  • i bought this 45 when i was 13,, at air-way for 68 cents .. lol

  • This unique song is so uplifting! It celebrates happy childhood! It celebrates parenthood! It celebrates GRANDparenthood! It mildly laments growing older, but rejoices in its joys!

  • I remember when a young cutsie group of guys in polyester lesion suits and gals in pinafores sang this song complete with choreography on The Gong Show and they got gonged!

  • I have a doll from my late grandmother that plays this song when I wind her up.

  • i first heard this song 4years ago..my husband downloaded this to his laptop..since i heard this..i can't help but browsed and listen...what a song...really beautiful..the melody.. wonderful...

  • This is a greater song than I remember it from when it was hip in the summer of '73! A well-constructed one-hit wonder gem. Thanks so much for bringing this childhood memory back. A "playground in my mind," indeed!

  • how can someone dislike this song?! i think its the cutest thing ever!

  • I remember listening to this song on a school bus when I was about 9 or 10 years old going on a class trip to a petting zoo. This song has been in my mind ever since, and I always associate it with that trip so long ago...

  • To TheZeke165 - The child's voice on this song is not little Jimmy Osmond, but it is the voice of the producer of the song Paul Vance's son Philip Vance.

  • this song is so great its the best song ever thank you for posting this

  • hey, is that little jimmy osmond?

  • This song is truly a blast from the past. I was 10 years old the first time I heard it. Thanks sis for finding it.

  • 7 people had no childhood

  • i love this song

  • this song reminds me of riding to a Little League game in my mom's old Oldmobile 88, watching the trees go by, warm summer breeze blowing through the windows, my old glove sliding across the vinyl seats as we rounded corners.

  • This is the most retarded song I have ever heard. This song was actually a freaking hit back when I was a kid. I had to show my kids an example of the kind of shameless crap hit radio used to (and still does) play. Rock out for gods sake!

  • I remember that this song was sung by Engelbert Humperdink? Can't recall....please correct me if I'm wrong?

  • When this song came out they played it over and over again on the radio till we were sick of it. Now the song brings back memories of my childhood. Its a cute song.

  • Man this reminds me of like 4th grade.

  • @chamberl what happened to YOU in fourth grade? keep that between you and the therapist.

  • @TheYounggiants13 even i get a slightly creepy vibe from this when the kid sings the chorus

  • I loved these old songs

  • I think those of you that see this as a bad song need to go see your psychiatrist as soon as possible. Your mind is obviosly in the gutter if you think this song condones child abuse or pedophiles. Hope a therapist can help you!

  • hahaha I love how he says he's a power seller. Ebay is great

  • My Daddy and Mommy loved this song. It's been awhile since I've heard this. Thanks for the memories.

  • i love this song so many memories im Melinda tacoma washington

  • Good oldie. Many thanks for posting it.

  • The posters here that are trying to make this song into a sexual song or make Clint out to be a pervert are complete idiots. It is a song that shows how a child can dream of what his future can hold and that he can be hopeful about. You people need to get your minds out of the gutter! This is a great song! RIP Philip Vance!!

  • @Caspersmom09 Agreed! I hate stupid people

  • This is legit a rapist song.

  • Hokey as this song is its a great song. Sometimes i catch myself humming this song.

  • My grandma use to sing this song to me all the time when i was a little girl.... i miss you grama

  • I remember this song from way back wow. Thanks for posting.

  • I know of a guy with a playground in his mind.

He's been in and out of psychiatric units for several years now.

  • lol but it rhymes with pickle....my name is pickle ivegot a nickel...reality freak.

  • I liked this song In grade school, and I still liked it. I don't know why, it is so corny a nother corny song I liked back then was "Saturday Morning Confusion"

  • I'm 14 and i don;t see how this song funny nor how he;s a perv.

I met him in person hes a really nice, interesting guy.

  • OMG....this was the first song I remember when I was "in love"..... i wasn't even in grade school yet! My mom drove a school bus and picked up a little boy named "Michael"...haha!

  • Nickel doesn't Rhyme with michael

  • @realitytvfreak it doesn't have to rhyme

  • @realitytvfreak In England it rhymes with Michael.

  • THis song was palyed at my hito Mike's funeral, with his baby photos in the background. He was only 19. Miss u mijo RIP!!!

  • @momwitatitude God bless you and your mijo

  • @wikigirl Thank u very much!

  • nice. my mom used 2 sing this 2 me when i was younger.

  • who cares take a hike you pervert

  • CMULWEE you are correct...the boy's name is Phillip Vance and his father was producer Paul Vance. My mother and he are good friends and she would sing this to me when I was a baby...I too thought that this song was made up just for me...I cry to this day everytime I hear it... :)

  • BTW...Paul Vance and Philip Vance both wrote this song...:)

  • Philip just sang the chorus with Clint, Paul wrote this with Lee Pockriss. The duo also wrote "itsy Bitsy Teensie Weensie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" together.

  • "When Jack Silver gets me down..."

  • i loved this song until it was used in a movi8e soundtrack about a pedo.now it kind of freaks me out.lol

  • My God a childhood favorite. Haven't heard this in decades

  • I know what you mean

I love this song, its a happy song and a catchy tune, brings back memories of sneaking off to listen to it on the crackly radio (and other golden oldies as well) in the dentist room at the convent. I have been playing it over and over again.

