  • Thank you. I am half Korean and half white as well. And this video is the story of my life.

  • Well done for reaching so many people and saying so eloquently what is difficult to describe. You are wholly brilliant.

  • very enlightening, no better way to share your soul

  • I'm half Malaysian and half Korean.. I can relate to this.

  • being half asian is awesome dude well i'm barely asian but still

  • This is beautiful. I don't really know what to say... I'm sorry people can be so terrible. I'd hoped our world had moved past this. Someday you will meet people who are not like that.

I am white...and my husband is Korean. Love covers all things.

  • im not half korean american but i am half chinese american and this explains my life in a short 2mins and 50 seconds. it couldnt have been said any better. people often fail to see the struggles of being bi-racial and to everyone else it really doesnt matter about his accent or where he grew up, what matter is the words he speaks and thaqt others need to become enlightened and learn from it.

  • I know where you are coming from. My friend is half Korean/ half American but she is half black american and lives in a predominantly black neighborhood. Black people are usually accepting it is his Korean side that doesn't except her and she talking about it all the time. I am going to make sure she sees this.

  • This made me think a lot...

As a full korean I dont know what you're going through but this rap seriously made me want to understand how it is to be labeled...

    Thank you

  • This is Beautiful...and even though I hate the term 'half'...my boyfriend is half Korean. There should be no separation of being American, but the way thats the way the world is. No matter how much we try to change is its not going to. I dont know what it feels like personally, and I can't really say that I understand, but I know how it feels to be outcasted because of the person im with. It's not fair to you...to my boyfriend or to me as his partner. This video was very touching...

  • Im half korean and half white and this is just amazing. Almost made me cry.

  • you talking ghetto or black is wrong....

  • @insane931 There is no such thing as talking black or ghetto.

  • @LoliJRockDramaLover1 i dont talk like that, an only black people an wanna be black people talk with this fake accent............

  • @insane931 I am pretty sure his accent isn't fake. I am pretty sure he grew up in a predominantly black neighborhood. It is the same as a black person growing up in a Predominantly white most likely you are going to talk in proper English. It is the same as people talking different when one person is from Boston and another is from North Carlina. Also talking black and talking ghetto is very different.

  • @LoliJRockDramaLover1 dont people who talk like this live in the ghetto? and arnt they usually black?

  • @insane931 Actually no. I have seen ghetto that aren't mostly black. You don't seem like you actually know or care to know actually black people. So I am going to leave this alone after this. But "ghetto" talking to me usually means you aren't education enough to speak plan proper English. Talking black is different black people have there own distinguished voice. It just like if you see a white person or a hillbilly. IDK whatever.

  • ok den.

    i see you

  • try being black and white Barfield

  • as a white male who just found out his korean wife is pregnant, i have to tell you that this really struck me. more than anything it reminds me that i have to be humble because my child will experience things that i will never know. thanks a thousand times for this.

  • "half my life i've been made to think i'm half a human being" ... hmmm ... maybe if you identified with either of the cultures you are "half" of, in lieu of a third one altogether, this wouldn't be so much an issue? i think so!

  • he is just a halfie.. but he acts like he is being treated like an alien.

mixed race people are just normal human beings.. geez

he is overdoing it a bit.

  • is there a sight were this is published

  • is there a sight were this is published

  • If you were half black you would have rapped better...nah just kidding. You're cool.

  • @idonotneedanidforyou Haha I know right?

  • Who wrote this? who's work is this? email me, hit me on facebk...asap.

  • This is a beautiful video. I'm not mixed race or anything but I deff hate how people treat race like its such a divider of people. People are people. I love what you have to say <3

  • Nice video! Hope you know there is a whole community out there.

Don't fell alone, especially in todays society!

  • My mother is half korean and like her the genetics show through in me. I have spent most of my life stuck wondering who I am. I have always referred to myself as a Korean American. At the age of 27 I still deal with the racist remarks of ignorant people. My sister who takes after my father has never endured that kind of pain. I spent more time with my grandmother than the rest of my family and she played a big role in who I am. I want to thank you for this video. Your voice is shared by many.

