I agree. Reliability is key and there are still some issues with the Class-D amps when it comes to really hot enviroments. I would take the traditional powerams and I'm still not comforatble enough with powered speaker boxes to fully trust them.
@djteknovibe its not "very, very far from the truth" in live sound reinforcement, the "hell of a lot of people" you're talking about are noted however the use of traditional heavy transformer based A/B type amps has dwindled dramatically due to light weight high powered amps, of course if extreme fidelity is your goal (without regards to weight) you can do what I mentioned and obtain a Crest 10001 which can easily dump 5000 watts per channel into a 1 ohm load @ 20-20khz with far less then 1% thd
I set this stage up a couple times, It never went this fast. Ohh yeah the main speakers were Peavey line array and the amps pushing them are Crest 8001's.
Actually Peavey bought Crest who do infact make the best of the traditional style power amps, of course no one really uses traditional power amps these days due to their weight and current draw however I'd say a Crest 10001 driving 4 or 8 subs per side is "power personified"
