  • CHUBBY CHECKER PSYCHO, BELGIANS IN THE CONGO!!!

  • This was the best band he had. Best bass Player the band ever had. Best Drummer too.

  • This was the best band he had.

  • check out the drummer!

  • VOCALS IS JUST AMAZING. LIKE LISTENING TO HIS CD. SPEECHLESS.

  • Can anyone hear his keyboard? It seems like in the beginning he's looking around because it's not on.

  • what season of snl is this

  • @howyoudointonight october WTF, 1989

  • KILLLLLLLER!!!!!!!!!! many thanks! love him to death man, from the frizzy hair of the seventies to forever... like a million great songs what a soul, man what an ARTIST what talent what a gift!

  • Billy Joel is an american treasure, and one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

It's such a shame that the popular music press always ranks him so low on the best of all time lists that they come out with from time to time. I am a great Beatles fan, but the music of Mr William Joel is light years ahead of anything that John, Paul, George, or Ringo could EVER write. Oh well that's my opinion anyway.

  • @Timetraveler7777 I couldn't agree more! I think he is a lyrical genius and a truly gifted pianist. I am always disappointed that people don't reference him more often.

  • More Cowbell!

  • 2:36 look at the bass player :D lol

  • the drummers so coked up!

  • down easter from the solo on is the shit..priceless.

  • Who swapped his Casio out with a toy from Fisher Price?

  • what year was this? 80s?

  • @gtkr69 Judging by what he's wearing, it's probably 1989 or 1990, when We Didn't start The Fire. Also, because he's wearing an anchor on his shirt, so yes it's probably during the Storm Front Tour, during 1990.

  • Hahah.........liberty devitto is totally into it, I think he mouthed most of the words to "Fire" Also is that John Mellencamp's violin player from the 80s?!?!?

  • @exitwest Well, as we all know, Liberty knows the words to all the songs.

  • Brilliant

  • Presenter is Kathleen Turner, she also played Chandler Bing's Dad on Friends

  • @MrJohnnyComelately Kathleen Turner also turned into a man shortly after this introduction.

  • @MrJohnnyComelately I still wack it to her in th movie body heat !!!!!!!!

  • That is the worst performance of We Didn't Start the Fire I've ever seen

  • @TheJew2979 Really....I actually thought it was pretty good. But to be fair I haven't seen alot of others. Do you have a link to better ones? Thanks.

  • Who is the presenter?

  • Billy's sporting the shades. he looks like he did in the video of this song!

  • That drummer is the human version of Animal.

  • freaking. amazing.

  • Liberty DeVitto forever.

  • Bill is always great, but i dont like how he looks on a keyboard lol

  • @blumonkeyboy It's so different in a big arena concert, when he walks across the stage to one of two rotateable keybords for "Pressure" or "Don't Ask Me Why". Don't disparage Billy on a keyboard til you get to see him in concert. It's epic. :)

  • Liberty Devito was the shit!

  • You see the sign at the right corner: that's MTV. Back in the old days they used to play MUSIC

  • I have been looking for this SNL "Downeaster Alexa" performance for ages--thank you so much!

  • I remember this very well. I was fighting with my g/f at the time, and couldn't watch tv in her dorm room, so I had to desperately find a tv to catch this episode. Glad I did.

  • dang he is so talented OwO, he can sing, AND play a hell lot of instrument, great guy =]

  • I got a fever, and the only prescription, is more cow bell.

  • @rustytrombone1027 Not alot of people get your joke, sadly.

  • @metalshadowmario4 Well, I have four thumbs up, so at least four of you get it.

  • @rustytrombone1027 Ha Haw!

  • Liberty DeVitto is my favorite desperate musician.

  • This is the PASSION that American Idol judges always talk about. This is what makes an artist, his live performances!

  • i think this downeaster alexa might be like the best live performance ive ever seen

  • I always loved his drummer. Plays hard and passionate as hell. A groovin' in the pocket monster.

  • thats Liberty DiVito- he has been Joels drummer since the begining & dont confuse being intense with being stoned (although this was the cocaine 80's) TPintheBronx

  • thats Liberty DiVito - he has been Joels drummer since the begining. its only recently that he is not with the band & dont confuse being intense with being stoned.(although it was the cocaine 80's)

  • lol Yeah I think the drummers from a different band

  • More Cowbell

  • Fantastic...what passion!

  • I always loved this performance, thanks for posting. The violinist is Mindy Jostyn, who unfortunately passed away back in 2005.
