People here in Denmark would go to the Uk to see someone like Jimmy Carr or someone bigger but screw that, I would give/do quite a lot to see Tim Minchin
Definitely the definitive version. What really made it for me the first time I saw it was the cut to the girl in the audience at 5:16. It wasn't just me and Tim feeling what we were feeling. Awesome.
I had to come back and watch this again... after watching it the first time, the song was stuck in my head... (in a good way). It's one of those songs whose lyrics really grab at a soul. When you add that to his amazing vocal ability and the lovely piano that follows along with the mood of the song, moving from tender to powerful, it's impossible not to LOVE this; A song that made me laugh and cry the first time, the second time, and quite possibly, every future time I'll hear it.
This guy is brilliant!!!!!!! I'm so grateful that someone so special to me sent me this link and turned me on to Tim Michin. Personally, I feel that amidst the comedy, a real message hits home... this song made me laugh and cry. Loved this!!!!!!!! I'm definately a new fan... :) To Tim, I say... Keep writing them... keep singing them... we'll keep listening! Awesome song... simply awesome.
The man is brilliant, I'm not British so I'm not using that word like they do. I mean it, he is fucking brilliant, one more iota of brilliance and this man would be completely insane.
The man is brilliant, I'm not British so I'm not using that word like they do. I mean it, he is fucking brilliant, one more iota of brilliance and this man would be completely insane.
@fenderbasskd I dunno it's like a slang term, this is brilliant that's brilliant everything's brilliant, it's like americans say everything is cool but not meaning it's cold....... that's what i mean. I mean he's brilliant in the intellectual way... not the british this is brilliant/cool way. Get it now?
@fenderbasskd British people is where it came from... and where it still exists.... so my original comment is still correct.... "well done" lmfao. Go back to sleep now little child before your "mum" catches you on the internet again.
I'd ask my parents if they could send me to a different school. It's a little concerning if there's nothing notably "brilliant" around.... (in the sense of "highly intelligent)
Ha ha. 'Outstanding' is the preferred term when used in reference to schools within the UK and, of course, I'm sure you wouldn't need to use a dictionary to understand the meaning of the word.
Having said that you may want to look the term 'British' up in the dictionary, not Wiktionary, I believe David Tennant is Scottish.
funny discussion: remind anyone who continues to argue, that no country, no race, no creed "owns" a language. If I wanted to say "brailliunt" (derived from braille and *unt) that could be a new word that no one has ever used before. If this would be picked up by a majority, it'd become an entry in Webster's eventually - i doubt it though.
Another "Brilliant!"-sayer is the 10th Dr. Who - he's not exactly british - if "brilliant" was said in reference to him, it'd become slang.
@Naffini ..... *sigh* but they do say it, which is why it comes from where it comes from, which is why i made my original statement.... such a silly thing to argue about, i'm going to listen to this song again now.
@Takkantis The entire English language comes from... You guessed it England. And if it's such a silly thing to argue about you did you feel the need to reply to my comment?
@Naffini Fuel for the fire, thank you for continuing this and letting me listen to this beautiful song again. Also english made english and they also fucked it over... gg. Bloody Brilliant! lolololol
@Takkantis Ok maybe you don't speak English so well, seen as I said I would prefer it if I COULDN'T understand you. Seen as you have revealed yourself as an idiot, I will no longer talk to you because I don't speak to the mentally inept.
@Takkantis I think in your original comment you are mixing up slang with sarcasm... I've used brilliant when being sarcastic, but I have never used or heard anyone using it as slang...
This song makes me think "everything I have may not be perfect, but it's mine, and that's what makes it special" most people take the ability to see, hear or walk for granted.
If they heard this song, they will realise how special everything they have really is.
@realpianomusic2010 'White Wine In The Sun' is the one that makes me cry & laugh at the same time. As an Aussie who's lived in the UK for 10 years, I hope my family & friends share the sentiment. Damn... getting teary just thinking about the damn song!
Hey, PhilJay, I'm seeing Matilda in November. I'll post back. Spent the train ride home from London writing my own lyrics to It's Not Perfect. What do you think: This is my house, and I live in it. It's made of art and a cat named Shithead, and football scores and late night talks, and friendship rides, nobody walks, and I sure hope I go before the cat. This is my house, and it's mine...
"It's not ferfect, but It's mine, It's not perfect...", you can saw the soul through singing softly. Life is like their own children, not perfect, but their own.
This is my body, and I live in it. It's thirty-two and eight months old. It's changed a lot since it was new. It's done stuff it wasn't built to do. I often try to fill it up with wine... And the weirdest thing about it is, I spend so much time hating it, But it never says a bad word about me... This is my body, and it's fine, It's where I spend the vast majority of my time. It's not perfect, but it's mine... Man I love this song, and this verse in particular.
/watch?v=jzFXg3a4KsY it's a cover my bestfriend did, she's amazing, i'd appriciate it is you could thumbs up, comment and favourite it ;3 thankyou fellow youtubers! :3

