  • i remember where i was, i was in the bathroom taking a shit and then i looked down and it looked exactly like a browns jersy. glory days are over.

  • Watch the play, the reason the pick happened is that the ball slipped out of Sipe's hand as he threw it. It was wobbly and at the wrong angle coming out of his hand. I believe Sipe intented to throw the ball more towards the corner of the end zone so that Newsome could run under it. The wind that day was horrible and once the ball slipped the pick was inevitable.

  • Brian Sipe was the man,

  • Brian Sipe was one of the greatest QBs I have ever seen.

  • what's the name of the opening song.........it's reaalllllyyy cool.

  • I've been a Browns fan for over 50 years, since Jim Brown was tearing up the NFL. Who knew 1964 would be our last championship? This team has ripped my heart out of my chest so many times; the interception vs the Raiders, The Drive, The Fumble. But I continue to hope against hope. We've become the Chicago Cubs of the NFL, and I would dearly like to see that change SOON!

  • I lived in Cleveland then. It was my first indication that a sports team could buoy a community.

  • res right 88

  • when i was in high school i got to interview sam rutigliano in 1988. he said he was once in an airport in new zealand and someone came up to him and said, "red right 88, what the hell were you thinkin'?" rutigliano said at the time he thought they should take one more shot at the end zone before kicking the fg and they thought the matchup was right: newsome vs. haynes. it didn't turn out that way...

  • At 2:02 watch Dave Logan make one of the greatest catches ever and do it while being defended by the great Mel Blount.

Do a Google image search for - cleveland browns dave logan - and you will see it on the cover of Sports Illustrated.

    Great catch, great photo.

  • they always pick the best music for this game

but yeah that fucking red right 88

  • sipes best quarter back browns ever had

  • I guess you've never heard of Otto Graham.

  • ok i guess i mis spoke in my life time lol

  • Great Teams don't have to come back as often as these Browns did. Great Teams Dominate.

  • who wants to watch blowout games?

  • Not my Point.

  • helmet logos are for douche bags. GO BROWNS!

  • go browns!!

  • Coach sam goes to my church i have dinner with him every sunday after church

  • The Kardiac Browns were good teams but the reason why they were the Kardiac Kids is every week they were playing teams that were as good as them or better.

  • I played for Sam a few years back at Liberty University. Good guy.

  • sipe should've never threw that pass. they were in FG position....

  • You forget that the kicker for the Browns that game had an extra missed and blocked. Also, the kicker was hurt that game and he said it himself years later he should have put himself on IR. Even if he kicked the ball he probably would not have made it with the wind, injury, and the straight style kick meaning not soccer style.

  • "One time ,baby, ONE TIME!"

  • ...And besides, Cockroft had MADE 2 FG's in that very game, from the same short range!! ...Not letting him kick was a blatant lack of trust in Cockroft & a MINDLESS decision-bet they all STILL have nightmares ovet all that ;-bb( ...Way to saddle the franchise with a curse, Sam!! :((

  • Not letting Cockroft kick the winner was STUPID!!:''(( , obviously!...If he couldn't kick a short FG in that situation, then what was he doing on the team in the first place, as a VETERAN kicker??!! :'''-OO....AND, blocking schemes are an integral part of the kicking game, right!!;-b For 2 weeks in practice leading up to the game, they needed to have a scheme ready for blocking Hendricks in that exact situation!! Championship teams are READY for this kind of eventuality & they DON'T screw up:((

  • I hope sam lives on for at least the next 20 years, not because he was a good coach, but he's one nice guy.

  • Man i was little living in garfield heights, and i remember my brother was sitting in the kitchen in front of the tv with my mother, and i came in the house and they were watching the browns and the radiers. Years later my mother said, that my brother fell backwards when sipe threw that int. But even still, brian sipe will always and forever will be my favorite nfl player of all times period. Go sipe!!! I sure will miss sam retigliano?(Spelled) when he dies. How old is he?

  • I would guess Sam Rutigliano is in 60s or 70s. I give him about 10 maybe 25 more healthy years or something like that.

  • Kicker Don COCKroft is the underlying reason the Browns lost. He missed a bunch of PATS all year, including 2 in this game. That's why we didn't go for the FG. With any other kicker this would have been a victory. I was 10 and remember this game vividly.

