  • perfect

  • I love that little grin from Tim at the end, he knew this was impressive.

  • People here in Denmark would go to the Uk to see someone like Jimmy Carr or someone bigger but screw that, I would give/do quite a lot to see Tim Minchin

  • This show is the definitive show of his, simply amazing. My Minchin covers here on Youtube are all based on these versions :D

  • This is my favourite version too!

I'm mentally ill and sometimes I listen to this song to cheer me up.

  • Does anyone else find it ironic that this song is perfect?

  • anyone see the dislike bar? no... thought not

  • I didn't even get half way through!

  • What was he thinking this is my earth! It doesn't mess up his hair ohhh his hair is already a mess!

  • @AppyGirl111 Well done on totally missing the point.

  • @AppyGirl111 Shut up you fucking retard. I never comment in this fashion, but you need to be shot. Don't watch talent if you can't handle it.

  • They should give tim a nickname...how about "God"?

  • Definitely the definitive version. What really made it for me the first time I saw it was the cut to the girl in the audience at 5:16. It wasn't just me and Tim feeling what we were feeling. Awesome.

  • @wraith0x29a I agree totally - I saw this on E4 when I first saw Tim Minchin, and I was moved ;)

  • when did so fucking rock come out?

  • @manateeswillrule 2008 i believe.

  • @akear1 ah thanks

  • I had to come back and watch this again... after watching it the first time, the song was stuck in my head... (in a good way). It's one of those songs whose lyrics really grab at a soul. When you add that to his amazing vocal ability and the lovely piano that follows along with the mood of the song, moving from tender to powerful, it's impossible not to LOVE this; A song that made me laugh and cry the first time, the second time, and quite possibly, every future time I'll hear it.

  • This guy is brilliant!!!!!!! I'm so grateful that someone so special to me sent me this link and turned me on to Tim Michin. Personally, I feel that amidst the comedy, a real message hits home... this song made me laugh and cry. Loved this!!!!!!!! I'm definately a new fan... :) To Tim, I say... Keep writing them... keep singing them... we'll keep listening! Awesome song... simply awesome.

  • I love the bass of the piano hes playing on.

  • Love Tim and love the song. It's a shame this comment box has been taken over by an argument that was better left to inboxes

  • I love the stunned, awed silence when he plays the last chord. Truly an amazing performer, best I've seen.

  • I don't care that this song is funny, its just beautiful. Such a talent.

  • hmmm.... looks like 6 people accidentally hit the 'Dislike' button.

  • You're right, this is the best version! I love this song. It puts everything into perspective. Tim Minchin is very clever at wordplay.

  • The man is brilliant, I'm not British so I'm not using that word like they do. I mean it, he is fucking brilliant, one more iota of brilliance and this man would be completely insane.

  • @Takkantis What way would us british use the word brilliant then? lol

  • @fenderbasskd I dunno it's like a slang term, this is brilliant that's brilliant everything's brilliant, it's like americans say everything is cool but not meaning it's cold....... that's what i mean. I mean he's brilliant in the intellectual way... not the british this is brilliant/cool way. Get it now?

  • @Takkantis I haven't heard anyone over the age of 10 use brilliant like that for years... think you've seen too many tv shows about us :P

  • @fenderbasskd I don't watch tv.... I have British friends.... go back to bed silly person.

  • @Takkantis I'm the silly one and yet I'm the one who knows that we don't use brilliant as "slang"

  • @fenderbasskd Ok then, my friends don't say it all the time... you know them best so I'll trust you on that....

  • @Takkantis Exactly, your friends, not ALL british people. Well done

  • @fenderbasskd I go to school with over 1000 people IN BRITAIN and haven't heard 'brilliant' for many years.

  • @Inferification

I'd ask my parents if they could send me to a different school. It's a little concerning if there's nothing notably "brilliant" around.... (in the sense of "highly intelligent)

Look it up in wiktionary - it says:

(dated, except UK) of surpassing excellence"

(dated, except UK) magnificent or wonderful

  • @chorknator

Ha ha. 'Outstanding' is the preferred term when used in reference to schools within the UK and, of course, I'm sure you wouldn't need to use a dictionary to understand the meaning of the word.

Having said that you may want to look the term 'British' up in the dictionary, not Wiktionary, I believe David Tennant is Scottish.