  • This is art

  • man, u r good!!!!!!

  • Wow...you're good.

  • Embrace your wholeness.

  • I like the video, and you're a great rapper. Don't feel alone. You're not.

  • i like ur ryhmes. i feel u down 2 the bone. im half dutch/japanese. pece out

  • Beautiful

  • for real g this shit is dope man.. i love the lyrics and how you u flipped it.. im 113% korean.. but how you spit your bars made me feel what you went thro. and the background music went good with it. im sorry i kinda went thro what you went thro.. i grew up in a bad part of my town with 80% of mexicans .. i was like the only korean kid in elementary, middle school and high school. so yeah i got all mexican friends.. took alot of fighting for me to be accepted .. its sad but its life

  • This video is amazing. Thank you for making this for all the half asians." half korean, half american, I am a whole person"

  • This is amazing. Powerful.... incredible.

  • dude, get a life.

  • I really dig this!

  • Great video.

  • This is your only video? I would love to hear more.

  • im also half korean and half white. mistaken for mexican, venezuelan, hawaiian, samoan, guamanian, and philipino among others. im just a human being like everyone else. i dont fit in appearance wise but i make up for all that with my actions and words. the world is progressively becoming more comfortable with mixed children and the full races will slowly be depleted. regardless of race marry the one you love and have children. there will always be the ignorant stereotypes. as we grow we overcome

  • You seem to rejoice that full races should be depleted. Very typical "Hapa" attitude indeed.

  • im not rejoicing im stating the truth. just facts not opinions. so lets not speak of it and avoid the truth then right? or are you saying we should realize it and weep? i have pride in my ethnicity but i have an even stronger understanding of us all being human and equal. something you lack and replace with ignorance.

  • Something i lack could mean something you have, and vice-versa. Unfortunately, things aren't as simple as you think. Equality is just an unrealistic perception to justify what you can have and what you can't. Well typical response coming from a pc-society like USA. "Hapa" pride indeed.

I am sorry if it offends you but this is the truth i believe in - preservation of individual ethnic groups.

  • people mistaken me for many different races. Just shows how the public blends different races perceptively.

Failed experiment? Judging by your presumptuous stupidity, your mother must have been a prematurely born cerebal palsy stricken tardo who was raped by an elephant man lookalike with a peanut sized brain and a weeman sized body.

  • lol no

anything that looks anything remotely like a subhuman mexican or filipino is a failure on every level

I'm guessing your father is the cause, racial inferiors produce racial inferiors

  • exceptionally powerful

  • This was a great spoken word and give me a lot of inspiration for my work!

  • I keep on saying to people to stop dating interacially.....it leads to undesirables like these half and half

  • I agree. For the best of results, stick to one's race.

  • i completely agree with you

  • @asclepiusnoob this is not true...check my video out buddy :)

  • best results? children arent science experiments buddy. im a combination of races and i can guarantee you my intellect is far superior to yours. any racial slurs growing up only made me stronger and opened my eyes to biased people like yourself.

  • You're naive.

  • people like you calling us undesireables are the reason we feel this way.

  • @freeqwerqwer im not undesirable...check out my video :)

  • I like your talent.

  • that is really good, i hope to hear more of your spoken word

  • I identify with you as well. I'm also half korean and white. Thank you for this.

  • big fuckin deal. im full korean. that dont mean shit. everyone hates me. you could certainly understand that right away.

big fucking deal. i understand your pain and what gone through, everyone has to deal with it.

  • Half Korean/White 23yrs old here. Have lived in predominantly white communities for my whole life. Your lyricism reflects many of my feelings as well. Great job

  • im in love with you <3

  • how can you say you are half complete. if you think being "half" is an "issue", than it will become an issue.