  • your exactly rite. most people wont say that but the truth is the truth

  • Another reason that is often forgotten to why the Browns did not go for the field goal is that the Raiders were known for blocking kicks, especially when you have Ted Hendricks, who is 6'8" or 6'9" and has blocked nearly thirty kicks in his career. From the highlights I have seen and heard, I think one of the Raiders got a piece of the ball on one of Cockroft's kicks and fell short of the goalposts.

  • I wish the Browns would bring back the orange pants,I always liked them!!!

  • he asked the official "do we get anything to eat"? LMAO!!!!!!!

  • sipe had a mvp award but bernie was the man if that damnn elway would of played baseball we would of got a title in the 80s

  • I would doubt that the Browns would win a title in the 80s. They had great teams dont get me wrong (this is also coming from a browns fan) but from 1984-1996 the NFC won every superbowl. So had the browns gotten to the Super Bowl, they most likely would've lost

  • Who in your opinion was the better QB, Brian Sipe, or Bernie Kosar?

  • Well Bernie led toe Browns to 3 AFC championship games but Sipe won the MVP award. So im saying both were good but they couldnt match up to automatic Otto Graham

  • you guys know all the guys on espn are already saying that the browns will be force to be reckoned with. and teams like the colts and patriots are already taking notice

  • I have this video 1980 cardiac kids adain!!!!

  • One thing that was also a problem was that Newsome slipped somewhat because of the footing down there... otherwise it's a TD! I take personal responsibility for this because when I was in 6th grade when this happened.... I felt that there would be an interception on the next play! UGH! I cursed us..it happened! Anyway, we will never see a team again with such heart, soul, character and GUTS! Great bunch of unselfish guys. These games/teams were more memorable and story worthy than most S.B's!

  • We still don't have a superbowl! Sam coached high school ball before going to the pros and did good. Maybe we need to call him out of retirement-they did it for Vinny. opps almost good!

  • They didn't go gor the FG because Cockroft had already missed a FG and two PAT's from that same spot on the field. The weather was brutal that day and the footing was treacherous. They had lived with that play, "Red Right 88", all year. It just didn't work that day.

    I know - I was there.

  • @JHP19531953 I was at that game, too. To this day I'm still thawing my nuts - it was f*&king cold, especially when that interception occurred at the end of the game. One of the most exciting seasons for the Browns - 1980.

  • i was 7 so i dont rem but watching that now damn that hurts still love my brownies

  • I remember all this. Why, oh why didn't you go for the field goal?!?!?!

  • amen bro. I am still yelling, "Kick the field goal Sam!"

  • I was 12 years old and can remember as if it were yesterday!!! Love the Kardiac Kids..

    PS

    Logans "pornstach" is classic !!!

  • I love those guys.

Coach Sam: Come on baby, one time, one time.

    Touchdown Dave Logan....

  • They weren't the biggest, fastest, smartest or cleanest but man they sure were fun to watch. I was like 10 back then and I remember everyone in Lorain juiced up about the browns. I miss that time!

  • Reggie Rucker, Sipe, Feacher, Logan, Newsome, Matthews, Ambrose,Darden et al. MY Guys. Go Browns.I'll love them Forever.

  • Nice call Rutigliano and Sipe. Throw the ball from the 13 yd line when you're well within field goal range and your losing a playoff game 14-12. As Homer Simpson would say...D'Oh! The only worse coaching calls in the playoffs would come from Marty Schottenheimer, oh wait, he was also a Browns coach.

  • their kicker had already missed two field goals and a point-after attempt due to the slick field and blowing wind, so they logically threw.

  • The 1980 season was the best. But as usual we choked.

  • I wish I was alive back then. But as I live in the U.K. it probably wouldn't make much difference.

GO BROWNS IN '07! WOOF WOOF WOOF!

  • I want Troy Smith, Go Bengals! I hope I am not Blaspheming. Go Brownies!!!

  • The story of the modern day Browns...oh, so close!!!

Damn it! LETS GO BROWNIES! Bring back the days of the Kardiac Kids & the Kosar era!

  • well you know, there were a couple of games this season where i was on the edge of my seat and holding my breath(ravens, cardinals)

well, theres always next season =)

p.s. IT WAS A FORCE OUT!

  • I miss the Kardiac Kids

  • Win this year for the team and the fans! GO BROWNS !!!

  • RED RIGHT 88.