  • @Takkantis

funny discussion: remind anyone who continues to argue, that no country, no race, no creed "owns" a language. If I wanted to say "brailliunt" (derived from braille and *unt) that could be a new word that no one has ever used before. If this would be picked up by a majority, it'd become an entry in Webster's eventually - i doubt it though.

Another "Brilliant!"-sayer is the 10th Dr. Who - he's not exactly british - if "brilliant" was said in reference to him, it'd become slang.

  • @Takkantis Gotta' agree with the other guy, I'm English and I've never heard anyone use 'brilliant' as slang.

  • @Naffini ..... *sigh* but they do say it, which is why it comes from where it comes from, which is why i made my original statement.... such a silly thing to argue about, i'm going to listen to this song again now.

  • @Takkantis The entire English language comes from... You guessed it England. And if it's such a silly thing to argue about you did you feel the need to reply to my comment?

  • @Naffini Fuel for the fire, thank you for continuing this and letting me listen to this beautiful song again. Also english made english and they also fucked it over... gg. Bloody Brilliant! lolololol

  • @Takkantis Feel free to use any other language, I for one would much prefer it I I couldn't understand a word you were saying.

  • @Naffini Orly? Lmao!! Couldn't understand it so much you replied HAHAHAHA oh man. Come on keep it coming this is gold.

  • @Takkantis Ok maybe you don't speak English so well, seen as I said I would prefer it if I COULDN'T understand you. Seen as you have revealed yourself as an idiot, I will no longer talk to you because I don't speak to the mentally inept.

  • @Naffini Yay I win again! Original comment still valid... God damn I love youtube.

  • @Takkantis I think in your original comment you are mixing up slang with sarcasm... I've used brilliant when being sarcastic, but I have never used or heard anyone using it as slang...

  • @gking92bcfc Oh goodie, another sucker.... lmao

  • 6 people are emotionless bastards..

  • i cried at this and i don't know why i just burst into tears and that never happens to me... just amazing

  • @claudiakelly95 same here.

  • I love the idea of living inside my brain!

  • This song makes me think "everything I have may not be perfect, but it's mine, and that's what makes it special" most people take the ability to see, hear or walk for granted.

If they heard this song, they will realise how special everything they have really is.

    Tim you legend

  • Awesome lyrics and brill piano!!!

  • love how people stop laughing and just admire the pure skill and amazement of the song, amazing, all i have to say.

  • this song is amazing. i have to admit i cried too :') <3 so much love for this beautiful man.

  • So different from a lot of his other stuff... BUT I LOVE IT!

  • i didnt know what to do laugh or cry, so i did both. i love this guy

  • It is amazing... how a halerious, bonkers, crazy ginger with no shoes can write something so heart felt and beautiful. xxxx now that is a musician

  • I cried

  • Comment removed

  • The only song i've ever known that can make you cry and laugh in the same verse

  • @realpianomusic2010 'White Wine In The Sun' is the one that makes me cry & laugh at the same time. As an Aussie who's lived in the UK for 10 years, I hope my family & friends share the sentiment. Damn... getting teary just thinking about the damn song!

  • @BooshMeBaby I just listened to it for the first time, Yet another powerful song by such a talented comedian.

  • Hey, PhilJay, I'm seeing Matilda in November. I'll post back. Spent the train ride home from London writing my own lyrics to It's Not Perfect. What do you think: This is my house, and I live in it. It's made of art and a cat named Shithead, and football scores and late night talks, and friendship rides, nobody walks, and I sure hope I go before the cat. This is my house, and it's mine...

  • Tim Minchin - genius musician and song writer, one of the cleverest comedians ever! Wish I could see maltilda!

  • Windows 7 was my idea...its not perfect but its mine

  • 6 people think they are perfect.

  • "It's not ferfect, but It's mine, It's not perfect...", you can saw the soul through singing softly. Life is like their own children, not perfect, but their own.

  • That girl at 5:15 got me going too. Great song. Great writer. Great comedian and musician... Perfect!

  • Brilliant

  • Total sadface. :P

  • Anyone who thinks Russel Brand comes anywhere close to Tim Minchin talent wise needs shooting,

  • @LORDUnLuCkY13 agreed. entirely.

  • This is my body, and I live in it. It's thirty-two and eight months old. It's changed a lot since it was new. It's done stuff it wasn't built to do. I often try to fill it up with wine... And the weirdest thing about it is, I spend so much time hating it, But it never says a bad word about me... This is my body, and it's fine, It's where I spend the vast majority of my time. It's not perfect, but it's mine... Man I love this song, and this verse in particular.
  • Tim and Russell are two WAY different entities.

