Agreed. Port Jeff is one of the few places on LI that has some charm, character and culture left. Unlike other towns it has a centre where you can actually walk around and admire a few non-chain-like stores/shops and interesting architecture. It does get old quickly as it is very small but def a lovely place to spend a few hours.
I worked in Port Jefferson for almost 10 years (mid 80s - mid 90s). I live in New England now, but will always have fond memories of this beautiful town. Perhaps it has changed over time (like everything else) - but this was a wonderful town, with so many nice people. I am proud to have been a part of it.
i live here..and its not as great as they portray it as..port jefferson is a town filled with more drug dealers than drugs..loads of herion users and potheads live in this shitty town
Low taxes??? We almost bought a home on Robbins St in 1971. But then settled in Ridge. Taxes steadily went up until they hit $3600 in 1982 so we moved off the Island and settled in TN where our taxes have remained under $250 on 2 acres now for 27 years and we also have no state income tax.. We have everything we had on the Island.... except I can't get a buttered roll... I used to love to go to Port until they turned it into a tourist trap in the early 70's. To walk around town is still nice.
I'm sixteen and live in Port Jefferson as well and it's completely lovely! But Ugh this video makes the town seem like some stuck up little village! "Homes of distinction" pleeease hahah! But it really is a great place!
My wife is from the Station. I've been to Port Jeff many times and I've always enjoyed myself immensely. It's a very cool place in America that everyone should try and visit. They love you and you'll probably love them too. I would bet on it.
I live in Port Jefferson Station, and I visit Port Jefferson very often. I also ride my bicycle through Belle Terre a lot and stop at the beautiful Belle Terre beach.

Where in Port Jefferson Station do you live? I used to live on Pine Street but now I live in the middle of nowhere in upstate NY.