  • Amazing !!! I am also Half Korean / White too...Made me cry but so very inspiring...Thank you so much for doing this Video...I cant tell you enough how much I appreciate this...WE will always keep it will, No Doubt !! ~Always Aloha~

  • thanks, im half korean half american too. I dont care what other people say, as long as i try my best, anyone cen be best of both worlds^^. All im saying is just to be your best, try your hardest, and success with just come following you. Then what will the people say? sorry for being mean??HAHA laugh in thier faces, thier being sorry. Come on, what other people say doesnt matter, just who you are!! KEEP IT UP!!!

  • I know what he's feeling...I am half korean half white aswell...U don't knw where u belong...My ex husband use to say to me i'm the best of both worlds xD

  • i think all of us have heard that one time or another. glad he makes you happy though.

  • we're divorced but ty hehe keep up with the half korean videos kamasahamnida

  • want my number?

    haha

    im half half as well

  • u half korean too? what is ur other half?

  • Thank you for this enlightening expression... Well done.

  • You're not alone.

    Keep up the awesome work.

  • I keep listening over and over and over again. Thank you so much for this.

  • Shut up, ignorant fool.

  • half white and half korean, HALF OF ANYTHING, is a person as whole as anyone. thank you for this, its just completely gorgeous. i'm half korean and half white, and although i haven't really gone through anything with race in that kind of way, but i understand that many others may have felt the feelings that have been felt in this video.

  • thank you very much, im glad you enjoyed it =)

  • your very welcome. :]

i adore listening to this, haha. xP

  • this is a beautiful peice!!!

  • you are... not that smart, as your username implies =)

  • this video is about half white half koreans, not koreans.

you said, "this makes koreans look bad..."

  • ...part of my life. so i can easily relate to your dilemma. even though your words might come across negative to people who cant relate, i hear the positive in between the words. as you get older, if not already, youll realize youre lucky as hell. understanding two cultures in & out. int'l businesses pay good money for people like that. visit korea some day, it has changed somewhat. not being so isolated and having a few local "mixed" celebrities, it eased up a lot.

  • being half korean myself, i gotta say though its a whole lot easier growing up in the states than it is in korea. ive lived in korea for 10 years and the rest of my 27 years in the states & europe. in the states, mixed people are quite a common sight (depending on what part of the states youre in). however in korea, only less than 1% is not 100% korean. in korea, there are only koreans, as stupid as it might sound, but you really notice it if youre "not korean". growing up racism was a daily...

  • real talk! that was twice as nice.

    went thru the same shit...

  • This is very good man. It sucks that people still can't see past race - it shouldn't make a difference.

  • i agree ...all i'm sayin is that you and i may know that you are who you are now.....but when your a kid (kid's can be cruel to each other) you don't know this and are trying to fit in but if you can't or don't feel it...or don't have the time because your constantly moving..etc... then it can potentially be very damaging to someone especially when your at that age when your developing/finding out your own sense of "who you are"

  • As for me, if you're half Japanese, you're Japanese. If you're half American, you're American. I mean, it's as if you'd put a grain of sugar in a pile of salt. You might want to say ''I'm eating salt, not sugar'' but no matter what, there's still sugar in there. But why does it matter? Being Japanese, American, Korean, Mexican, that won't make you someone better or different. You're who you are.

  • CONT'd from below....not being able to fit in and no one to relate to...always looking for connections but finding none ... almost always asking myself ..who am i? sometimes i look at these people who have lived in the same spot for all their lives and grew up with friends since elementary school....we moved about every 2 years so i never got attached to anything ....still don't assign value to much...don't know how to not do that...

  • Is it really hard to be half asian and half american? I have 1 year old daughter who is half Mongolian and half caucasion. should I worry about her future? It's very hard what to think. Is it really that hard?

  • I can't speak for anyone else. I guess the first thing is to at least be aware that the difficulties can be there. race doesn't matter...you can be half black and if you don't connect or grow up and feel comfortable in your own skin or have friends to start to learn about relationships and establish connections...every situation is different...you gotta remember i grew up as an ARMY brat moving around every 2 years...my coping mechanism was to disconnect and not be emotional

  • There will always be people who think they know who she is by looking at her face. Smart people start there but continue on to look into her heart. Teach her that the heart gives a truer image than the face and she'll be fine. Eventually. :o)

  • Thank you.