  • and the weirdest thing about this house... it has locks to keep the baddies out, but there mostly used to lock Ourselves in

  • Too much Russell and Tim hate going on underneath a beautiful song. The whole youtube rage thing is old now.

  • /watch?v=jzFXg3a4KsY it's a cover my bestfriend did, she's amazing, i'd appriciate it is you could thumbs up, comment and favourite it ;3 thankyou fellow youtubers! :3

  • @polehammer how is Tim anything like that boring cunt, all Brand does is shout random things in retarded ways. Tim actually has talent in comedy, writing and music and combines them brilliantly. He can make you laugh one second, then make you emotionally silent the next.

  • Thumbs up if you wish you could put vocals + instrument together as well as he..

  • Actually those dolls are called matryoshka dolls since 'babushka' means grandmother ^^'

  • This guy has amazing talent.

  • @polehammer go away troll.

  • @polehammer No one, no where, would ever, EVER want to be Russel Brand. And even if Tim Minchin did he fell at the first hurdle by actually having a brain.

  • i cried when i first heard this. probably his most beauitful song :')

  • Tim Minchin > Russel Brand

  • @naltschul Tim Minchin > anyone else who makes a living trying to be funny.

  • Tim is so relatable.

  • @1:34

'the face' when his voice breaks :')

  • I have the feeling im the only dutch fan of him :O I am trying to spread the Minchiness, already made 2 more fans.... Tim Minchin YOU ARE AWESOME!

  • @gamesfrome Nee hoor er zijn er meer.

  • @j3r03n Mooi! Een geruststelling :)

  • @gamesfrome Ik ook, nadat ik vandaag de BBC Proms gekeken heb xD

  • Not perfect? Well, that's relative... compared to, say, most comedians and musicians these days, the difference is negligible.

  • I don't know anybody else apart from Tim who can be so touching and make

me laugh at the same time.

  • Just watched this video 5 times in a row...

  • Brilliant! Love TIM and his work.

  • I always have so much respect for musicians who can make people cry because of the beauty of the music they make!

Take a look at 5:15 the girl, there are few who can cause that kind of crying. :')

  • @gamesfrome Right? and the best part is he is a comedian

  • @midgety1 And he is the only comedian I know who can perform like this, thats for sure

  • @gamesfrome And then go into something like "Fuck the Motherfucking Pope".

  • @tikifreakazoid Haha yes indeed, I think thats a song to troll some Rome Catholics XD

  • @gamesfrome You're right. It takes someone very talented indeed to write a song that is a) so sincere and thought-provoking and b) witty and laughter-inducing at the same time.

  • I know this comment is not perfect. But it's mine.

  • @vvineeth4u hahahahahhahaha. perfect!

  • @vvineeth4u

can you take it back? lack of perfection doesn't excuse lack of thought.

  • <3 you tim

  • beeeeeeeeautiful. cant wait to see him in toronto in june

  • Omg, I wish i knew this song before! After my girlfriend broke up with me thought I was a loser... That nobody liked me. So I was al alone and didnt want to join others cause of that thought. And Ive discovered this song like 1 week ago and I am now like fuck the world this is me like it or not, its maybe not perfect but its me!

Thanks too you Tim!!! Come and visit the Netherlands!!!!

  • This song inspired me to really work hard on recovering from an eating disorder

  • This song is beautiful but its not just the lyrics and notes made on the piano that make it beautiful its the true emotion and feeling that Tim puts into the song! u can feel it coming through and it makes it even more beautiful to listen to :D

  • maybe its not perfect, but that there? that was perfection.

  • i absolutley love his songs, i love him, he is a fashion icon, i want to be him, he is everything i live for in life, TIM MINCHIN IS THE FUCKING GREATEST THING EVER TO ALK EARTH AND WHOEVER DISLIKES HIM NEEDS SHOOTING

  • @Anonymogasm You need to calm down, and rethink your life.

  • If you dislike this you have no soul.

  • If you look at the lady in the crowd at 5:15 you can tell she is really feeling what this song is all about. I'm a guy but this song has such raw feeling, especially towards the end, that I can't help but cry a little inside when I listen to it.

  • @webkilroy314 thats how i felt when i heard it, i love this guy and im a dude with a gf but i dont care what she says thi song is truly beautiful

  • He's so funny and awesome!!!

