it might help if I didn't live in the middle of nowhere. Suprised at the number of different samples on the sb.
Yeah.., it was fun. I sold quite a few of them. I have no clue if any of the beats I sold were ever used in anything major though. I had residents (non students) who lived near the university even coming to my dorm room for beats. I made a nice chunk of change off them too :)

squeakboxx !!! funnily enough i was thinking of selling beats too, to make an MPC pay for itself, while doing what it does best.