Ta much, good old fashion sounds, an oldie but a goodie

  • I first heard this when I was around 4 or 5.Brings back GREAT memories!Ahh...to be a kid again!

  • I sang this to my son but changed the names, to this day he thinks I made it up just for him. He's 14 now, gotta play this for him someday.

  • I don't think that even back then a nickel bought that much candy (or anything else for all that matters).

  • @mobilmedic but to a 5 year old a nickel was a lot of money for penny candy--which did exist in 1972

  • i sang this all 3 of my kids at bed time it was on the radio everyday when i was in the 7th grade listen to it on my red transister radio on the way to and from school all 17 blocks of it it was sure to be on 1 time each way lol tells my age lol i was 13 then

  • @aerosmithlisa You had 3 kids when you were 13???

  • @Raman711 lol no i didnt i didnt have any till i was 20 lol ,, what i was trying to say and i guess i didnt say it right was ,, i used to listen to it when i was 114 then later in life i sang it to my kids when they were little at bed time ,, and so now they know the song too,,, funny omg my neighbor girl now has 4 kids and she is just 18 , that is nuts

  • @aerosmithlisa LoL. I understand. I was just making a joke. It just sounded so funny the way you worded it. BTW, bless you for still kicking for living well past 114. Now that really is amazing about your neighbor!

  • this song was stuck in my head all day!!!! omfg it was annoying!

  • If you don't like a song then don't listen to it!

  • i kno it has taken me a long time to reply, but i had been out of town. anyways, it isnt that i dont like the song, its just listening to the same thing over and over again while your trying to take a test can be annoying...

  • The little boy singing backup is Phillip Vance, son of Paul Vance, the man who wrote this song(I think Mr.Vance wrote it anyway ).

Too bad Clint Holmes did'nt have more hits(not big hits anyway). He's got a great voice.

  • Really? I remember at the time hearing that it was Jimmy Osmond.

  • All I know is what I've read, and that is that the boy is Phillip Vance, who as I understand was not a professional singer by any means. Writer(of song) and /or producer Paul Vance apparently wanted to use his son to sing backup.

It does sound a little like Jimmy Osmond, though, and I,personally, think Clint Holmes, himself, sounds a lot like Engelbert Humperdinck.

  • Wow, I love it when your looking for a long lost song and you stumble across songs like this, the childhood memories are flooding back. And I like it!!

  • I did the same thing...looking for an old song and "stumbled onto this." Lol

  • #2 on the Billboard charts in 1973.

I had this second grade classmate who brought in a tape - it was the first time I had heard it. I wonder where Colleen is now. :-D

When this old world gets me down

And there's no love to be found

I close my eyes and soon I find

I'm in a playground in my mind

Where the children laugh and the children play

And we sing a song all day

  • omg my name is really michael and i just found a shinny nickel

  • I just wish you could still buy that much candy for 5 Cents!

  • I remember this song when stationed in Korea in the early seventies, also thought it was great with the little children singing in the background

  • yeah,i remember the school and the first love too, simply nice

  • classic song. my friends say its disturbing.

  • I remember the girls on my school bus singing this song when I was in 3rd grade

  • This is one of the best songs ever written. My father used to sing it to me as a little girl and now I sing it to my little girl. Thank you.

  • my grandmother used to sing this to me when i was a kid. for years all i could remember was "my name is michael, i've got a nickel, i've got a nickel shiny and new"

  • I sometime sing this song for my daughter at bedtime - I am not a very good singer so I am glad that the song is posted so she can hear the original - thank you.

  • that boy is so adorable!!

  • He puts on a super show, one of the best and most enthusiastic performers you will ever see. If you get to vegas and get the chance he is a must to see. Better than Celine Dion and a lot cheaper to see, He is the true mr Las Vegas.

  • This song was my song as a kid, took me a while to figure out the title. All I could remember was, My name is Michael. I'm now 45 and have two kiddos. I remember the words to this song, so I sang it to them as they were growing up. I can't wait for my daughter to come back from college in May and realize this was not a song her mum just made up.

  • Clint Holmes local Washintonian (D.C.) juts the average nice guy - bumped in to his cousin Roger who's a cashier at Giant Food and says, Clint was a very likeable guy, a lot of fun

  • And he's gorgeous. :)

  • My name is Michael :\

  • this song is so sappy it grabs attention and brings big memories back

  • My mom loves this song

  • A good song--great memories :-)

  • I absolutely love this song. I was a very little girl and I can remember riding in the car with my Mom & singing this song with her. I think it was the first song I learned all of the words to! Wonderful memories!

  • Wow, this song certainly brings back great memories! I was in first grade when this song was quite popular. We even sang it in class with our teacher performing the lead. Artists rarely make these types of children friendly chart hits anymore.

Thank you for bringing back the memories of my lost childhood days!

    SA :-)

  • One of my most favorite songs! Great song for Wedding Anniversaries song by Children!

  • I remember this! We had the 45 RPM on Epic records.

  • @Zeab70 Me Too! It was an orange label, not like the Black label with Silver type like MJ's Thriller.

  • WOW..Thank You for the GREAT memory...

  • LOL if you listen to the lyrics it almost sounds like a child molesters favorite song

  • Summer of 1972 AHH!!!...AHH!!!

  • Really? Though released June of 1972, it played only a few times in a few places. It wasn't until Christmas of '72 that the song started taking off becoming a top 40 hit during the spring and summer of 1973.
