ni'ihau. there hawaiian families live simply. void of modern roads, hotels and electricity, ni'ihau preserves a uniquely sustainable way of life lost long ago on neighboring islands.
glad you guys returned safely. sad to see all the hate by flaming posters. there are a lot of issues we have to deal with in this world and actions speak louder than words. it seems you have respect for the ocean which is awesome.
my uncle went surfing their before on a boat. There really are some big sharks over their. He told me that him and his friends were eating lunch on the boat and their still was one guy paddling back to the boat. So while they were eating they started to throw their chicken bones into the water and immediately a massive tiger shark showed up and swam right past the guy that was paddling in.
wow you really need to get a life and respect the nature and the wishes of the people on the island, if they wanted you there they would have invited you but you weren't were you? GO AWAY!
the hawaiians have lost so much stay off their forbidden islands greed is moving you to violate their boundaries maybe we come to your house and raid your food its all good right
0:32 that looks like a hawaiian captain to me my first question is y did that captain take them there....? thats the person you should have a problem with
You sound like one of those peta elite freaks. Enjoy your tofu wraps.... Me, on the other hand, will provide fish caught from my local waters for my family using the most selective form of fishing there is, spearfishing... no by catch. Educate yourself on the subject before you make foolish posts.
what you describe is fishing to feed yourself. Sorry if you need to do that but its ok. What these guys did looks like fishing for fun in waters reserved for use by natives.
Normally I would not view and much less comment such videos but whoever posted it here did it deliberately so that it will popup when searching for innocent content about Niihau. Its like when your kids search for harmless pet pictures and find hardcore bestiality porn instead.
Being able to provide local fish for my family is a blessing, not something to be sorry for. Your arrogance is right on point. your attitude is one against fisherman in general, not just people fishing the island. Go back to San Fran with all your other radical elite buddies. Do you even use the ocean? Is it even part of your life? Whats your connection to the ocean that gives you any credibility to open your mouth?
you speaking about arrogance? Nice slang.. using the ocean.
So anyone who chooses not to destroy the ocean has no right to say anything according to your strange worldview.
And who gives you the right to speak about anything related to Hawaii? Before the Haole came the islands did support a million people. Now they support a million beggars.
If you eat any seafood, you are the ultimate hypocrite. Because any fish you eat, 5 others were killed as by catch. I have no by catch. The ocean provides me food, so yes, i use it, and it gives me great joy. But I also pick up trash on the beach and do everything i can to preserve and promote a healthy and sustainable fishery. So the ocean uses me as well. People like you will never understand because its the people like me who are the true stewards of the ocean. Not some arm chair kook....
If you think that you are the helping the ocean than you are a hypocrite. There is nothing sustainable about driving a big car to the beach to kill a few fishes. I see every day big farts driving dozens of miles with huge cars just to do some ridiculous fishing.. guess what the eco bilance of this activity is.
There is one lesson you should learn: the ocean is not your property, neither is this planet.
So are you saying you don't drive a vehicle? because by your logic, if you drive anywhere, you are contributing to the environments demise, and it would be highly un-ethical... when you use gas to drive to the vegan market, your impact is greater against the environment, because not just the gas you burned, but the money you spend there will trickle through the economic system, and wind up funding things that destroy the environment.
When you catch your own fish, you don't contribute to the big money interests, food inc.... your not spending money that moves through a system thats making people more and more unhealthy . You need to see things from a larger perspective. I drive a 4 banger toyota truck and live a block from the pacific ocean. If you drive more than a 1/4 mile to work you hurt the environment more than when I go fish by your own logic. A lot of times i just walk to go spearfish
@RicZxx Hey there RicZxx if your so intelligent and so worried about the environment why dont you get off your fat ass and do something about it instead of talking crap to people who accualy enjoy what they love to do.. Ohh and by the way fish is already plural, you wouldn't say chineses.. moron! Keep up the good work my fellow men of the sea!
@RicZxx judging by your comments, you seem to be pretty dumb. don't even try to stick up for anything hawaiian, and you have no right to speak for any of us. you're german right? who are you to give lectures about anything when your country committed mass genocide. if you don't like the human civilization, then just go kill yourself because in one way or another, you are contributing to the earth's demise.
sorry all, but.. playing pretty music while showing you and your friends spear gunning beautiful looking fish is kind of creepy as sh*t.
I'm sorry from the bottom of my heart, if this guy did pass on, because of a struggle with brain cancer.. That's horrible. and I won't say anything more than that.
Cool video. I love the islands and I just got back last week from O'ahu. I did a dive off of the North Shore many years ago and enjoyed seeing all the tropical fish. This past visit I just stuck to snorkeling and enjoying the reef fish. Aloha
christinme2u, Sean Stodelle aka Stody1 passed away from brain cancer on 8/9/09. He was a good man that was a huge advocate of safety while diving. He helped a lot of people and made them aware of the dangers of diving and no doubt saved lives. I know that you didnt know this about him, but still speaking ill of someone that has recently passed is not PONO. And being someone who knows Hawaiian culture, I'm sure that you'd agree.
That;s how the Haolies did Kauai in the 60's they open up princeville and brought Realtor's from the mainland all expenses paid to sell the aina . eh Proferic, jollyholly, dstick, stody1 your ignorant you need to sit down with some Hawaiian elders and learn how Kauai sustained well over 100,000 people for generations, you don't take what you don't NEED. People come to Hawaii and think they have the right to buy the Aloha, and in doing so they destroy it Aloha is a Hearts desire not merchandise
AOLE MAHALO for STEALING the people of Niihaus FISH AND FOOD
Niihau is FORBIDDEN for a reason.
DID U NEED THAT FISH TO FEED YOU OHANA? NOYou dont realize what it does to the stable food supply of a people who have no electricity and refrigeration
Kauai built supermarkets so when you take all our fish and us work at minimum wage instead of fish from the ocean, we can buy mainland fish in freezer section.
Was really bad conditions, not quite the number of fish one would assume, and the water was dirty. Beides, it was all about diving and video camera only came out for a few hours on a multi day trip. Interested in seeing how youwould make a video with the same condition.
