Very hard to get bearings while swimming in tunnels underwater. Quite a pain. A giant slaughterfish even attacked me that had just eaten an unfortunate adventurer right before I found it and it was quite huge. I picked a whole suit of armor and some remaining bones in the carcass to. EWWW.

there is one easy way to let he die without you killing him :) go to the top of the fort and take up a claymore or longsword, if you parry hes strikes he will fall all the way down to the ground, and you are still in the mages guild! :)

I managed to get him to die without killing him. Just go to the top of the tower and let him try to attack you when your on the edge. When he attacks, just try to deflect it and bye bye.

@godlycanadian Its A Silver Longsword. They are fairly common. I think you can kill a guard in certain cities and get it. My infamy is 67, so i have no problem killing a guard though. You might just want to search around for it.

@chardsnake Some good news for those in the mages guild. Dont be discouraged by all the comments saying you will be booted from the mages guild. Just dont let Fathis Aran see you gank the shit from his chest and your good. I just went in with 100 sneak and some strong invisiblity potions. duke never seen me coming.. or going for that matter. beat the whole quest without shedding a drop of blood. and got the reward without damaging my status as arch-mage

@ReedDollaz15 - There is a mission where you have to get an arrow or something for him. You've got the choice to either give it to him, keep it for yourself or give it to some Elf that pops up during the quest. If you don't give it to him he get's pissed off with you and refuses to talk to you rendering the final post useless. The way to get around this is just use the guy from Bruma, I fenced 1000 gold easily with him :)

Ok, as of 09/09/10 i just have completed this quest and as long as you do not kill him and ONLY steal the arrow you will remain in the mage guild, best method of doing this is just run steal the arrow and run away as fast as possible, DO NOT KILL HIM or you will also be disbanned from the mages guild

This mission is the hardest one that I have encountered so far. I've beaten all of the Dark Brotherhood, the Arena, some of the Fighters Guild, and some of the Mages Guild. It just took me way too long to find the door to his tower. I kept going all the way down where the slaughterfish was and wasted many sea potions. Thanks for this video.

@RuinedScapeServer you should get the skeleton key from the shrine of nocturnal its a lockpick which never breaks also the quest for nocturnal gives you a plus 50 security bonus and its a really easy quest. You need to be level 10 to start it