  • truly touching....my dad met my mother while he was in the army and stationed in south korea....you speak the truth man...after getting out of the army my parents moved back to W. Virginia where his family is from ....talk about isolation and being picked on getting called "gook" and "chink" as a kid....not even knowing what that meant at that age (elementary)...not being accepted as just a human being...not "fitting in" and being the only non-white person (excluding my mom and brother).........

  • y'know, and I am NOT negating your experience-do not get me wrong, but I felt the same way and I'm a white chick in a mostly white area. March to your own drum and never be the one who disses but only accepts, even the ones that don't accept you. Really, that's the teaching of Jesus in short form.

  • amazing.

  • Hey man, I'm half Chinese, half Native American and I just wanted to let you know that your video explained exactly how I feel when Chinese people or Native American people do not accept me as being apart of the culture. Really moving stuff man, keep up the good work!

  • i'm gonna post this on my asian rap blog!

  • Be at where you are comfortable to be at but remember that you are always welcomed to come to Korea.

  • that was moving

  • I wish all Koreans could understand this. Judge a person by the content of their character not the color of their skin.... PERIOD.

  • as a HALF KOREAN , i appreciate your words and understand. i was once referred to by a full korean as 'diluted'. i know, i have the best of both worlds. my mom who is korean said that she knows that they are jealous because we are an extension of them being able to live as a caucasian. being half does not make us diluted, only more mentally powerful. like i tell everyone, i am 200% korean and white. email me. i'd like to know where your from

  • didn't know that calling someone "half" was that insulting or you know what i mean... i guess it sucks to be called that all your life. i personally think that it's cool to be of both race. but what do i know... anyways, don't be discouraged! you can be whatever you want to be!

  • i'm half korean half white too!

  • gesekkiya//

    This man isn't from Korea.

  • This brought tears to my eyes. I have felt what you are feeling, as my nationality is the same as yours. It's deep hearing the words from someone else. Wow, what a wonderful video. Thank you. As an adult now now I do have to say I am proud and appreciate being "different". You will too.

  • Hey man I wrote down your words to this and recited this in front of a bunch of people at DePaul University and I got a lot of great feedback. Thanks bro and continue doing your thing man.

  • hey bro, come to Korea and live together!!!

you're proud of being a half of Korean blood you have. even if you have Korean blood of 1% whatever you got it, we all welcome :) that's my majority point of view

  • thanks bro, i would LOVE to move to Korea some day, especially since US isnt looking too good right now =P, thanks for the love

  • I'm dismayed that its an issue to be half anything in USA. bbarfield7-wait til you move out to a big cosmopolitan city. It will be a non issue. You will be proud to be different. High School can be difficult because kids are so insecure and unless brought up correctly, kids hide their insecurity by closing ranks and pointing out so called "faults". I am a 100% Korean but grew up in USA. My husband is white. So my kids are half too. But we lived in Chicago, NYC and now overseas in London...

  • ...(cont'd) and in London, there are so many half Asian, half white children that you can't even count them all. Mixed raced kids here are so common and its the future as the world becomes more and more global. Having lived most of my adult life in cosmopolitan cities, I forget how provincial rest of America can be. Don't let it get you down. I grew up in very small town in Ohio. Be proud!

  • thank you for you comment. i know the tone of this video is quite negative, but let me assure that i am more than proud to be half asian. That may have been more apparent had the last line of the piece not been cut out, " the whole is greater than the sum of all parts." I am from St' Louis, which isnt exactly cosmopolitan, but it is quite diverse. But I greatly appreciate your encouragement.

  • I really hope you continue to write and make more videos, this was beyond excellent (and by the way, I love how you used Sigur Ros in the background...really set the mood in an even more dramatic tone)

  • Eastern and western blood - perhaps it's idealistic since so many white americans are seeking after eastern philosophy and asians seeking after western science. Until yo

  • "Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired, and success achieved."

    -Helen Keller

Though is completely understandable you want to limit the hardships in your children's life, protect them from one is only going to open another and ultimately is unfair you.