  • I'm pretty sure 55,000 of these views are mine.

  • @tragicdeceit the other 1,948 were mine LOL and I'm going to see him Tuesday @ the AECC woooooooo lol cant wait

  • @PolyphonicPr0stitute You're very lucky. He almost never comes to America, let alone Wisconsin.

  • Nice..Indeed SAM.....THANKS for the Share once more ...

    :)

  • yes, brliam,yes

  • This is quite possibly one of the most beautiful songs ive ever heard. its the fact that theres an element of seriousness behind the comedy that means so much to him while he plays, you can see it on his face. pure genius.

  • from 3:00 onwards you could forget he was a comedic genius, and just remember he's a fantastic artist

  • hm...I place this song alongside Monty Python's "Remember that you're standing on a planet that's revolving...." song :P

good for a sense of perspective

also good is the Symphony of Science series :P

  • @Rohan2300 Except this song doesn't make me want to undergo a live organ transplant :S

  • It gives me a tingly feeling up my back! I love it! TvT

  • He may of felt like the smallest at the start, but is now the biggest :) xx

  • Whyyy is this song not available on ITunes?? Gah its so beautiful!

  • @christiangurl25 it is now but with an orchestra :D

  • Comment removed

  • Its actually only like 0.01% water but thats just me being picky....Great song :)

  • @MadeinheavenQueenfan

how do you figure? I think he is talking about surface area, not total mass... But I agree, it is an AMAZING song.

  • @MadeinheavenQueenfan Surface area he is talking about obviously

  • @Patrunic Thanks for clearing that up, Yoda.

  • 2 people are obviously retarded need your head shaking you fuck tards

  • definitely one of tim's most under-rated performances. i LOVE this song.

  • Haha. Sejt, så "mange" danskere, der er her (;

  • Haha. Sejt, så "mange" danskere, der er her (;

  • det er fandme en smuk sang :) \m/

  • He forgot his country :(

  • @leonardpatz He's cut it out recently :(

  • @jersey24601 He did it as a second encore at his O2 show in Dec.

  • @PuppetsNStuff noo i mean he's cut that verse out :)

  • @jersey24601 Whoops my mistake, sorry! It's just I also saw Linzy mentioned on the AngryFeet forum that Tim probably wouldn't be performing the song in future shows, which I was gutted about cause it's a personal fave! then again that made the surprise all the nicer when he did it as the second encore!

  • I just found this song today. It's damn good. Beautiful and simple, but oh so relatable. It brought a smile on my face. Now, to learn it on my uke...

  • @Svejser Jam with uke and harmonica then? We could find a second voice to xD

  • @kangaimRoo It would be awesome!

  • @Svejser lol exactly what I'm trying to do right now. But the ukulele-tabs website tabs not the easiest for this song and I'm not the best player. Where you getting yours. And good luck =)!

  • @partho00 I have been using these: guitaretab[dot]com/t/tim-minchin/90297.html

They are the same as those on the ukulele-tas website, but I prefer having the text to read along to, when learning the song.

There are a few hard chords... the E is a real finger twister for beginners, but the rest is fairly easy. I have only played for about a year, so I'm not very good either, but I can play this one without much too much trouble, so good luck and have fun with it :)

  • This is one song that I will never tire of listening to. Every time I do I find something else I absolutely LOVE and need to watch again!

  • i spend so much time hating it but it never says a bad word about me -that made my mum cry :L <3<3

  • love this man and his music...legend

  • @philipross we must not let the comments fall to any more than one day!!

  • Sorry, but the most recent comment was a day old and I couldn't bear to see that nobody had yet said something nice about this tune and this amazingly talented fellow. I yearn for the time when I will finally be sick of this song, but in the meantime, I can't get it out of my head. It's merely brilliant.

  • Beautiful :) i love it :) xxx

  • 2 people seem to think they're perfect ;)

  • @Scott9740 you're a homophobic cunt

  • We rented of a guy, who bought it from a guy, who bought it from a guy.

(People laugh) Who's grandad left it to him. (silence)

That is not talent. It is something far greater. Honesty.

  • this is acturlly quiet emotional

  • Whoever dislikes this song is a cunt :) x

  • @PureRacingOpposition O, the irony

  • Two people don't spend the majority of their time in their minds.

  • @Rayathrak No, they spent the majority of their time "out of their minds."
