  • toe stands are actually very hard to do

they aren't even part of my school's steps until you learn the open championship dances

i rolled my ankle just doing jumps (what i learned from that is to not dance on carpet in your socks), for this kind of thing it is very possible to break your ankle

  • What he is trying to say is that you shouldn't attempt this IF your ankles aren't strong enough. you could roll them out and seriously hurt yourself. And normally people under 12 haven't fully stregthen their feet or ankles. It may not be for EVERY 12 year olds, but it's just a precutions! Beginners shouldn't attempted without a expert.

  • is he crazy it is no way a toe stand

  • tHE SUBTITLES GET IN THE WAY OF THE VIDEO!

  • @Angie2343 you can turn those off

  • im 11 and i can do that

  • Just hold on to a wall or two chairs when first learning it. Then, as your balance increases, you can do it on your own. Everyone can calm down!

The 12 year old thing is just because the rules are that no one under twelve can compete with toe stands in their dances, for safety issues. Although some may be able to do them perfectly, their muscles arent quite developed enough to do them.

    :)

  • Umm these comments are wrong... Im an intermediate dancer and the step isnt that advanced Its super easy! A person that pretty much just started dancing could do that! It doesnt cause injury if you go into it gradually.

  • they mean if you do more than just stand there for a second, like rocks from them or walking or any other improvised, or weird choreographed deal with them that you could hurt yourself. but i do think that this was for his own students...

  • Iťs true, but 12 age is in the championschip rules...

  • I know this is going to be a stupid question- but why does he sit like that in all the videos, why not have the sign higher up??!

  • I agree. It has nothing to do with age! It has something to do with experience.

And as for the title of this video? Intermediate? No way in hell is this intermediate. This move is only taught at an exptremely high level, and teaching someone this move with no experience, and over the internet (!) is very dangerous.

I know the toe piece has is an important part for this move, But if you go on your toes in trainers, Shoes, Ballet shoes etc.. Its 100 times easier than it is in the hard shoe.

  • actually, the toe stand is a beginner step- not taught at an extremely high level as you said. do you irish dance yourself?

  • @Clar1cey no it is not. a begginger does not have enough ankle strength to do this properly. in atep dance you usually jump quickly up to your toes. I have been dancing Irish step dance for 11 years

  • @CeeDOT1 . Actually , this is more of a beginner move , and he isn't doing it properly, the flat part at the end of your hardshoe shouldn't touch the ground. The leather at the top of your shoe, right where it attaches to the bottom is where you should be. And yes, you should not be doing this if your under the age of 12. I learned this move when i was still in novice, and have used it all the way up to open.

  • Do you REALLY think you should be teaching people with no irish dance background what-so-ever? Someone could very seriously hurt themselves even to the point of breaking their foot. This is not smart. Ive been dancing since i was four and never once attepeted this move till i was well into prizewinner. I can see teaching some basic steps on youtube but not advanced moves that could possibly cause injury.

  • Yes I totally agree I have been dancing for 8 years now and our teacher would have eaten us if we had tried that move too early. He should have explained that this is a complicated and dangerous move if done incorrectly!!

  • Geez, I don't want to wait that long to learn this. I'm not a child. LOL.

  • i know. ^^

and before you can try this move in general you have to stretch out your hardshoes so you can go on your toes!