  • Hey buddy, I'm sorry you felt excluded by both races. I have many bi-racial friends and I know how difficult it can be, but the truth of it is that you have the best of both worlds. You should think that way and also surround yourself with openminded people.

You should come live in California (unless you're already here..) mixed people are probably one of the most embraced people in Cali.

  • Pls be pround to be koreanamerican...yôu look great!

  • i don't think it's about his looks.

he's not trying to say that he wants to feel proud of being a korean american. he wants to be limited as a half korean or a half american. he just wants to be who he is, not what he is.

  • "he doesn't wants to be limited" was what i was trying to say XD

  • I think so...

  • not all koreans eat dogs. not only asian countries eat dogs sometimes, european countries do too. like austrailia and russia. btw ppl eat dogs just because. i think its sick, but you shouldn't go around saying "fuck all korean gooks" all korean ppl don't eat dogs, most of them actually don't.

  • yeah, i appreciate the back up, every now and then i get people who say random ignorant things... if only the internet was limited to educated people =) then again, I'm not sure it would be as interesting without them.

  • There are some people who discriminate against Asians in America--be it Chinese, Japanese, or Korean.

  • Actually, pigs are the most intelligent animal you can own as a pet. So by YOUR logic everyone but Hindus and Muslims and vegetarian/vegans are the fucked ones.

Way be ignorant and fail at logic.

  • Way to fail at reading comprehension.READ IT AGAIN SLOWLY

There is so much wrong w/ your comment I'll stick to just this.

"So by YOUR logic everyone but Hindus and Muslims and vegetarian/vegans are the fucked ones."- ME

I'm talking about people who DON'T EAT PORK.

You also fail at making sentences and sense.

If you haven't picked up what I am trying to say: YOU'RE A FUCKING RETARD

  • Wow

It's straight from real&straight up-not all dressed up&preoccupied with looking good/please everyone. It's just straight from, well, U & I think that really comes across&maybe that's why ppl like this.

Don't u dare to unload this video tho,but if ya do,until it does, it will stay as my profile video.

    Cheers&Good luck with ur talent!

    = )

  • Hypnotic

  • that was amazingly written and "recited" :)

    good job

  • Wow, that was amazing.

That touched me deep down. Being "half" Korean and half white, this really touched me.

  • Don't listen to other losers and be who you are cos, you are beautiful person. Peace! my korean brother...

  • I don't know who the hell you are but you should perform this at MAASU LR 2008!=P

  • Are you at 90% now? haha

  • fuckin beautiful poem, love it.

    nice work

  • beautiful way of expressing your feelings!

  • This is such a touching poem. You're extremely talented, and handsome. I'm 1/2 korean, white and native american. This poem means something to me. I also think some "full" asian-americans can identify with this.

  • thank you so much...

  • hahahahah Barry Barfield?!?!?! WOW my name is Barry and i am half korean!!!! WTF are the coincidences?!!?!??! lol. i dont feel as weird as i used to anymore.

although i do like deathmetal. And the asian community at my former HS accepted me as asian. despide my differences :)

  • : D Its how I feel sometimes...Thank you. It makes me feel not alone.

  • amen lol i hate being half korean i wish i was just full

  • I've been half Korean/half white for 39 years. My name is really Elvis. Fortunately, my experience has been mostly positive. I was blessed with good looks, personality, and diverse and proper upbringing. I've never had problems with attracting the opposite sex or friends of any sex or race for that matter. Besides, if i was all white or all Korean, I definately, would not be as good looking. I especially wouldn't be Me!! Thank God I'm half Korean and Half White!! Life is good! ty mom and dad

  • i totally agree,, and thats a shout out to my parents! tnx! =P

  • I'm White (Irish) and Korean 한국어 :D

  • And about happas, I saw a lot of them who have complexity for being a happa and despise their Korean heritage rather than the opposite. And I notice by their English that they try harder to speak better English than average Americans because of that complexity LOL...

  • What an ignorant comment.

Try not to sound so racist and misogynistic.

    It makes you look stupid.
