By using a gearbox. I had troubles with the rc buggy engines. When I gear them up to high (for greater high speed) they tend to stall and they didn't work anymore for a few seconds. To prevent this I had to use a gearbox, so the engines would have an easy job to get the car moving (the first push to get the car from a standing still into moving takes a lot of momentum) the high gear makes sure the car reaches top speed. It's that simple :-)
@MrTECHNICOR I got two of them in sets: 8287 and 8421. If you can't find those sets second hand on the internet, you have to try to find a website where you can buy seperate lego parts.
really impressive! i see you spent tons of hours to make it so good, everything is so nicely placed, i'm very happy seeing people work so much with LEGOs like i used to! Thank you for this video, really!
This is probably the best reaction I ever had! Thank you for that. Yes, I put loads of time and effort in my creations, but I really like building and sharing, and doing so gives me happines and joy. Reactions like these make it even better. Did you stopped building?
@hisgen01 not really but it's been a long time since i last made something that was good for my expectations, after i saw your video i started all over again, trying to make a recurbent bike, if i manage to finish it in the near future i will send you a video with it
@alienrba Wow, that's great. Good to see that this has been a bit of a motivation. For me it works exactly the same. I often watch legovideos on this website, then I get inspired and start building. I would like to see your video coming. Good luck.
Hi, thanks for your message. You are absolutely right, for a legocar, this is quite fast. But compared to other rc models, it's rather slow. Lego is quite heavy and the engines are not very powerfull. I'm trying to take the best out of it :)
It's cool, and the transmission is very impressive. But I wouldn't call it... fast. I've got an R/C Ferrari F1 Racer that goes 75mph. It's funny because it's faster than my poor little truck that I drive to work
@samthekingyo Check my other video: "lego technic rc racecar with gearbox". You will be able to see the same slipclutch at 1:43. I think it is wisely to use this clutch because it is better for your engines and the car will be able to reach higher speeds while turning. Particulary good for drifting ;)
@hisgen01 i know right, the only thing in all the lego sets thats electric is proboly the lego city train sets... p.s put a video up for instructions plz
@coollegoworks I destroyed it months ago and I really can't remember how I built it. I'm actually thinking about making instructionvideos of my latest projects. Are you interested in the 4-speed rc transmission? (check my videos)
@Ariranhaa Yes it was. I used two lego peeron engines on my next racecar too, the topspeed was more than 14 km/h. I am thinking about using more than two lego 5292 peeron engines on my next model to reach higher speed. What do you think?
@hisgen01 Well, since I'm an amateur, I only think that you did a great job on this one and will certainly do an even better job with the next car! Good luck, man!
Thanks for your kind message. Even though you are an amateur, you can still appreciate creations like these. Do you build stuff from the building instructions, or do you make it up yourself? Seeing how the artists who work for lego build, is a good inspiration.
@hisgen01 No need to thank, mate, you deserve it. Actually, I build freelly with Lego System bricks, but I still find it hard to make my own stuff from Technic. I'm 24 years old and I used to play a lot with Lego when I was a kid. Now, after years away from the bricks, I started my collection again and decided to venture into the Technic buildings.
@Ariranhaa Wow mate, that means there is a lot to discover then. In the beginning I found it hard too, but over the years I develloped a kind of buildingstyle. It is great to explore and I wish you the best doing so. Greetings from Holland!
Some components are quit hard to find. I bought a motor a week ago and it costed me 20 euro (about 30 dollar). The steering motor costs 15 euro. Remote controls costs 11 euro and the receivers are 17 euro. Al the electrical components together are 130 euro. The total will be something like 200 euro (300 dollar)
Great work fella:) If I had to criticise it would only be for you to make up some sponsor stickers as it looks like somethings missing on the fairing panels:) 9.9/10 lol
If you take a good look at the intro of the movie, you will see that the total weight is 1,252 kg, which means 1 kg and 252 grams. The return to center steering works by linking an older type of motor (Lego 71427) to a slipclutch (my own design) and then link it to the steering construction. Elastics will pull the wheels back to center as you can see in the movie at 1.54.
Awesome lego model and its remote controlled just blew my mind. You're one bad ass designer. I wonder what it takes to be a professional lego builder, and designer cause you're that good!
Haha, thanks man. Do you know how it feels to be a legodesigner? I don't always feel like building, but when I start I go for it especially in the evening. It feels a bit like meditation so in that moment you can forget reallife completely. relax! =D
Thanks! The steering is based on a return to center principle and uses a rubber band to return the steering to the centre. I use the 71427 minimotor 9v to power the steering, which drives the steering with a specially designed slip-clutch. This steeringmotor can keep rotating while the car is steering, this is importand for the power on the rearwheels while making a corner. Because of this the car can do some faster cornering and drifting. Videos of my new model will come soon.
Cool car, the only thong that suck its the range of the pf ir controllers. Check out my lrgo rc cars with the new 27 Mhz rc kit i bought on the rc-shop. I made a rc-truck with this motor with a max speed of 4 km/h which are pretty fast for a lego trial truck, I bought it because my lego rc unit broke.
How are you still getting power with the RC motors through the PF IR Receiver? Every thing I've tried using that setup works until it has weight on it.
Yes, its a big problem I tried to solve with every model I made. There are a few things you can do: minimalise the weight, change the gear ratio to slow down the wheels, buy new rechargable batteries like GPrecyko (this makes big difference!!!), try different batteryboxes (I don't know why, but one performs better than another) and you can use a remote gearbox (this makes big difference, but its a challenge to make it run smooth and lightweight) good luck! let me know what worked :)
haha this is so hilarious. i built a car at school out of 5 NXT motors at full speed on one axis with a giant gearing of like 25:1 on those huge white NXT wheels and it wasnt much faster than your car :(. it took my car like 5 seconds to accelerate and it almost got smashed to pieces because i was too lazzy to add steering.. it was faster than your car but not much. you only used 1 motor if i saw it rightly. after we finish our school project i will make a car out of all 15 of our motors :D gw!
That sounds cool! I can't believe that your car wasn't that much faster then mine. I think that with so many engines, it should be much faster. Maybe the powersupply (the batteries) is the limit and all those motors make it actually heavier... Let me know when your car with 15 motors is ready and captured on video.
This car on the video has 2 engines, directly linked with 1 axle. My latest racecar has 2 engines ass well, but uses them differently, video is coming soon.
Haha, bedankt.
Nog even afwachten dus :)
Dankje!

grislego 11 months ago
