torpedoes are fired by a release of air pressure, the air flask would not have been charged to the proper pressure(around 1300 psi) for the torpedo not to launch. the torpedo is actually armed by salt water when it enters the ocean so there is no danger until then.

@Eagle1oh7 -- I never said it was an airsoft gun. The launch systems are very powerful, but the FC (Fire Controlman) didn't properly block the air intake when they were getting ready to fire. Hence the hissing noise before the failed launch. There's a small opening at the end of the firing tube that they failed to cover properly, causing the trainer to fail the launch. (I JUST finished school on this. I know my stuff on STG and FC.) STG = Sonar. FC = Fire Control.
