When visitng London in 1998 Pinochet was arrested for Human rights violations and Thatcher fought for his release. When he died she said that she was 'greatly saddened'. These facts alone demonstrate what a disgusting individual she is.

Margaret Thatcher was bad for Britain. There's nothing useless about the trade union movement. They were 100% justified to fight her all the way during the 1980s especially with the Coal Miner Strikes. What she did to the Liverpool 47 was criminal. She was totally awful, and there are plenty of people in the UK that despises her to this day. When I think of the wonderful and needed reforms of the Clement Atlee government and her nasty policies, there just isn't any comparison.

When Thatcher came to power inflation was rampent, the economy was going down the tubes. The miners were able to hold the majority of the people to ransom to ensure that their jobs were subsidised. She saved the economy and created the Britain there is today. Without her the standard of living for everyone would be MUCH lower & thousands would still be without there own homes. There is a clear comparison-Clems reforms started the rot, Maggies solved it.

Had it not been for Clement Atlee's reforms, Britain would sink to the poverty level of the United States whereby there is wage war to the bottom, a tattered safety net, a virtually non-existent trade union movement, and people dying due to medical inflation. Most of Attlees reforms were simply from the Beveridge report-these would have been enacted by the Tories, they werent socialist ideals but liberal ones. The only original Lab. reforms were nationalisation & centralisation. The two things that destroyed the British economy. Look at the economy in 79, thats what socialism does-mass unemployment high inflation-its worse for EVERYONE. A rising tide lifts all boats, Britain has proved this as a fact. I am familiar with the Beveridge Report, and this makes it ironically possible that if Winston Churchill's Tories would have governed between 1945-1951, some of those reforms would have been instituted anyway like national healthcare and the welfare state. Britain, neverthless, did very well in the 1950s & 60s. Economy goes in cycles, and the energy crises made life horrible for most democracies in the 1970s including the UK. I stand by what I was thought of the Thatcher years.