@puppetsNstuff2 for a guy who supposedly doesn't wanna be Russell Brand this wanker sure puts a lot of effort into ripping off his look, although yes, he sorely lacks when it comes to matching him in the talent department. @polehammer No one, no where, would ever, EVER want to be Russel Brand. And even if Tim Minchin did he fell at the first hurdle by actually having a brain.
@gamesfrome You're right. It takes someone very talented indeed to write a song that is a) so sincere and thought-provoking and b) witty and laughter-inducing at the same time.

@jersey24601 Whoops my mistake, sorry! It's just I also saw Linzy mentioned on the AngryFeet forum that Tim probably wouldn't be performing the song in future shows, which I was gutted about cause it's a personal fave! then again that made the surprise all the nicer when he did it as the second encore!
@Svejser Fuck du er fra Danmark! Jeg er fra Norge! det bettyr at du skjønner det jeg skriver nå! :o Det bettyr også att du og jeg er ment å Jamme over internett xD
@Svejser lol exactly what I'm trying to do right now. But the ukulele-tabs website tabs not the easiest for this song and I'm not the best player. Where you getting yours. And good luck =)!
@partho00 I have been using these: guitaretab[dot]com/t/tim-minchin/90297.html
They are the same as those on the ukulele-tas website, but I prefer having the text to read along to, when learning the song.
There are a few hard chords... the E is a real finger twister for beginners, but the rest is fairly easy. I have only played for about a year, so I'm not very good either, but I can play this one without much too much trouble, so good luck and have fun with it :)
Sorry, but the most recent comment was a day old and I couldn't bear to see that nobody had yet said something nice about this tune and this amazingly talented fellow. I yearn for the time when I will finally be sick of this song, but in the meantime, I can't get it out of my head. It's merely brilliant.

from 3:00 onwards you could forget he was a comedic genius, and just remember he's a fantastic artist

hm...I place this song alongside Monty Python's "Remember that you're standing on a planet that's revolving...." song :P
good for a sense of perspective
also good is the Symphony of Science series :P

jersey24601 10 months ago
@jersey24601 Whoops my mistake, sorry! It's just I also saw Linzy mentioned on the AngryFeet forum that Tim probably wouldn't be performing the song in future shows, which I was gutted about cause it's a personal fave! then again that made the surprise all the nicer when he did it as the second encore!

I just found this song today. It's damn good. Beautiful and simple, but oh so relatable. It brought a smile on my face. Now, to learn it on my uke...
Svejser 1 year ago
@Svejser Jam with uke and harmonica then? We could find a second voice to xD

@Svejser lol exactly what I'm trying to do right now. But the ukulele-tabs website tabs not the easiest for this song and I'm not the best player. Where you getting yours. And good luck =)!
partho00 1 year ago
@partho00 I have been using these: guitaretab[dot]com/t/tim-minchin/90297.html

@philipross we must not let the comments fall to any more than one day!!
mrmebs 1 year ago
Sorry, but the most recent comment was a day old and I couldn't bear to see that nobody had yet said something nice about this tune and this amazingly talented fellow. I yearn for the time when I will finally be sick of this song, but in the meantime, I can't get it out of my head. It's merely brilliant.

We rented of a guy, who bought it from a guy, who bought it from a guy.
(People laugh) Who's grandad left it to him. (silence)
That is not talent. It is something far greater. Honesty.
